i know that he can be annoying at times, not make sense others but he is also funny here is two of the funniest lines he has had does anybody have anymore or their personal favorite larry line ???
larry about michael grant : " to say that grant has a glass jaw would be an insult to the glass"
larry about andrew "six heads" lewis : "lewis may have six heads but he has no chins"
I think that the problem with Larry is that he started out as a sportswriter and he tries to use illustrious, well-thought out metaphors that writers have the advantage of time to come up with. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't have much time to think about what he is going to say; therefore, he slows down his speech, acts thoughtful, and more often than not, comes up with some bizarre illustration. Of course, aging and purported alcohol use do not help his problem.
I seen him interview with Tarver in Tarver-Jones 3 and though he wanted to take away Tarver win of Jones saying that Jones did do much.
As i seen it its more like a chess match one mistake from anyone one of them and they could be hitting in the canvas or owned. So its alway to be careful when fighting a with Roy Jones Jr as well as Tarver (cause he has the KOed Jones in 2nd round in part 2). Roy Jones is just brave enough to face someone who just KOed him in the second round. I guess many people wont fight guy who only could possiablly KO him and you gotta give credits for both fighters
Absolutely
I was never a fan of guys like Larry that think it is clever and funny to make fun of boxers who make it possible for him to even have a job in the first place
I have never liked Larry...he humiliates fighters...I know his job is to commentate ie: to make comments...has he ever stepped through the ropes with gloves on?
I rememeber a real funny one, but from Jim Lampley.
When Joe Mesi knocked out Dvarryl "Touch of Sleep" Williamson in minute or so.
Lampley says "well, Williamson got touched, and he slept"
Damn that's stupid.
On the Hopkins vs. Tarver fight
Larry: Wake me up, when something happens.
16 minutes later
Larry: I should have stayed home today.
I was killing myself laughing at that.
Hahahahahaha, thats good stuff.
As dominating of a fight that was, it was quite boring.

the funniest one i remember was in the castillo-mayweather first fight when the ref told them to calm it down, and Merchant started screaming "WHAT DO U MEAN CALM IT DOWN!" "I THINK HE NEEDS TO CALM IT DOWN!" lmao, anyone who heard that shit knows what im talkin about, it was hilarious, merchant was amp, he would have socked the ref right there if he could of...
Yeah I remember that one.
he said "He has a mouth full of 20 karats worth of diamonds, unfortunately they are in a setting of glass."
He also said "As Mayweather puts it, this is flawless against jawless."
That was hilarious. I remember him getting into it with Don King and Lennox Lewis after Byrd beat Holyfield, but I can't recollect what exactly the beef was about, or how it eventually played out, but it was funny at the time.
Larry Merchant will always be considered one of the great commentators simply because, love or hate him, you remember him. That's why there even is a thread about him here to begin with. He's outspoken, and sometimes clever. Like when he spoke about Judah before the Mayweather-Judah fight.
"Zab Judah's mouth is three pounds of diamonds enclosed in a case of glass." Or some such. Referring to his chin.

WOW
im begining to think you are due for some type surgery
Shut the fuck up. If anyone is retarded it is you. Having 1,000 posts in a little over 2 weeks. No wonder you have bad karma you always act like a little bitch. A 32 year old man living with his mama taking care of him. No wonder you stay online all day, you don't have a motherfuckin job, nigga. OWNED!!!!!!!.
Bitch!!!!!!!!
What's the story between Merchant and Hopkins anyway?
The guy's quite funny sometimes, but he's turning into a listless old fart lately. He seems to be losing his mojo IMO.
Merchant and Hopkins have always been cool with each other. Hopkins was on HBO for most of his career.

*Pacqauoi is like a typhoon straight outta the pacific!*
Larry is hands down the best out there and it aint up for debate.
The funniest I heard was before Floyd Mayweathers last fight against Brusseless.
Jim Lampley: How does a fighter like Brusseless get a shot at a fighter like Mayweather?
Lary Merchant: Well...I guess the woman Floyd usually spar's with was busy.
making a comment on Floyd and his fetish for smaking women around.
That's a good one!
I have 2 favorite Merchant lines
" Hey if you guys don't shut up, I'm gonna stop this interview" he says this to Brewster's crew, after the Wlad fight. Because they are yelling too loud and you can't hear Brewster's response to the question.
" The best part of that round was their boxing trunks" after the 1st round between Tim Austin and Ratanachai Vorapin. A Boring round, but they had fancy trunks.
