Honestly I'm a little surprised that Cotto is taking this fight so early. I did think his performance against Zab was good, but Mosley is in another class. Definitely a step up for Cotto.
Don't get me wrong I like Cotto, I like his style out of the ring, how he represents and I like that he comes to fight. I also think he has tremendous potential, I'm just thinking a little early yet.
Anyone think that maybe it's a bit early for him?
LOL, everyone down here loves boxing. All of us Florida guys hang out together, it's all family.
Who supplied you with beer? Underage drinkin, that would be a great article. "Boxer provided alcohol to minor" It would be like the Michael Vick ban, lol
Mosley depends on being the fastest gun, and against a standup guy like Vargas, he was going to eat him everyday of the week. Cotto is a smarter fighter than Vargas and has a lot of tricks to bust up smaller guys like Paulie and Judah. Mosley's style is just he throws flurries and uses his feet to go back and forth, which is where he can do damage. Then he moves the left or right and resets and does the same thing. I think Mosley would be in a very tough fight with Cotto, and Cotto's youth will carry him to the W.
Cotto I believe would be more competitive with Forrest than Mosley was, but who really can say they'd kick Wright's ass?
You make some good points. But I think Mosley is an underated counter puncher & he rolls punches pretty well. Collazo ate some hard counters in their fight which made him gunshy. I also think he'll have an easier time countering Cotto since there's going to be a big speed difference. Not to mention Mosley's a good body puncher himself. Mosley is a whole different fighter he's ever had to deal with.
I say this a good fight Cotto. He'll be stepping in the ring with smart, fast, and strong opponent. Those are the same credentials that Mayweather has. I believe that he feels that if he can beat Mosely than his chances at beating Mayweather will be better.
mf'er ... looks like you're having a ton of fun down there in fl - every week you got a pic up of yet ANOTHER boxer of whom you look to have turned into another buddy.
good shit!

I think Cotto is overdue for a Mosley type of fighter. What's good about this matchup is that Mosley doesn't try to outthink you or use his experience to outclass you. He just fights, and against a bigger man like Cotto, spells disaster for the "Sugar" man. Bigger, younger, stronger usually wins, especially if you only fight one way.

I'm not so sure of that Asian. Do you think Cotto could matchup against Winky or Vernon Forrest physically like Mosley did? I don't think so. Not to mention I don't think there are too many fighters that would out fight Mosley; even in this stage of his career. I can see Mosley getting out-boxed but not beat in a shootout.

Shane was a lightweight champion. As far as I know, Cotto was not. Cotto=Bigger, stronger man.

nah, Trinidad was fighting dudes with "0" in thier "L" column by age 26.
Oba Carr (32-0)
YoryBoy Campas (55-0)
Pernill Whitaker (42-2)
Camacho (43-2)
David Reid (14-0)
Vargas (20-0)
De La Hoya (30-0)
It's a step up for Cotto. give the man "whomever", and you know you will not be denied of an entertaining, and roller coaster of a fight! A younger Mosely would've been a toss up, but not today. I see Mosley's hand speed, power earning him points in the earlier rounds, as everyone else does. But sure enough, that rib cage will be mighty sore by the later rounds. Cotto is one the most active fighters today, fighting 3 times a year. I got Miguel Cotto on this one.
I am not a avid Miguel Cotto fan, but I will tell you this; Cotto has obliterated everyone that they have put in front of him. He has beat nearly every fighter more convincingly than they have ever been beat before. Has he had some bumps in the road... absolutely. I feel that he has learned significantly from the mistakes that he has made in the past. If Cotto were to fight a lesser opponent than that of Mosely, many people would disapprove. This is why it is essential that this fight happen now.
Not many people mention that not only does Cotto have an 83% ko ratio, but he has rarely lost a round in doing so. Therefore I believe that many people under-estimate Cotto's technical skills and versatility.

Maybe... He's fought a few fast fighters to prepare him for this fight, he's also fought some good punchers, I think he's about as ready as he'll ever be. Better work on that deffense thou.
No.
Cotto has been fighting pro since 2000 and has faced a good assortment of different styles from solid, but not real elite (arguably Judah was) fighters.
This is a very good matchup.
Damn, 2000 Olympian. 30 Pro Fights. Seven Years as a Pro. In the prime of his career.
Exactly how long should someone fight before taking on such fights?
And people are talking like Shane is still undefeated and runnin' shit. Dude's 36 and has been on the slide for four years. If Cotto's not ready now, he'll never be.
I think this is the perfect time to fight Mosley. Hes coming off a great win, and if he applies enough pressure should be able to bang mosley up, but i love Shane and if we could get the same Shane who fought against Vargas twice and Callazo, then it should be an entertaining fight.
