What flaws do you see? It's not a flaw to have been unable to figure out Calzaghe.
He doesn't have good movement, either lateral or straight back, which means a guy who's slick can get inside that stiff jab.
Other than that, he's the package.
Kessler's 12th round was amazing. He was tying to decapitate Joe. Any other fighter might have succumbed to Kessler's efforts, just not Joe. I was rooting for Kessler and am sad he lost, but if Joe moves up, Kessler will control 168 as long as he stays there.
I agree 100%. put on a great show, never backed down, kept fighting to the end. and he was even very cool about it in defeat, he even admitted he had been hurt in the fight. Most fighters NEVER admit when they're hurt. Kessler is one of the coolest guys in boxing after what I saw in this fight.
I dont doubt he would clear out 168 if Joe (hopefully) moves to 175. I see him vs. Bute in the future, great fight there. but I think he oughta beat up some guys before Bute, Bute could be a tough one. Throw him up against some one like Miranda or Inkin!
Look forward to seeing him fight in the future
Kessler is one of the best fighters in the sport, much better than I'd thought. Hopefully HBO will feed Taylor, Pavlik, and Miranda to him. I'd pick him to sweep that trio
Unfortunately sometimes we get threads where people try to give props to a fighter in a losing effort and it's half baked.. I can honestly say it was never more deserved in this case. Kessler fought the way a fighter should fight. He went for it.
Calzaghe is just too much for ANYONE.
I'd love to see Hopkins vs. Calzaghe. JUST to see who would win.
It could be ugly of course..
I would love to see Calzaghe pick apart Hopkins...that dirty bitch.
Yeah, to put it lightly; I was incredibly impressed by Kessler's heart and desire to win that fight and also how well spoken he was in the post fight interview...
Great fighter , great effort and excellent comments post fight not trying to blame anything for the loss but like a real man taking on the chin, ill be following his career from here onwards , i think he certainly won many fans
i didn't know too much about kessler before this fight, but this is what i gathered: he's an excellent fighter, a true warrior, and he is a true class act.. mikkel kessler is everything that's right for the sport of boxing, he is great for the sport, and i only wish him the best of luck in the future
Goddamn.. What a fighter!
I'm very proud of what he gave. Very proud.
I already had respect for him after the Andrade fight and he earned more from me tonight. I hope Calzaghe moves up to light heavy and Kessler comes back and cleans out super middle.
For me Kessler showed that he can by dynamic. He was fantastic pulling out more stops than people ever that he had in him. His uppercuts were sic, and he landed stuff in exhanges that were TELLING. As soon as Calzaghe tried use his signature flurry Kessler dropped a big right right down the middle. It was fucking brilliant. Mikkel totally took away Joe's flurry. TOTALLY.
Beating Joe Calzaghe is too much for a trained fighter.
Joe is a NATURAL with outrageous determination and toughness.
A lesser man would have folded at Kessler's knees.
Calzaghe won that fight on toughness as much as anything else.
The biggest things were that he has little to no head movement and he doesn't get his hands up after throwing combinations. He just sorta stood there and admired his work, while Calzaghe started throwing back.
Little too much of that.. True.

Kessler gained a lot of respect from everyone, but will he gain any knowledge from the fight? He has a LOT of flaws that need to be corrected for him to be dominant, but his head and heart are in the right place. Perhaps a different trainer would help cuz I didn't see him getting much useful advice from the corner, but of course we don't hear everthing.

all my boys said he was a nice guy. he admitted he had no hand problems after the loss. he also said that he was hurt and that joe was ahrd to hit and made him miss a lot which took a lot out of him. i mean joe has very fast hands for a smw, with decent head movement, but his main weapon is his feet. i've seen him move out of a lot of big blows, which make his oppoent tire so much. joe has great stamina and a chin aswell.
kessler is just a ncie guy. he admitted he lost fari and square. was funn when his promoter hyped him up and saying yeah you wills ee big fights from kessler next year!!!! then kessler had a small yeah lol. was funny.
Kessler is still dangerous IMO. Yea he lost, but he put up a good fight. The way he fought today, he probaly and most likely would've beat anyone in the division. Joe made him miss ALOT.
Good fight though. It was entertaining. Pure skill in the ring.
