Thurman has one of the most boring fighting styles in the sport, and so it's hard to imagine us getting lucky enough to see enough action to where there could possibly be a KO. He is going to circle the ring nonstop, fire off a one-two here and there, and just generally put us all to sleep for 12 rounds, unless Errol can catch up to him.
Unfortunately 9 times out of 10 things play out exactly the way that the promoters want them to, and in this case I don't think Broner is the one who is supposed to win here. I think Haymon and co. are fed up with his antics and are sacrificing him as a "name" for Mikey's resume. I like both guys and am hoping for fireworks, but my instincts are telling me Mikey will dominate :/.
Posts like these now, on fight night will turn to "Broner is bigger than I thought". Broner is different than Zlaticanin, Juanma, Martinez, Burgos. Broner would KO all those guys with ease too at 130-135. Mikey may not even be as hard for Broner as Maidana, Porter, or Grandados. Yes, Granados, is a big, tough JWW who at worst has lost MD's in his career.
I WANT Mikey to win, I prefer him to win, he's the more serious boxer, he's better P4P, he's more skilled. But this is a legit fight. I think those who are saying this will be easy are underestimating Broner.
I'm hoping so! I would like to see Broner get a win here.
Algieri is a more credible name opponent, but the thing is styles make fights and we all know that stylistically Algieri is an absolute cakewalk for Khan. both fights are horrible mismatches, so I voted the third option. the thing is, I think Brook actually wanted to fight Khan next, whereas Khan is on that Haymon schedule of gimme after gimme until he sees if Floyd will pick him.
Damn, they're also moving Vasquez-Fortuna from NBC to this spike card now.
damn, you're right. that's a fight i definitely want to see; kinda miffed i have to wait an extra week now :(. what becomes the co-feature for Degale/Dirrell?
Why are these 2 not facing each other??? It makes more sense
that's what I want to see too, but it's not likely Haymon will put it together anytime soon. i think these two are going to be the guys he milks the most as far as the free TV dates are concerned. so they'll both be protected pretty well. against each other would be a great, 50/50 kind of fight.
it's not really the unthinkable. to me this is somewhere between a 60/40 and 70/30 kind of fight. Geale is very much a live dog. He's not going to just stand still and let Cotto wail on him.
Golovkin and K2 Promotions are doing the best possible job they can do imo. It's not his fault that the best guys in his division don't want to fight him. The losers saying he needs to fight Andre Ward are just obviously desperate to see him lose, the same way Floyd-haters are desperate to see him in with Golovkin. Golovkin clearly wants to fight the best in his division, and even though he hasn't been able to get the lineal champion in the ring yet, he's continued to grow and grow and grow his fanbase. The guy's probably going to bring 12+ thousand into the Forum on Saturday to see him. And this is a guy from Kazakhstan that noone knew a few years ago.
There's always so much negativity aimed at anyone who is doing well. Human nature is truly pathetic.
This hardly ever means anything. Yeah he looks in great shape, but everyone was saying the same about John Molina before the Broner fight. I don't put much stock into it unless a guy shows up looking like Hulkquez.
i've been wrong before but i feel like Degale is going to win this one. then the world can start looking forward to the fight it craves more than any other: Groves/Degale 2 :lol1:
I don't like it when any fighter's fanbase becomes raving mad and completely biased in his favor no matter what. But the flipside of that is there are always the obsessive detractors too, so it goes both ways. I try to remain as objective as possible, even though naturally we can't help but cheer for certain guys here and there.
Thurman fans bug me most these days, because it seems like they cheer for him more for what he says outside of the ring than what he does inside it. He's fought only a couple legit welterweights and spent 3/4s of his last two fights circling the ring nonstop and putting everyone to sleep. But because he talks a lot and says he wants to fight everyone (hasn't proven it though), and because he has the high KO ratio his fans act like he's the Mike Tyson of welterweights and everyone is "ducking him."
i don't think ken porter likes AB too much. think about it, they have pretty much polar opposite personalities. hopefully it makes for some good trash talk in the buildup :0). i feel like this is a 50/50 kind of fight considering the catchweight & rehydration clause. without those stipulations i'd have it 60/40 for Porter, but Broner is a live dog either way.
That's not good :(. Walters/Lomachenko would sound better as a unification fight. It's still an amazing matchup, but I don't think Top Rank is too happy about this.
agree with the few posters who posted before me. Manny would be a heavy favorite in my eyes. Crawford was losing to Gamboa before his size and power advantage took over, and he was neck-and-neck with Dulorme until he landed the KO shot. He's good, but he's not the next big star. A year and a half ago guys were BOOING him when he was fighting on HBO, and I remember threads on here about him being boring and too safe.
Silver medal. /debate
really though, i like both guys but they are very different fighters stylistically speaking. Golovkin is a lot more calculated with his offense and hits harder. Ruslan is more of a swarmer.
garcia/peterson was a close fight that i thought peterson edged. mayweather/pacquiao was a 9-3 clear win for floyd that the judges scored very fairly. this will be clear to you if you watch the fight and score it objectively. i was rooting for manny too guys, but the truth is the truth.
Two guys who are much smaller than him and in a weight class lower. That's like me saying "Welp...Floyd destroys anyone at 135" uhhhhhhh DUHHHHH.
yet you want him to fight a guy in Andre Ward whose next fight is at 172. don't you see the hypocrisy in that?
i guess it's part of the fun that there are always fans and detractors of every fighter, but it's frustrating always seeing this sh*t on here. no fighter ever gets credit for their accomplishments without half the board trying to tear them down.
Golovkin walked into the ring at 170 tonight. That's a more equal matchup than wanting him to have a twenty pound advantage over Floyd, isn't it?
the difference is i'm not one of the guys saying that Floyd should have to fight Golovkin. i don't see the need to mix and match between divisions just because people desperately want to see certain guys lose. I want to see GGG fight Cotto because he's the WBC MIDDLEWEIGHT champion, and Canelo because Canelo fights at 155 (considered middleweight) and is an explosive offensive fighter. It's not because I want to see him destroy littler guys. I happen to like Canelo and Cotto just as much as I do GGG.
There are so many awful judges I can't remember them all. That Benevidez score is a disgrace. I just don't get why the same judges who make terrible mistakes keep getting used over and over again. Julie Lederman = awful too.
yep, the answer is definitely Khan if you want to see a competitive fight. Thurman is too slow to hang with Floyd. The problem is Khan would be even more insufferable if he could somehow find a way to win, so I'd rather he not even get a chance. I really don't even care who Floyd fights though. As much as I am a fan of his, there's nothing left for him to accomplish. 50-0 sounds nice, but who really cares what his next fight is going to be? Neither Khan nor Thurman is exciting.
i think Floyd even beats GGG if they fight (which they won't). too quick on his feet, controls range too well.
considering the two names this is a good matchup, but i still don't think it makes much sense. i thought Broner was campaigning at 140 now? isn't Shawn a BIG welterweight? plus these catchweight and rehydration clauses...wtf? even when Haymon puts two good fighters in together he finds a way to look stupid.
was the last time he fought against Brian Rose or w/e his name is? That was a mismatch. When he fought Vanes it was pretty competitive; think he even got dropped early. Ultimately he does seem like he's expecting the star treatment when he hasn't done enough to merit that. I wish he would have fought the Charlo guy because the Charlos are so f***ing boring, and maybe he could've taken at least one of them out of the spotlight for a while.
Thurman has some dumb fans to rival even Amir Khan's. Yesterday we established that Thurman isn't fighting until July because he's still recovering from the injury he suffered against Guerrero. How in the hell is Kell Brook "ducking" a guy who is literally unable to fight now? According to you probably every fighter is ducking Keith Thurman.
possible, but I think Khan is more marketable for that spot. Still, I can definitely see Al wanting both guys free just in case. Just think the whole "you better not duck me, thun" stuff is ridiculous. This guy has turned down fights himself, but no one ever turns that back on him. Maidana never "ducked" him. Thurman was relatively unknown at the time, and Chino got a more lucrative offer. Has nothing to do with being afraid of Thurman.
