I have to watch the fight again, so i could really focus in on the fight. But i thought Hopkins came in there, landed the more effective shots, and even hurt Joe twice with his jersey joe walcott shovel hooks. Calzaghe came forward, and threw a lot of ineffective slaps. Deep down inside i want a rematch but i know there wont be one. Hopkins if u retire, u retire a winner in my eyes.
espn.com, the assosiated press, and most ring side experts had it 114-113 hopkins, just like how i scored it, 6 rounds a piece with hopkins getting the 1 point edge from the knock down
Kellerman is going back to being an ass - he's not stupid, he knows Calzaghe won.
Brian Kenny felt the same way...i guess hes an ass too. Max is realizing tho, that theres more than 1 way to judge a fight
It wasn't even a big punch, it was a mediocre punch that caught Joe with his feet out of position so he stumbled back
i believe that happened in round 7?? i scored that round for calzaghe, even tho it was a good punch, calzaghe won that round.
Is this show on alot? Do they always talk about boxing?
its on 10am-1pm weekdays i believe, but no, only when theres big fights coming up, this is special b/c they never dedicate more than an hour to boxing calls.
I feel the same way. I had bernard 114 - 113. He won the 1st 3 rounds straight and got extra pt for the KD in the 1st. But Joe did make his own run in the 6-9. Couple of those rds were close but Joe was missing and slapping a lot and Bernard definitely landed the bigger shots and was much more precise. But he should have threw more punches and attcked at times instead of trying to counter all the time. But I can't be mad at 115 - 112 for Joe either since a couple of those rds were swing rds like 5 and I think 10 too. But I still had Bernard winning even though I'm the only 1 who did were I was watching.
thats how i scored it, 114 - 113 Hopkins
Disagree. Calzaghe's record speaks for itself. If he retires as undefeated champion, he will place higher than Hopkins on the ATG list....can't argue with the math. IMO Hopkins latter career performances have been rather dull and lackluster even though he is still competing at a high level. He should have retired after KOing DeLaHoya.
i guess rocky marciano ranks higher than joe louis?
If I recall, Joe was the one who low blowed Hopkins..technically Hopkins didn't do anything wrong, in the rule books it says...low blow = 5 min of recovery time, even if it didnt appear to be a hard low blow, the rule still applies
lol i didnt know being the champ since 97, 21 title defenses, recent win over 39-0 7 yrs younger kesseler would earn u a spot behind shane mosley and cotto
I hate when my fav boxers lose. I haven't felt this bad since Hopkins lost to Taylor first time around, even though im a Jermain fan too. Hopefully he looks at the tape, rebounds from this and uses it as a learning expierience. Congrats to Kelly he won, he showed so much heart getting up from that 2nd round assualt. I'd love to see Hopkins fight Pavlik if Pavik gets past JT in their rematch. Beat the guy who beat the guy u lost to twice is 2nd best to revenging ur loss, even though i thought Bernard won both fights.
I've never picked against him, and I'm not going to start now. I have to take Bernard Hopkins by UD. Calzaghe has to keep the tempo up 24/7 to have a chance against Hopkins. I've never seen a fighter who hasn't danced to BHOP's beat in the ring.
You can say you think prime Nard wins, because it's a hypothetical. What you can't honestly say is Nard had a better career than Joe. I think it's pretty wide in Joe's favor. More defenses, fought better guys his own size, and undefeated. Hopkins lost five fights and all his big wins except one were against smaller guys.
The only thing in Nard's favor is he's American, black, and fought longer on HBO.
im so fuckin sick of everyone saying hopkins fought smaller guys so his resume sucks...let me ask u a question, would you take the victories Marvin Hagler has away from Roberto Duran and Tommy Hearns? guys who were smaller than him? and guess what, Hagler couldnt even put Duran away, he had to go the full twelve. At least BHOP put his so called "crappy smaller" opponents away before the cards were read, jesus people need to watch what they say. O yeah Hopkins, at 41 yrs old went up TWO weight classes and dominated Antonio Tarver, who was seen as the best light heavyweight at that time, and please please do not pull the weight loss excuse.
I have to disagree with you, man. No offense.
After the fight, Hatton was saying how strong floyd was. That means that Floyd was stronger, faster, more skilled, more experienced, better conditioned, etc...
What advantage does Hatton actually have over Floyd?
none really...
I watched the first fight with taylor/hopkins and i really didnt see taylor land more than 2 or 3 clean shots in the entire fight. Taylor only won 4 or 5 rounds in my book b/c hopkins didn't throw anything, not b/c taylor beat him in the round, only b/c hopkins just didnt throw anything. The 2nd fight was different, and i wish i could see the taylor that fought hopkins the 2nd time around.
I think this is the perfect time to fight Mosley. Hes coming off a great win, and if he applies enough pressure should be able to bang mosley up, but i love Shane and if we could get the same Shane who fought against Vargas twice and Callazo, then it should be an entertaining fight.
