My fav would be during what I believe was the HBO double header with Hopkins 1st and Jones 2nd when jones ko'd that bum with the behind the back punch. Anyhow , Bernard had a Golden Palace.Com air brush logo on his back and during the interview he (Bernard) kept plugging the site and Larry had enough and said something to the effect of "This isn't a tv commercial you mention it again and the intreview is over" the look on Bernard's face was priceless. I just like that he said what almost everyone other than Golden Palace.Com stockholders wanted him to say and was kind of a dick about it.
I am still with Lacy...I am not saying that his last two fights have been anything to build off as a fan...I just think he will focus and rebound from the loss and looking bad in a fight he won. I hope he does atleast...one more sloppy fight or loss and he will be in big trouble though.
I feel the same way, a few months ago I post something like this kind of just checking on his condition. I had heard that he had initially had a minor eye injury and when I posted the thread I was told that it was serious. But, he was expected to be back soon...that was months ago and we still don't know his future...that can't be good....he must be hurt pretty bad because with his last performance and the fact that he is a heavyweight that is actually fun to watch you'd think that there would atleast be money on the table for a rematch if not other big payday's with other fighters. Jesus Saturday Night was a nightmare and it made me beg for a guy like Brewster to be back. Reguardless I hope he is o.k. more than anything, I think he's a family man.
Mine are more or less what i'd like to see not what I think will happen, although maybe in my perfect world.
Toney Vs Wlad
Tyson Vs Holyfield III
Jones Vs Hopkins II
Mayweather Vs Mosley (Or any meaningful opponent for Mayweather)
Lacy Vs Calzaghe
De La Hoya Vs Mayweather
Tyson Vs Valuev (Sorry but after Saturday i'd like to see it...I'd watch Mike fight my mother and want him to win though lol)
Ultimately though though i'd like to see Mayweather Vs Mosley Or Mayweather Vs Jones the most...Tyson I just love the guy and until they say he is offically dead then I will always think that he has a shot if he worked hard and wanted it...which he doesn't seem like he wants to, but that's the great thing about boxing you can always hope that your guy can have that heart of a champion one last time and do something amazing and in Mike's case winning a belt would truly make his story the most insane story ever. But I love boxing and either way i'm sure something great will happen this year, there's to much unsettled business from 06 for 07 not to be good.
I am a Floyd fan and I will say this he will get no more respect from me, I think he will win this fight quite easily based on Oscar's age desire and trouble with less craftier fighters Floyd will walk away with this. It may not be pretty and it may be a let down based on hype, but from a boxing stand point it will be one sided I think. Floyd will get real respect when he fights a guy like Mosley someone that it this stage is actually a threat...I hate that he only takes money fights that he will win easily. Can't blame him for making money alot of fighters before him fought all the big fights and retired broke so if Floyd wants to cash in while in his prime so be it, his life , his career...If he wants the fans the media and boxing to give him that ultimate respect that he seems to have for himself he will have to fight the best fighters out there not for money.
I just can't see DLH being able to do anywhere near as much as Sugar Shane...Oscar looked kind of horrible to me against Sweet Pea and Floyd may be even a better defender and surely a better puncher than Whittaker. Shane would be a much more difficult fight for Floyd. I think he would win both just about as easy as he did tonite...he was very impressive to me and looked almost unbeatable and by far more skilled than any fighter I have seen in a long time. Tonite was a starnge night though two wins Willams & Mayweather, both lopsided fights that were impressive form a punching perspective and the clear winners actually came off looking kind of bad in the eyes of the crowd. That's strange.
Larry had a point, despite how brilliant Floyd looked, when the crowd boo's and leaves a boxing match like it's a 7th inning blow out baseball game it's clearly a problem. If Larry didn't mention it HBO would have looked like FOX during the World Series, ignoring a true fact so the network doesn't lose face for putting this on P-P-V...just because Floyd or some fans didn't like the comment doesn't make it any less true, people did leave and were upset that a guy with this much skill wouldn't open up and try to K.O. a guy he was beating at will. Larry did the right thing...he even said while Floyd was going nuts what everyone wants to say "We just want you to take a meaningful fight" I think everyone deep down knows he will destroy Margarito and probably make him look worse than he did Baldy beacuse of all the things that have been said...so why not just take the fight? Or Fight Sugar Shane or DLH...any one of those fights could help him prove his skeptics wrong and would give him more of a reason to be arrogant...So Larry was 100% right for what he did, it's what he does and what should be expected.
No Question Tyson...Say what you will but in his prime he could generate excitment and fear that I have never seen in any sport with anyone other thna Jordan in basketball. He also won impressively and for anyone that believe's that he never beat anybody etc. IMO the heavyweight division's far worse now than when he fought in his prime, back then the guys actually had some speed and skills. Nowadays, these guys look like bloated animals that move slower than super glue flowing up hill. Also , Jones , Toney , Hopkin's , Sweet Pea & Flloyd.
I'd say yes, If he actually took those fights and won, no way that his Pound for pound could be disputed. Even if you hate Mayweather, you would have to give him credit for finally taking some fights that people think would be tough for him or that he has been ducking...if he not only took the fights but won with even a glimmer of what we seen in those lopsided embarassments of Judah and Gatti, there would be no way his status could be argued. I personally like Mayweather as a fighter alot, but like everyone else I wish he would fight somebody that might pose even a small threat. I hope he gets in there with Mosely or Winky the most. The Margirito fight would be nice, but Mayweather would mop the floor with that bum.
God I miss Sweet Pea!!!!!! The DLH fight was one of the moments in boxing where I was so outraged I almost quit watching...How can u beat a guy you can't even get close to hitting?
Only reason there shouldn't be a rematch is simply because Peter looked so bad and clearly didn't deserve the win. Toney is a great fighter and Peter looked like a sloppy slow ass bum against him period.
His D did make that possible...but I will give the guy credit he took some huge shots before being K.O.'d unlike Gibbs it was the build up of alot of huge right hands that led to that late round K.O. nothing should or is being taken away from Hernandez he was great and won a fight that he was losing in late rounds...hats off to him. The point is Litzau doesn't have a glass jaw...a glass jaw is when a fighter gets k.o.'d early numerous times with one punch...Litzau appeared to me to have more problems keeping his hands up and defending that right that hit him NUMEROUS times and very hard...Glass Jaw fighters rarely get up and take control of a fight...let alone get up put on a clinic and then get careless...he is young and poorly trained from a defensive point of view IMO.

Jones will fight again he looked great in his last bout and probably has many good fights left in him. I don't understand the hate he recieves, he is one of the best if not the best pound for pound fighter ever and although he is arrogant...he seems like a descent man. I am with the thread starter I want more Jones, he's a dying breed a good fighter who is smart and exciting. Most fighters today are like Taylor barely winning fights and even in victories looks sloppy. Jones always looked in control and yes he was ko'd so was every great fighter in the history of the sport on or off the record at one time or another.
He's a fighter and they all have the same disease...staying to long, even fans suffer from it sometimes. You know your guy is done and then he fights what seems like a one shot deal to leave with a win and he wins so before you know it the fighter and his fans what him to make another run at it. I do it all the time with the guys I have really come to love as fighters over the years. It's sad but a part of the sport, impulse makes a good fighter and it also makes the good fighter fight way to long. Jones is a guy that I still love to watch...He won his last fight why not move on. Honestly, I would like to see him avenge his losses and maybe fight a rematch with B-Hop or some crazy ass showdown with FMJ or DLH...That's just me.
I think the ending was more or less about Rocky feeling happy about the outcome of his career...he fought a good fight that no one thought he could win or have a chance at and he came close...it was to me about him getting all those demons out and going out his way win or lose just fighting as hard as he could. I loved the film though alot of people may not have but I will take it over 5 as an ending 7 days a week
I agree, but if Tyson looks good against Sander a guy who floored the current champ than whay would'nt he give a big money fight a chance? He owes Showtime a fight, so I f he looks good he will be in the schenme of things again, possibly maybe a shot at one of the million belts out there.....Good Luck Mike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He says alot of really obvious things about fighters while really never taking a stand himself and giving a real opinon. Say what you want about Larry, but right or wrong the guy gives you his opinon and trys to be insightful with backing up his arguments & opinon's. (Although he isn't always right, but funny all the time)
For this first time in my life my fighter won on a very questionable...well no he didn't deserve that reguardless, but I have to say that having your guy win like that is no fun at all for me it's a first, usually my favorite guy's lose close ones in this case my guy got it. I really didn't care emotionally though I like both guys almost equally. I just decided to root for Vernon based on my past with him in fights (Meaning enjoyment of the fights)...To bad for Ike his ego may never recover and it's a godamn shame he's a great fighter. Great stoty btw up top.
I wasn't aware that the injury was that bad, I think what i read was along the lines of "Brewster suffered a eye injury during the fight" nothing that would lead me to believe it was so serious, but with the ammount of time he's been away it makes sense.
Was the damage to his eye signifigant? I heard it was a minor injury with no detail's shortly after the fight, but if it's still healing from April it may have been worse than was reported in the story I read.
Reguardless of what happens Roy was a great fighter overall and it was a privelege to watch him for all thes years and if this is his last fight , win or lose I have no problem laying down 24.95 to see Roy one last time. This will be either one of two ways , if Jones doesn't establish control early he will lose, if he does and works himself into arrogant state of mind he will control the fight against a slower fighter. Either way he deserves a welcome back or a fairwell from all his fans that have loved him for so long....Good Luck Roy....Peace
I will have to say Holyfield...he has butted so many people for so long and for me what he did to Rock was the last straw. There are butts in the Tyson fights that are outrageous and the fact that there weren't even warning's issued was unacceptable. I have always said and always will...I'm glad Tyson bit his ear off for two reason's....1. He deserved it and 2.It was the single craziest fucking thing i've ever seen. I realize it's unacceptable....for any humanbeing other than Mike Tyson.
