There's no sense rushing back into the ring after receiving such a career threatening injury. I think it's unlikely that we'll see a rematch between Brewster and Lykhovich this year. I also don't see Brewster getting back into the ring until sometime next year if the injury hasn't forced him into retirement.
Brewster nearly beat Liakhovich with only one good eye. I see him winning by stoppage in a rematch. Remember he had Liakhovich down right at the end of a round, but the bell saved Sergei.
na man, Brewster was just a bit overhyped, all it took was a tough guy who could take punches and not run outta energy. Klitschko had Brewster stumblin all over the ring till he ran out of gas, Lyhovich proved that Brewster was too hyped up...
Brewster had options in the contract for a rematch. No matter what happens to him, Lyakhovich has to live up to that obligation if Brewster chooses to exercise that right.
I dont think so.
He is one fight away.
show me a prgnosis, something, anything that indicates he will ready to fight anytime soon. the fact is you cannot, and the fact is that if lamon brewster were going to be ready and was one fight away you would be hearing from him right now.
he is not training with a detached retina, id be suprised if he isnt 30 pounds over his best fighting weight at the moment.
i guarantee you he doesent fight before the end of the year.

i dont think we will see him back before the end of this year.
and when we do he will not want to step right into a rematch with lyakovich.
hes at least a year, maybe a year and a half away from challenging anyone for a title.

I think he will come back to beat Lyakovitch in a rematch!
I would mind seeing the winner, or just either one of those guys fight brock.
Brewster vs Brock would be nice.
Shouldnt Calvin be due for a title shot soon?
I wasn't aware that the injury was that bad, I think what i read was along the lines of "Brewster suffered a eye injury during the fight" nothing that would lead me to believe it was so serious, but with the ammount of time he's been away it makes sense.
I was just about to make this thread.
I think he should take a fight against a fringe contender like Tony Thompson, then he can decide his next move depending on how that goes.
i think youre right about a fringe contender, he should stay away from tony thompson though, who is a southpaw that throws in combination and fights well inside.
that would be a very bad matchup for lamon. he should fight audley harrison, that would be a nice easy win.
Was the damage to his eye signifigant? I heard it was a minor injury with no detail's shortly after the fight, but if it's still healing from April it may have been worse than was reported in the story I read.
detached retina, very serious injury, could be career ending...

I heard it was severe as much as as Sugar Ray Leonards...Whether or not thats true is another story. Either way that type of injury can put you out for a long time, its more than breaking a bone or tearing a muscle.
