If Floyd ever beat Mosley, De La Hoya, Margarito, Cotto, and Hatton, do you think he will go down as the best boxer alive as he claims now? Personally I know that he is not one of the greats but if he manages to beat all of these guys he will be on my list. And which one of these guys do you think will give PBF the most trouble? I think Sugar Shane would. What do you guys think?
I'd say yes, If he actually took those fights and won, no way that his Pound for pound could be disputed. Even if you hate Mayweather, you would have to give him credit for finally taking some fights that people think would be tough for him or that he has been ducking...if he not only took the fights but won with even a glimmer of what we seen in those lopsided embarassments of Judah and Gatti, there would be no way his status could be argued. I personally like Mayweather as a fighter alot, but like everyone else I wish he would fight somebody that might pose even a small threat. I hope he gets in there with Mosely or Winky the most. The Margirito fight would be nice, but Mayweather would mop the floor with that bum.
Maybe not greatest ever but I think greatest unarguably of his time.
I think Floyd knows how to beat a Hatton type fighter.
I don't think Floyd will ever go to 160 just based on his height.
Leonard is taller than Floyd so it didn't look to bad for him at middlweight.
Well assuming that my hypothetical situation was real (what this thread is about you fucking moron)
Ricky Hatton isn't world class?
Oscar De La Hoya isn't world class?
Winky Wright isn't world class?
Jermaine Taylor isn't world class?
Shane Mosely isn't world class?
Miguel Cotto isn't world class?
Jose Luis Castillo isn't world class?
Diego Corrales isn't world class?
Jesus Chavez isn't world class?
Genero Hernandez isn't world class?
Zab Judah isn't world class?
If he beats all those guys and had all those division titles you would have to consider him an all-time. No one will ever consider floyd the greatest because I think that spot is saved for SRR. But if he did beat these people he should be considered the G.O.A.T.
TO be the best ever, Mayweather has to fight and beat Baldomir, Mosley, De La Hoya, Spinks (or whoever the 154lb champ is) and the middleweight champ, before retiring undefeated. Then I will definitely recognize him as the greatest fighter of all time. It's a tall order, but Mayweather could do it.
ok so name me the world class opponents he has fought

no fighter will ever be able to surpass the fighters of the past because the fights are only 12 rounds 15 rounds is where the real champions where born and in todays game it just aint happening
no because he has'nt fought anyone of worth
except castillo
you obviously don't know how to follow discussions. now re-read this thread again and get back to me, you fucking dolt.
I see your point about fighting often, but I still would never rate Floyd as highly. Look at the last 3 years of his career. SRR never fought a series of opponents so weak even after he was over the hill. Floyd has managed his career much more carefully (and while that makes him smart and rich, it doesn't make him the #1 fighter of all time in my mind).
Lets say he would of taken those big fights earlier and won were would he be now. Fighting contendors and people would be saying oh well that kid wasn't ready for floyd or why is floyd fighting youngsters. Robinson was great but I don't think I want to see the same guys fight eachother more than 3 times.
Mark my words:
If CASTILLO couldn't beat Mayweather (even when he's fighting with one arm albeit) by pressuring him, there's no fucking way in hell Hatton is going to.
I agree and I think people will see when/if Castillo and Hatton fight next year.
As for the topic question, If Floyd beats DLH, Mosley, Hatton, and Cotto then he will be one of the best ever. Margarito is STILL a nobody and will mean absolutely nothing in 5 years if he doesn't get some quality victories. Throw in Spinks or Karmazin (or another legit champ at 154) and Floyd has to be considered top 3. Beating Taylor or Winky????? Be serious. Floyd fought in the Olympics at 125. For him to go to 160 and beat the champ would be damn near impossible and he ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY MUST be considered the best ever if he did that. In reality, he shouldn't even be able to go to 154 and win, but thats how talented he is. Some people get so caught up in hating him because of his personality that they forget how amazing his career already is. He has been the man in 4 divisions (after Nov. 4).
Don't get me wrong, I highly doubt that would ever happen.
But the point of that was to show that no matter what Floyd accomplishes in his career, he will (in your mind) never be considered the greatest... simply because he doesn't fight week in and week out? Give me a break.

I'm sorry but if Floyd had these names on his resume when it was all said and done:
Oscar De La Hoya
Winky Wright
Shane Mosely
Ricky Hatton
Miguel Cotto
Diego Corrales
Jermaine Taylor
Jose Luis Castillo (x2)
Arturo Gatti
Genero Hernandez
Carlos Baldomir
Zab Judah
Jesus Chavez
And say he retired undefeated middle weight 6 division champion of the world... you're telling me I couldn't even make an ARGUEMENT that he was best fighter that ever lived?
Yes he would. To say he wouldn't is igoniring the fighters he has beat already. If he beats those people with no contraversy you can't ignor him and his skill. The comisions now a days won't let a champion fight every other week so he can't do what sugar did but that shouldn't take any thing from floyd.
The hardest opp would be oscar because of size and they are some what close to skill level. Floyd has already pointed flaws in shanes style and I think castillo has a better pressure style than hatton

Hatton Maweather woudn't be Gatti Mayweather.. but it would be close..

mayweather is VERY clever, hatton applies pressure yeh,it would trouble floyd, but floyds smart enough 2 find his way around that, shane is a smart guy,he will have tactics, which is why i think hes the man 2 beat floyd, when floyd loses it will be a tactical fight, both fighters trickin an movin and thinkin about what they do,a propper boxin match, hatton vs mayweather is like the bully vs the geek, the bully pushes the geek around, but in the end the bully is thinkin fuck why wasnt i like him, hatton would get a science lesson 2 remember
Even if he beat Taylor at 160 and Winky I still don't see his accomplishments to be as great as SRR. But those wins would put him in my top 10. It is hard for me to rank today's fighters highly when they fight 2-4 times a year. The sheer number of fights the "old timers" had was impressive. Let alone the level of competition and turn around times.
I don't see him winning a fight at 160, either.
So if he did become the middleweight champion of the world, that would be cause for greatness, would it not?
