If Wlad is knocked out again in his next fight vs Sergei Liakhovich or loses a decision, are his days as a title contender over. At what point does everybody think he will never get another title shot.
I apoligise if i offended you. But the thread was relating to when Wlad wil stop being an attraction due to the loses he is suffering and the ones that are likely to come. My point is that Wlad has held and title so he has still potential at 28 yrs old and that relating to the Cooney - Holmes clash, he can be sold over the spectrum of fans because he has an unusally appeal, a white, world class heavyweight!
I gotcha. I disagree, but I got ya. I think people like watching him cuz they know he's damaged goods. They know when they're watching that there's just as much chance that he'll topple over as win.
Look, I see what you're saying, kinda, but it bothers me that people can't just let it go. It bothers me too that white fighters like myself are constantly derided because of a precedent set years ago that we had nothing to do with. It's bull shit. Just let it go, dammit.

It is well docummented that the Gerry Cooney Vs Larry Holmes fight was race issue through and through. My point wasn`t a racial slur but a fact! Wlad, being white, does sell tickets.
Oh I see. So it's his complexion that sells tickets, not the fact that he could fight. That's why guys like Rob Calloway are such big stars, is it? You're dreaming, man. The Cooney-Holmes fight had racial overtones because of Don King. It's that simple.

When Wlads skin color changes black. Wlad is a white hope and he feeds off this meal ticket. At the first when he was beatin Byrd, Botha etc..it looked like he was good enough to accomplish something but i think even at his young age he is a shot and depleted fighter. Any world class puncher should be favored against him!
Unsportsmanlike conduct. Lemme ask, what is it that ensures Mike Tyson will get another shot at a title? What got him his fight with Lewis in 2002? Who had he beaten? And who the fuck do you think you're kidding? Do you really believe this is about race, or do you just tell yourself that so you can sleep easy when you collect your foodstamps?
At what point does everybody think he will never get another title shot.

They have used Sdunek as well as other trainers. For the Johnson fight Vitali was training with Roach and Szdunek.
What's your opinion of Szdunek? I think he is good for Vitali, don't think he is good for Wlad however. I don't think Steward is good for Wlad either.
Who did Vitali have as his trainer against Johnson? I thought it was Szdunek? (Did I spell that right). I don't recall anyone else training Vitali during that fight.
As far as the criticism goes in the Mercer fight, to me that's baloney. Mercer was one of the best jabbers in the game. You are bound to get tagged by him a few times. I think that is why Wlad lost to Sanders because switching trainers back and forth does not help one bit. Just look at Tyson since he left Rooney.

I would just like to say that Emanuel Steward is just like a super bowl ring. Everybody thinks they want one because the best guys always have it, but once you got it, that shit is too flashy and it kind of hurts your hand, and its heavy, so eventually you just put him in a drawer and never listen to the rediculous shit he says anyway.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK!
I love the SB ring analogy, you hit the nail on the head my friend!
Steward USED to be a great trainer, now he's just finally making some $ off of his name recognition from his work w/ Lennox
Hmmmm, yeah, I remember Sanders getting Vit's chin flush in the first...
He hit Vitali flush in the chin a few times in that fight, the difference was Vitali knew how to handle it and defend himself properly.
I don't know for certain, but if isn't the Klitschkos acting idiotic with dismissing trainers after they just have really great fights (Wlad vs. Mercer and Vitali vs. Johnson), there was some criticism of Wlad taking too many jabs during that fight. And I don't really see why that was such a big deal seeing as how much Wlad was dominating the fight, Mercer has a good jab, and I really only counted Mercer landing one power shot upstairs all night.

Sanders and Williams, Oquendo and McCline are all out. But Oquendo and McCline both have scheduled good tests in the near future, whereas Sanders and Williams just look through. Barrett deserves to be ranked in the top ten because of a long string of wins over decent opposition, interrupted by a competitive loss to a top-fifteen type fighter. Rahman deserves to be there because he's a former Champ, and he looked great knocking out a guy who pushed the guy who knocked Wlad out. Golota deserves it because the Ruiz fight was controversial. Anyway, my point is (and it's taken me a while to get here) Wlad, in my mind, is in the same group as the first four I mentioned, i.e., those who need to come back. The other four you named, though, are fairly ranked contenders, each of whom deserves a shot at the title soon.
Understood, But the first four you mentioned already had their title shots, which is what my point was to begin with. Wlad, being a former champ as well belongs in the same group and deseves a shot just as much as all of them.
Derryl williamson only really got there when Wlad tripped. Brewster only got there one time. Sandars only needed to get there one time and then Wlad didn't know what was happening, so really his chin doesn't get it that much.
And Sanders and Williamson both got to Vitali a few times. Especially round 3 of the Sanders fight.
I think the big difference is that people fighting Vitali are scared and people fighting Wlad have hope now.,

He should have stuck with Tommy Brooks because his fight against Mercer was Wlad at his very best. He took Mercer's punches and returned with his very own and TKO'd Mercer for the first time in Mercer's career. Hey Neuraxis do you know why Wlad left Tommy Brooks?

All this talk sort of makes me wish we saw Lewis vs Wlad (before Wlad lost to Sanders). Oh well, sounds like he has the potential to regain his former self but probably won't.
he's a great boxer, even better than Vitali, but you need to have a decent chin to be a great heavyweight and he hasn't got one, but i do still think he can win a lot more fights through his boxing ability alone.
Any fighter can be knocked out. The odds are 99% will eventually get knocked out. It's the nature of the sport. Wladimir has only been literally knocked out once by Corrie Sanders. (Corner stopped the fight against Purrity, ref tripped Wladimir between rounds and stopped the fight against Brewster).
The question "If Wlad is knocked out again in his next fight vs Sergei Liakhovich or loses a decision, are his days as a title contender over?" is purely hypothetical. There are too many variables to consider making it difficult to give a just and intelligent answer.
I'm not saying Wladimir will win, I don't like to make predictions. As we all know, anything can happen in boxing. But I will say it doesn't look good for Serguei.
Wlad does have unanswered questions about him, but he has already earned the right to be considered a contender unlike some recent title contenders.
The question I would ask is who deserves a shot more, McCline, Golota, Oquendo, Rahman, Williams, Sanders, Barrett,or Wladimir? IMO - He belongs in that group just as much if not more than the rest of them.

Reggie Strickland
A matter of pure aesthetics I suppose. People say Holyfield should retire....I say Strickland should.
I like Wlad, and he should be allowed to fight regardless; in the spirit of being fair to those who actually deserve it.
I realize he is not in title contention, but according to his statements on "Real Sports", he seems to think he is.
Perception is reality, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
I do not appreciate 272 losses however. That is too much, and consitutes placing himself in grave danger.
Wlad is a big strong young guy. He is fine.
Very nice post.
