Man this is a hard one, but I think with hardcore boxing fans, it would have to be Jones and barely.
Jones
Olympian (really a gold medalist)
Ring Mag Fighter of the Decade
Multi division champ
Heavyweight champ
Great speed, power, reflexes, etc.
Toney
Two time Ring Mag Fighter of the Year
Multidivision champ
Career "resurrection" against an Olympian in Jirov (gold medalist I think)
Heavyweight Champion
Has a good chance of become undisputed heavyweight champ
Hopkins
Great wins over DLH and Tito
Has the record for most defenses of the title
Extremely smart fighter, calculating
stop living in the past bozo.
aside from hill, mccallum, tarver, hopkins, and toney, who has jones beat that is so noteworthy, ur still willing to argue for their sake?
You don't know what you're talking about.
Go to boxrec and look up his resume. He's a LOCK for the Hall of fame. His competition was solid through out most of his career, and again, that's in addition to the titles in multi weight classes, the wins over Toney and Bernard, and the 10 uears of #4# supremacy.
You really are stupid you know that?
The more guys who held titles that are in that number, the better competition it reflects. Do you know who the other fighters are who've beaten that number of current or former title holders in the last generation? Delahoya and Holyfield.
The point is, he fought a lot of good and solid fighters through out his career.
You're saying you don't think that's true? Or are you just arguing because you're still upset you were exposed again in this thread?

whos ignorant now? i wasnt comparing him to jones.
beating a former champion doesnt mean shit. there are a billion former champions and saying that you beat 16 of them is like saying "i beat up 16 homeless guys".
granted, some of those former champions were legit contenders like hopkins, toney, mccallum, and hill. but calling the other guys former champions is degrading to real champions.
you put julio gonzales on the same stage as archie moore?

When added to the rest of his career, not very.
The fact you'd compare him to Jones Jr just adds to the list of ignorant things you've said tonight.

I'm off to bed with a smile on my face, knowing that as soon as Toney gets his hand raised against Rahman he surpasses the legacy of Roy Jones. :)
You wouldn't know anything about boxing if your read it on Fightnews.
Your inability to score a fight and the non sense you peddle speaks for itself.
Toney > Roy
Hopkins > Roy
bottom line. see the updated poll for proof, Bozo
Who's voting on these polls? You think that makes something gospel?
How many angry little kids like you voted on it?
Meaningless.
Get a new favorite fighter. Roy has made his last statement and it characterized his whole career: running from Tarver, dancing and shaking his ass, refusing to fight, and inability to take a punch
What a fitting end for a phoney fighter :D
There's a long list of GREAT fighters who had a poor end to their careers. That doesn't discredit what the accomplihsed.
Since you've been wathcing boxing for all of two years, it's no suprise that this would come as a shock to you.
He was fighting everyone in his weight class who would fight him in those years, unifying the major titles.
Before that he was a titlist at 160, and 168, after that at Heavyweight and then back at Lt Heavyweight again.
There was no 'could have been great'.
He was a great fighter. Bottom line.

tim witherspoon is a former champion. how fucking impressive is that?!

Carlos Maussa, Shannon Briggs, Carlos Baldomir
these are the names of some of boxing's former or current champions, lmao
he could have been the great one, but he spent 98-2002 fighting absolutely no one. four whole wasted years. Floyd Mayweather is the best fighter of this generation, and if you don't know that by now...wake up

The amount of time you spend trying to discredit Roy Jones (which is stupid in itself) speaks for itself.
Again, it's not an opinon, it's an agenda with you.
Where did I ever say Griffen and Hill were huge accomplishments?
I said winning titles from Middleweight to Heavyweight, beating 16 current or former champions, and going 10 rounds without losing more than a handfull of rounds is a HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT.

You're just another guy with another opinion. No different from anyone else here except you put yourself up on a pedestal which you have in no way earned. Your opinion is in no way, shape, or form better or more well-founded than that of EvilSaint's. He sees Roy get KO'ed twice in the last 3 fights and run away from Tarver, but you still see Roy knocking out Montell Griffin and Virgil Hill, HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENTS!!

i see you guys have some issues but to answer the question it has to be roy jones. you can make the arrguement for hopkins because of the ten years and 20 title defenses but he lost to roy jones. toney lost to roy jones and toney is really nothing speacial. but roy jones, he was the man. our generations sugar ray lenord. roy jones will be remembered because he was the great one.
