some of the reasons refs stop fights is because:
1. the fighter is taking too much punishment.
2. the fighter is not intelligently defending himself.
3. the fighter is injured in such a way that it greatly hinders his ability to continue the fight.
4. the fighter quits.
5. the fighter is unresponsive to the ref's questions or commands.
the only one that applies is the 5th one and taylor didnt respond because lou duva (his trainer) jumped on the ring apron and started shouting at the ref and distracted taylor from responding.
meldrick taylor did not need to be protected any longer. there was 2 seconds left in the fight, chavez would not have even had the time to reach taylor to land another punch. taylor was not in any sort of danger if the fight was not stopped.
it was a horrible stoppage. i think steele saw that taylor wasnt responding and was taking a lot of punishment and stopped the fight but im sure he just forgot that it was the last round of the fight.
(waiting for the inevitable honking of the race card players)
theres no way you can say ANYTHING in this country anymore without some1 being offended.
if somebody calls you a racist, you should almost take it as a compliment.... cuz it shows that somebody's paying attention.
I thought Pavlik won probably 4 to 2 going into the seventh. Now that HBO said Taylor was ahead big on all three cards they where looking to screw PAvlik over.
exactly what i thought.
that consistently ranks him in the top 10 of all-time greats p4p? Why is it that despite losses to Hagler, Hearns and Leonard ("no mas" debacle), he is rated way ahead of these greatest fighters to ever defeat him? Why is this man a so-called "legend?"
i was thinking about this last night but in a different way. you could say that hagler, leonard, and duran all belong in the top 10 p4p. but why not hearns?
IMO, he won the leonard rematch, he beat benitez (who beat duran), he destroyed duran in a way no1 else could possibly imagine, and his right hand is probly the best in welterweight history.
duran's career wasnt the same after he left lightweight. hearns career wasnt the same after he left welterweight. but you cannot deny that hearns accomplished more than duran. so why is duran held in higher regard than the man who destroyed him and whos accomplishments eclipse his own?
if the fighter's got a contagious personality, the more people will watch him (and see what his style is). if the guys an asshole, the less people will want to see him (like mayweather).
styles are really what make a fighter likable. i dont know of too many fighters that are fun to watch but are just detestable outside the ring. there are plenty of fighters who are boring to watch and are complete jerkoffs.
a fighter's personality affects his marketability.
where the hell did all these ruiz huggers come from? the boxing world finally gets a break from the bum for 11 months and now that hes back ppl are singing his praises, saying he got robbed against valuev, and how he'll get another title.
ruiz is a perfect example of what don king does for you: lots of gifts that you dont deserve.
oh HELL no. like said a while ago. greatness comes from what you contribute to your profession (in this case boxing). hamed fucked around, made an ass of himself, fought a bunch of nobodies, collected a few belts, and got his ass handed to him by the only real fighter he fought in MAB.
being a jackass, fighting nobodies, and getting beaten by a legend does not earn you an induction to the HOF.
jesus, how can anyone possibly think that hamed's name should be placed next to names like robinson, hagler, marciano, louis, ali, frazier, and foreman?
juan diaz. hes been fighting all the other champions and hes the one whos been collecting the belts. casamayor hasnt done shit. he hasnt fought in over a year and his next fight is in november against some guy named cruz (the guy david diaz TKOd for his title).
being a champion doesnt mean you can rest on your laurels while everyone else does what a champion is supposed to do.
anybody whos followed boxing long enough knows that in big fights like this (or even in boxing period) anything can happen.
if the unknown buster douglas can knock out the invincible mike tyson then that means that upsets can happen anywhere, any time, to anybody.
kessler has a chance, regardless of how big or small it might be. he has youth, strength, durability, desire, conditioning, speed, technique, and being a unified champion is a good way of saying hes legit. calzaghe has speed, experience, durability, superb conditioning, technique, a hometown advantage, and im sure he still has something he wants to prove.
im going with my gut in saying that calzaghe's gonna win a decision. not as lopsided as the lacy win, but i think he'll get a clear decision. but if anyone thinks kessler doesnt have a chance, then they need to watch the douglas/tyson fight.
anybody can be beaten.
Miguel Cotto has god awful defense and he likes to block punches with his face. We all know Cotto has a big heart, but he is very chinny. Miguel Cotto is like a reincarnation of Jake LaMotta with an average chin and that's not a good thing. Malignaggi(a lesser opponent than Mosley) was able to land pillow punch combinations at will and he even staggered Cotto. Can you imagine what's going to happen when a hard puncher like Mosley lands combinations at will on Cotto. I like Cotto, but with his Jake LaMotta type style and terrible defense he is gonna get exposed badly and Shane Mosley is the guy to expose him. The Puerto Rican fans at MSG are gonna be in for a big surprise, but I really won't be surprised at all.
with his excellent offense. mosley's an old fighter at 35. hell, luis collazo was able to land a few very noticable and eyebrow-raising punches on mosley's noggin. mosley CAN be hurt and cotto's an expert at hurting ppl. mosley still has a chance to win of course, but it think cotto's on the rise and mosley's on the fall.
Kessler Showed REAL Heart
*WARNING* THIS IS NOT A CALZAGHE BASHING THREAD
in the 12th round, kessler did something spectacular: he knew he was behind and he went for the knockout.
in today's world of phonies, quitters, and crude brawlers, we have no shortage of shutouts and boxing lessons. we've seen it a thousand times: a fighter takes a beating and gets outclassed for almost the entire fight and silently admits defeat as soon as he finds that his opponent is truely better than him. even though he has a chance to go for a knockout, he doesnt go for it. his only option for victory and he doesnt choose it.
this was not the case with mikkel kessler. going into the 12th round, he KNEW he was behind, he KNEW he was outclassed, he KNEW he needed a knockout, he KNEW it was his only chance of winning, and he KNEW that if he tried hard enough, it could happen. kessler went swinging for the fences, desperatly trying for the last second knockout victory. although he did not obtain his desired stoppage, he tried for it anyway and goddammit we should love him for that. that's something everyone can respect.
he was a good sport about it, he admitted defeat and admitted getting hurt, and was even proud enough to suggest a rematch. thats professionalism. thats true class. in a world of phonies, front runners, and paper tigers, mikkel kessler showed REAL heart, REAL desire.
im not taking anything away from calzaghe. with this win, he has cemented his claim as the true SMW champion, and he did it convincingly and he did it as a champion. joe calzaghe is undoubtedly the greatest SMW champion of all time.
calzaghe's made his mark, but kessler's showed something unique. he showed the true desire to win. props to both men. calzaghe made history and kessler never stopped trying to win. this was a great night for boxing.
im still confused about how miranda's chin is. in the abraham, green, and eastman fights, his chin wasnt very good. in the pavlik fight, he had a good chin with a lot of heart.
from what i've seen from pascal, his chin isnt that great. miranda could definatly stop him. but maybe pascal has enough speed and skill to outbox miranda and win the fight.
either miranda by TKO or pascal by UD or TKO.
That Was Unbe-fucking-lievable!!!! There Is No Valid Arguement That You Could Give To Justify That Sort Of Stupidity!!! That Was A Horrid, Ungodly, Performance By Casamayor And There Is No Way In Fucking Hell That Anyone Could've Given Him More Than 2 Rounds At Best!!!
That Was The Biggest Robbery I Have Ever Seen, Bar None!!! Absolutely Horrible Decision!!!!
This is bullshit.
Your muscles don't age. So there is no physical peak at all.
are you in 9th grade? did you even make it into high school? or did you just eat all the glue in 8th grade and decide that the "magical paste" gave you enough knowledge to say mr-know-it-all bullshit like this?
the human male body reaches is physical peak at age 30. after that, the body starts to deteriorate.
if muscles dont age, can you explain why a 30 year old man is typically stronger than an 80 year old man?
take ur stupid "magical paste" knowledge elsewhere in the world. it has no place here.
this fights not gonna happen. i dont care what boxingtalk or any other site says. tarver's a fuckin idiot, callin out a HW whos a mile past his prime and hasnt won since 2003.
So what makes you great is how you end? Really, there is no logic in that at all.
thats not what i said at all. after his fight with virgil hill, jones went on this 5 year stretch of fighting nobodies, bums, and never-has-beens. then he fights tarver, wins a close decision, then loses 3 consecutive fights to actually decent opponents.
when the time came around for him to have another big fight (the john the bum ruiz fight notwithstanding) he came up short. he faild to live up to expectations in 3 consecutive and humiliating fights.
as long as b-hops been around and as many fighters and hes faced, i have to say that the odds of taylor being the first person to KO hopkins are nothing to nothing.
Well maybe I'm the only one who's seen Calzaghe's early career.
maybe because ur the only person stupid enough to even want to watch calfaggy's early career.
Calzaghe displayed more punching power in his first 20 fights than Lacy did, if you don't believe me then watch them for yourself.
As for Ashira, he wasn't very good, but he was good enough to stop Lacy in the amateurs!
ur grasping at straws here with this amatures thing. get the fuck over it, faggot.
funny how ur the only one praising calfaggy's power and everyone else is saying how lacy fights like mike tyson (the 1988 mike tyson).
