The Ring Magazine p4p ratings have dropped JT from their ratings after his fight w/ Cory Spinks. Taylor won, but it was an ugly fight. Does he really deserve this? Hes beaten Hopkins twice, Draw w/ Winky (another p4p fighter) and beat Kassim Ouma and Cory Spinks, one former champ, and one current champ.
his fights with hopkins and winky are history, forgotten already. his last two fights have been such stinkers against smaller fighters, that he lost a lot of credit for the fights he had before.
honestly, i think taylor is getting too much credit for his credentials. the 1st fight with hopkins was a joke. the 2nd one, taylor didnt really improve. he didnt beat winky, period. so i dont see how he should really get credit for a draw.
pavlik's inevitable victory over taylor will show that taylor was never anything more than a product who got pushed into the spotlight.
right now i thind he does, he has not ducked anyone is undefeated has a clean resume, and does not bull-shit like mayweather and gets paid less and gives a great effort to make it a fight, in eyes right up to this point yes he does need to be up there somewhere
You need to appreciate that both Winky and Spinks were smaller men. Taylor struggling so badly against them goes against the whole principal of p4p.
I would have to disagree with Ring Magazine removing Taylor from the list. Even though his last two performances weren't great doesn't mean anything. People say that Corey Spinks was a blown up welterweight and made Taylor look bad. I don't understand that. How can you make someone look bad when you only land 85 punches and don't even hurt your opponent. Spinks never really engage Taylor that much cause he was afraid of his power. Also Taylor was getting a better reaction out of the crowd because the punches he landed had more snap and excitement to them. He even landed more than Spinks so how did he make Taylor look bad. The Hopkins and Wright thing is ridicolous too. Regardless of how he did it he still beat Hopkins twice. People say Taylor didn't the first one and it was a fluke. If that was the case how come he was able to beat him again. Think about Rahman and lewis. And the Winky Wright draw was Winky's own fault anyway. If hadn't coasted the last couple of rounds and actually fought Taylor, Wright would have won. Thats true because even Taylor himself had said that. Point blank Taylor drew against Winky and beat Hopkins twice. Let me remind you that they are the best tactical boxers today and are part of the pound for pound elite. So I feel Taylor deserves to be up there. Don't take him off cause he had a couple of bad fights. It happens. He still won them and it was against former champions. If people are grading on unimpressive wins in the last couple fights than Floyd should be taken off. His wins against Baldomir and De La Hoya were far from impressive and I believe that alot of people can agree with me on that.
it means who is the best boxer with the size element taken out. as the title best pound for pound suggests.
haha just kidding i see your point. it is highly subjective. although the ring is a fairly decent authority on the subject.
who really cares?... IMO with all the alphabets and different weight divisions these days.. the ring's pound for pound is one of the most prestigious honours out there.
Maybe the Ring magazine TITLE but I don't think anybody cares about p4p because its totally subjective. We're talking about skill per pound what does that even mean?

I have no problem with him being outside the top 10 after his last couple of performances. He surely shouldn't be faulted for taking tough fights against Hopkins and Wright but he was far from impressive in any of those bouts and as such lacks a career defining victory...couple that with a couple uninspiring performances and I understand the drop. He definitely could be back in the top 10 with an impressive performance against Pavlik. And who really cares who is the best of a mythical category that really does nothing other than for ego.
Jermain Taylor does not deserve to be on the p4p list.
After he got his gifts against Hopkins and wright, he decided to fight small guys, and has struggled. I think he really needs to fight and beat Pavlik and Abraham, if he is to warant a spot on the p4p list.
well if ricky hatton and joe calzaghe are on the list i guess awful taylor has to be
If Calzaghe beats Kassler, I would rate him a top 3 P4P
Unified and longest reigning champion in today's boxing
Holds a title for over a decade
Undefeated in all of his professional carrier
Where Wright made the top 3 spot by winning two close fights against a MUCH smaller Mosley and beating Trinidad who couldn't answer Wright's style.
But if Wright loses to Hopkins and Calzaghe beats Kessler I would put both these guys in the top 3.
After seeing how shot Morales is, for some reason, I'm no longer impressed with Pacman's wins over Erik
Hey, but that's just my opinion. :tapedshut

the crowd was chanting "cory,cory!"
i dont think he is one of the ten best p4p fighters on the planet..
that being said, a drop from the middle of the top 10 to off it completely seems excessive.

I watched the first fight with taylor/hopkins and i really didnt see taylor land more than 2 or 3 clean shots in the entire fight. Taylor only won 4 or 5 rounds in my book b/c hopkins didn't throw anything, not b/c taylor beat him in the round, only b/c hopkins just didnt throw anything. The 2nd fight was different, and i wish i could see the taylor that fought hopkins the 2nd time around.
You need to check your eyes, the first Hopkins fight was not even close, I had Hopkins winning only the last 3 rounds.
If Taylor is not in your top 5 you need to be shot and that includes the fuckers from Ring Magazine who are bunch of crack heads.
i do think Taylor won the first fight against Hopkins, but theres no fucking way to give Hopkins less than 4 rounds
rounds 5 and 7 are close....every other one is taylor's

i like their p4p list. taylor has NO reason bein on there. he beat hopkins ONCE, i'll give him that, no way he won the first fight, no way. and he lost to winky. and he looked ridiculous against a blown up welterweight
