I think so , the heavyweight division sucks . Biggs in his prime was a far more gifted fighter than any of the thrash around today . Biggs was called an ali clone early in his career, and while he wasent quite that biggs was only second to ali in lateral movement . In his fight against a prime tyson he started very good moving very well jabbing tyson keeping tyson at bay , but in the second round tyson broke him down with his power .I think that version of biggs whips holyfield and lewis , lewis dosent have biggs boxing skill to outbox him and holyfield dosent have tysons power to break biggs down .
Biggs would be champion today, based on the talent. However, due to his lack of power and heart, would probably lose in his first defense.Drugs robbed him of any chance he had to be a good fighter.
true, he had no power and is to weak and also didnt had heart enough. he was scared to died when he fight tyson. he had good feet movement and long jab thats is not enough.
i think some of you guys might be getting confused here, we are talking about tyrell biggs, not snannon briggs tyrell big was not big, he is much smaller than lewis
I'm in the UK dude, so i didnt see much of Biggs as an Amateur. Sorry! He was in the Olympics wasnt he? But my recolection back that far is hazy.
He fought lennox lewis in the 1984 olympics, he won a points decision on the way to winning gold.
Lewis was 18 and skinny and biggs 24 and physically much bigger, lewis had some good moments and hurt him but biggs was an ali style dancer so was difficult to hit, anyway lewis destroyed him in 3 rds in 1991.
Thats an interesting question. Biggs was defintely a very good boxer, but he wasn't a very big guy nor was he a big puncher. He would beat Brewster easy, he would beat Ruiz if Ruiz wasn't allowed to hold constantly, he would get destroyed by Vitali, and I think that a fight with Byrd would a highly intersting fight. Both have good skills, I see a close fight but Byrd winning on points.
He was a big guy, he was 6 ft 6" 230 pounds, his style was to jab and dance like ali thats why he wasnt heavier.
Come on guys biggs would blitz this division, he gave prime tyson hell in the first round and won it and holyfield and lewis beat biggs when he was a cocaine addict and was shot but the biggs who fought tyson boxes holyfield and lewis ears off .
He may have beat the Lamon Brusters of the this world i guess but he`d have to be matched carefully. He could be protected enough by say a Don King and then got a Ruiz fight or something. He would have had a chance of winning. It all depends on whom he fought and when!
......I don't think the guy had the mindset or heart to be a dominant heavy.

Briggs was big though. He was 6'5" which made his mobility all the more freakish. Still, he was not a great fighter by any stretch of the imagination. He's a great example of why talent and athleticism aren't enough to win at the top level of boxing.

Bit outta shape though wasnt he? But it was a bit cruel to call him a joke. I just remember it being a shock, Biggs should've been a class above.
i think biggs's mistake was to turn pro
Thanks for evoking a great memory i'd long forgotten. Tyson talking about the 'whimpering' sounds. Class!
Didnt one of Britains biggest heavyweight joke's, namely Gary Mason, knock him out? A fight Biggs should never have lost!
i know maon wasn't great, but i wouldn't call him a joke, it still took a decent fighter to beat biggs

no i think he would still be beaten by most of the fighters of today, he was exposed a few times, he's just one of the many fighters who never made it big in the pros, he's not the first and he won't be the last
i think holyfield and lewis beat biggs, without to much trouble, and tyson didn't really had to break biggs down he said he could KO him in the 3 but he didn't because he wanted biggs to remember that night for a long time. i think fighters of today, i think he beats ruiz, tough call between him and byrd haven't seen enough of biggs to really call that fight, but if i had to pick i'd pick byrd, and i think vitaly beats biggs.

.....Sorry, but my foremost memory of Biggs is Tyson talking about him making "woman jestures" in the ring. Tyson was trying to explain Biggs Whining everytime he connected hard. It was some funny shit that I'm sure you remember. Tyson even made the the whinning sounds to try and explain to the announcers what he was talking about. It made he and Biggs look pathetic and my brother and I laughed so hard we fell on the floor and couldn't get up for a good five minutes.
