how come no one is talking about the fact that we were all hearing it was going to be Thurman/Porter on June the 20th? There's a video on youtube of Thurman saying that he was offered to fight in June (presumably this date against Porter) but asked Al and his handlers to let him have a little more time off, maybe to return in July. Think he really isn't ready to fight in June, or was that decision made when he saw who the opponent was going to be?
word is Broner doesn't really want the Porter fight (can't blame him...not his weight class), but NBC is expecting a big fight for that date. And since Thurman said no, someone else has to fill the spot.
Go ahead Thurman fans...make your case.
I can remember a video with Kenny Porter (Shawn's dad/trainer) saying something to the effect that they've sparred Thurman countless times and if he doesn't want a fight they know exactly why... In other words they've worked him in sparring quite a few times... Who knows if it's true but not many people lie about sparring sessions as it's something that's easily verifiable as there's always a bunch of people in the gym. If someone was lying they would get shut down quick.
Al Haymon: Hey Floyd is about to retire this fall , after that his no good to me anymore let me put Thurman in there with Floyd , Have Thurman destroy Floyd I just made a new main eventer
Maidana would get to him at some point, he will make it a fire fight at some point. Keith either weathers the storm and wins a decision/possible stoppage but unlikely or he gets hurt, dropped and then he gets stopped or outworked. I'd make Thurman the fav 60/40, early rounds would be key, first 4 or 5 rounds and Maidana would probably have to hurt him early.
I can see Thurman dropping maidana, but i know Maidana can get up and actually fight even harder when he gets up, Thurman is untested in this regard, i don't know for sure if Thurman could get up and still win, or if would tire and get stopped. This would be a real test for him but we all can't share the same opinion, would be boring if we did.
fair prediction/assessment. for me when I think it over in my mind I'm seeing the movement of Thurman just being too much for Chino. I think he'd stink out the joint and win fairly easily. Maidana's always dangerous but Thurman will do what he thinks is best to win...become Run Time essentially. I see it more as an 80/20 fight.
Lol dan wtheck man. Thurman doesn't try to be something he isn't. Plus he doesn't duck anyone he wants all the top guys. How can you not like a guy like that?
I don't think Dan likes the hype some punchers get, he goes off on Golovkin and Kovalev too.
Thurman is quality imo, Porter is a tough style for him though.
I actually don't really agree. I feel like Thurman would use his legs and just circle around Maidana all night, picking him off in spots and potentially hurting him after frustrating the hell out of him. I do see the fight getting made, but I think of it as Al cashing Chino out now that he already used him as a Floyd opponent. It's time to build up the next. Styles make fights. Thurman and Khan is a 50/50 fight. Maidana and Khan rematch is a pretty even fight. Thurman Maidana isn't. Porter's athleticism will spell more trouble for Thurman than Maidana would.

Thurman isn't cleared, or at least wasn't cleared to start sparring until a certain point, the June date was never a realistic one.
the Maidana ducking Thurman debate has been debated far too long, we know he "ducked" but it made sense back then after a piss poor performance, plus the Karass fight got him more money (Thurman himself doesn't even consider it a duck, its all business as he calls it), if he ducks from now on its a bad move, i hope it happens at some point, maidana vs Thurman is guaranteed excitement.

Every situation isn't the same in boxing. At this point in Thurman's career, a Porter fight would be a step backwards. Had Porter beat Brook, then we could make a case for Thurman ducking him. But Thurman is in line for a bigger name after beating Guerrero

Chino ain't ducking Thurman he's enjoying the fruits of his labour. As for Thurman it's not because he MIGHT be injured, it's because he IS injured. I don't think he would get cleared to fight (I'm not a doctor) . I wonder if he's doing sparring?
Back to the grind today...give me 50 days and I***39;ll be prepared for anyone! #OneTime pic.twitter.com/SIW8NDWaAR— Keith Thurman Jr. (@keithfthurmanjr) May 11, 2015
He only got back to training today
He is a fraud being built up as something he isn't by the American public. First he totally ignores that Erislandy Lara offered to drop down and fight him and pretended he didn't hear a thing now he has a bruise. Big wow fighters are always bruised/cut/sore.
Reality is both guys are a problem for the overrated Contime so they'll swerve them and he will come back against another fighter who is stylistically of zero threat.
He is just a pretender, a good amateur being forced under everyones nose by the American media. There is nothing special about this guy, nothing.

There's nothing to defend. Thurman was medically suspended until June 6th and no contact at all until May 7th.

somewhere between 15-20 minutes in Shawn and Ken come on and talk about how the fight came about, and how he went through a few potential opponents before being told that Broner was likely the guy.
Just listened to that, they never said anything about being offered Thurman. Porter said first he thought it would be Bradley, then Thurman, he was just going by what the rumours were.
Honestly I highly doubt Thurman would turn down Porter, maybe it just wasn't on the table for him. But it's definitely a question that needs to be brought up to Keith.
Thurman is either still recovering from his eye injury or is going to fight TBE in September.
It's definitely option 2. He is probably fighting Mayweather in September.

lol @ 24 minutes in when Ken says he's concerned Broner might get locked up or ran over by an angry baby mama before the fight takes place
