Pacman would be ahead on point before being dropped while trading mid-rounds.Great fight but even pacman would need to be a lot more defensively-minded than he is at present. I could see Naz dropped once or twice however. For those who mentions guys who outboxed hamed (usually being KOed late), who has Pacman really outboxed?
Bowe would have decisioned Lennox when Bowe was in his prime (ie around the time of first holyfield fight), but IMO Lennox at his best had too much of everything for prime Bowe - probably a mid to late KO.
Golota should beat up Brewster, but credit to Lamon - the guy is short on talent but he has brass balls. The same cannot yet be said of Golota; hence, I would never bet on the foul pole. That said, I'll be cheering him on regardless....
The key to a Toney victory here IMO is his ability to find space to throw on the inside; short hooks and uppercuts when Ruiz starts to hug and grapple. Ruiz will then start to bitch and moan a la the Jones fight and Toney will come away with a decision...still haven't see Toney take a HW punch yet however, but even though Ruiz has a fast enough right, I don't see it landing flush too often against Toney...
have u lost ur mind?
wat u mean boxing has nuthin to do with street fighting?
boxing is close to street fighting becoz of normal ppl only punching and boxing is a punching sport. fighters dat run around wudnt be 2 effective in the streets but still alot better then the average man and boxers who are the hard hitters wud demolish any1 on the street
Think about it. Any contest where I would prefer to have Arturo Gatti on my side than Pernell Whitaker has very little to do with boxing. It's no coincidence that boxers have not enjoyed a huge degree of success in other combat sports; what you want in a street fight from a boxer is a tough guy with plenty of heart and meanness who can fight dirty
Morales could probably take some of the 135 contenders, he needs to stay away from Corrales and Castillo however. Hell, he is still not the man at 130.
Streetfighting has almost nothing to do with boxing so I would take guys with ability to take punishment and/or a mean streak:
mayorga
casamayor
tyson (off meds)
vitali (I just imagine it would ne be smart to piss him off)
morales
This is a good fight; Taylor needs to take him on if he's to construct any legacy at MW, no real harm if he loses to the old master. I say he takes a close decision.
Trouble with Wlad is that his list of victims is pretty impressive in the context of today's division...however, none of it has happened lately....I think he's damaged goods, irreparable, and that Williamson win only delays the inevitable (ie another KO loss). The big guy has a ton of heart but no chin and poor stamina.
If he can regain a fraction of the same composure he used to have, he could still beat Byrd again, Brewster in a rematch, probably Toney, Golota...basically any small, mentally fragile or non-punching HW...
I can't see how you would regard the Abdullaev vs Cotto amateur bout controversial..Abdullaev racked up the points earlier and despite Cotto rallying mid to late, he couldnt quite close the points difference. Thats not controversial, its just close. Besides, it was man and boy in that ring, Cotto did well.
I'd probably choose the 80s compared with today's crop. Generally, there was a sounder knowldge of the fundamentals; however, on a head-to-head matchup, you would have some pretty exciting fights and its a lot closer...
Savon was certainly well schooled though he would be a little undersized compared to Vitaly et al...if his chin was bonafide in the pro ranks, it would certainly have been very interesting..
Never understood my Ikeke hasn't been moved along faster. He's a freak 6'4 I believe. He looked good against Primera showing good movement and defensive skills. I think he beats Echols and should move on to fight Sturm. I think that would b a very interesting fight
Ikeke, for all his size, is more awkward than powerful. He is certainly not a big puncher, and sometimes looks like a giraffe on roller skates - all gangly and ungraceful. But he is undeniably dangerous; I would keep Sturm away from him however, Sturm is too experienced - I could see him confusing Kingsley en route to a decision..
A tough decision for Hopkins (against Soliman) but at least Sam won't be as tentative as Eastman was (what a disappointment that was!)....I'm not fussed about seeing this however; Taylor needs to take the Hopkins fight before the old man retires IMO, or his subsequent achievements will be tarnished...
