This is a question that's plagued me for a while. Why does a fighter's personality matter so much to fans and critics alike? Do we not watch boxing to see great fighters fight each other? How come everytime there's a discussion about any particular fighter, someone always has to bring up his personality and ramble about how much of a "dick" they are?
First of all, I don't think any fan is at liberty to comment on any fighter's particular personality traits unless they have met them in person before. Secondly, even if it's a figure as public as someone like Mayweather who has no problem boasting about his accomplishments and flaunting his wealth in public.
Still, fighters fight. And that's what we watch boxing for, to see great fights. Not bitch and moan about how X fighter said something you didn't agree with in an interview 2 years ago. Or what one rival fighter said about another rival fighter (like Barrera and Morales or Pacquiao) years ago.
Just a question.

I have to disagree with ya Bringer. Boxing to me is a sport that revolves around not only the in the ring performances of boxers but who they are, thats how a lot of fighters endear themselves to their fans how their fans relate to them. That Human aspect to me is very important. As far as a boxing fans right to comment on what a boxer does or says outside the ring, well thats just part of being in the public eye.
Steward that is
Oh that Manny, lol.
Yeah he seems really out of it. I guess thats what happens when you talk a shitload of grabage about a #1 ranked challenger fighting your guy only to have the challenger KO him.
I lost a lot of respect for Steward for that. I've been a Pavlik fan since '05 and a Steward fan for much longer, I figured a trainer as respected as him would at least give Pavlik some form of credit.
Is it just me or is Manny really humble and listless tonight?
I can't tell. Anytime I've ever seen Manny he's always been completely humble and graceful (with the exception of the loss against Morales). Wish I could say the same about his fans though..........
My mistake I meant I kept my eyes ON the tv, just thinking about it gets me distracted. LOL, tell your girl there are 6 days of the week she can do that but on satrday keep her mouth on some food or something.
Funny shit, she's finally learned how serious I take boxing though. I'm watching the stream now and she's just sitting there reading and keeping quiet. Although she did ask me what a southpaw was earlier, lol.
My girlfriend tried to suck my dick during Cotto/Judah and I got really pissed, lol.

Well know one thing, you aren't alone when it comes to that. When I was watching the world awaits my ex took the oppurtunity to try and distract me by wearing.............well wearing nothing. Needless to say I didn't take my eyes off the tv.

Must be the passion in me but I can never go out anywhere when a fight I want to see is on. I've turned down sex for a big fight before and I'm not ashamed to admit it, lol.

1. I don't need to know someone "personally" to make a judgment. If that were true I would have to refrain from judgment about all my favorite writers too.
2. Boxing is a human enterprise. It's something men (and sometimes women) do. The man goes in the ring and fights.
I don't think I have seen the board this slow before, I just came from work a little while ago so I decided to watch the fights and than hit the sac, I guess most decided to go out...

Because Boxers are not robots or dogs. They are human beings like you and I. Just as we are interested in the personalities of friends, coworkers and those around us, it is nice to know some background about the fighters we drool over.
We're not talking throwing chickens into a pit and letting them kill each other...these are people.

If that is the case the next one is on me:friday:
If you're buying, I'm drinking. Great avatar BTW. I'm always thankful that so many of the scene's regular posters have such great ass avatars. Really gives me something to break the monotony of hatred.
Stop drinking the fight is about to start and you want to actually remember what happened don't you?
Me, Addison and Oasis_Lad post in a persistent state of intocication, we like it that way, lol.
It's a question that needs to be asked. You're getting at the root of the blind love some people have for fighters, and at the blind hate.
I think it's a beatiful thing. :beerchug:
Fanboys, haters and nuthuggers alike should all ask themselves this valuable question. Cheers, Bringer.

You want to see an asshole get knocked out. It's just life. I cant bring myself to cheer for someone that runs their mouth constantly, great fighter or not.
if the fighter's got a contagious personality, the more people will watch him (and see what his style is). if the guys an asshole, the less people will want to see him (like mayweather).
styles are really what make a fighter likable. i dont know of too many fighters that are fun to watch but are just detestable outside the ring. there are plenty of fighters who are boring to watch and are complete jerkoffs.
a fighter's personality affects his marketability.
Well if it matters, I hold your opinion in high regard. And you know your opinion is worth the opinions of like 50 fanboys or nuthuggers. ;)

What do I think? Well, personally I could give a fuck.
But the reality is that large number of people care about a fighters personality.
In short; I agree. But I can only speak for myself..

Or crossdressing and having bi-sexual orgies. Sorry, I couldn't let this thread go past 1 page without even a small mention of that.
True enough. Let's not forget all the continuous talk of Juan Manuel Marquez being gay too.
