Pretty much all there is to say. How they saying this will elevate Joe in some way beats me :S
Jack Johnson got credit for beating a Jim Jeffries that hadn't fought in six years.
Mike Tyson got credit for beating a fat, out of shape, Larry Holmes.
Floyd Mayweather Jr got credit for beating a DLH that was 9 years past his peak at #1 p4p.
After what Hopkins did to Tarver and Wright in his last two fights, and considering that all of his big wins have come after he turned 36, if you don't at least give Calzaghe some credit for the win, that's pretty sad.
I may aswell copy my reply from the other thread.
I have to back Calzaghe in this one, and i think speed will be the main factor on fight night. There's alot of talk of Hopkins counter punching, but i don't think he will be fast enough to hit JC on a regular basis - certainly not enough to win the fight. Another area i think B-Hop is banking on is his inside game, fighting Joe in the clinch, but i see this as one of Joe's strongest areas so i don't think Bernard will have much of an advantage there - if at all.
Calzaghe UD.:usa2:

I'm delighted to be able to post again. Stressful time indeed.
I'm backing BHop to the fullest. I hope the brother comes thru with the strength of his skill. BH by decision.
Can Calzaghe hurt him is the real question. Those tapping shots wont be worth jazz against BHop.
open the poll damnit I have to vote
let me say I've only picked against Bernard Hopkins three times in my life. He lost two of them to Taylor and ended up beating Tarver. I picked Tarver because I thought Hopkins didn't throw enough punches anymore. I have learned one thing about B-Hop and that is that he never takes a fight he doesn't believe he SHOULD win. He does not see himself as the underdog at all and definitely has a plan. I came down to the wire before the Wright fight and finally went with B-Hop, but Calzaghe throws a lot more punches than Wright and will make Hopkins fight every minute. I think Calzaghe is going to edge this one 115-113 based on workrate. Plus, Hopkins needs to lose so he can finally retire. He will never quit as long as he is winning.
My bad Diego. If I could reopen it I would...
I take back me previous prediction and now am saying "B-HOP by SD", for some reason I had Thought that Joe.C had the reach advantage. I know know B-hop 75" and Joe C 73" , so I take that "Joe C by UD" back.
I've never picked against him, and I'm not going to start now. I have to take Bernard Hopkins by UD. Calzaghe has to keep the tempo up 24/7 to have a chance against Hopkins. I've never seen a fighter who hasn't danced to BHOP's beat in the ring.

I have no doubt that Hopkins is in for a long night, but that is not to say he won't find a way to win.
His experience in "big fights" may be a factor, but to me it comes down to whether or not Joe C. can deal with Hopkins best weapon - his head. If Hopkins cuts Joe C. early, he will be able to use his rough and tough inside work to get a stoppage on cuts later in the fight.
On the other hand, if Joe C. is able to keep Hopkins off of him, he should be plenty busy enough to keep Hopkins from landing much.
On paper it looks like a "Decision Win" for the younger Joe C. - but Hopkins always has that "X-Factor" --- we shall see.....
Hopkins won't know whats hit him, he's hasn't ever boxed anyone like Joe. Jeff Lacy all over again baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
the only thing that Lacy and Hop have in common, is that their both black and from america.
It wouldnt suprise me if calzaghe won decivsley,
However im really not sure if he is ready for hopkins ring craft,
People need to remember hopkins doesnt take fights unless he sees something he can expose in a fighter,
I watched a great video on you tube in which hopkins explains his dirty fightin techniques but also his outstanding boxing skills, he makes it clear he needs fighter to commit themselves so he can counter, he says he throws jabs at fighters not only to set up his own shots, but as bait to make them comit themselves so he can counter.
He is so deep into boxing tactics its not even funny and if there is one thing calzaghe is gonna do on sat night, its come in from all sorts of angles balanced or not, and i think this actually might just suit hopkins.
Calzaghe is an insticitve fighter, but i reckon he may have underestimate hopkins brain, if it gets tactical look for hopkins to pull off a shock.
Bro, would you mind putting that video up? It sounds very interesting.
