i hope khan really does pull off the upset. why doesn't any of these reporters bring up the fact that Khan isn't facing an old, beat up, over the hill, past his prime, 40 year old f**king fighter!!!
Who wouldn't have a smile? He basically secured a nice payday & I believe his first US PPV fight cuz Ward won.
I'm curious how well Ward deals with Kov's power. I feel like he's a younger Bhop in many ways & an old Bhop went 12 with Kov so I think Ward can too. With that being the case I just think its ultimately about who's the better boxer. I think Ward is for sure the better boxer, but how much does Kov's superior power negate Ward's higher boxing IQ when Kov does land? Its an interesting fight I feel. I'm leaning Ward's way, but Kov doesn't suck at boxing himself + his power is a game changer potentially in this fight.
The only reason Hopkins lasted 12 with Kovalev was because he was in defensive mode ever since his KD... If Hopkins even made a slight attempt to fight Krusher....well you know.
Mayweather has never backed down from a rematch that the fans call for. They said it was close, so they did it again.
dela hoya, cotto fights were close also and also more lucrative..
If I recall, the US Olympic boxing team failed miserably during the 2012 Olympics. Did they even get a medal?
It's not looking good for american boxers.
Jessie was trying to copy the Marquez/Mayweather gampelan. His plan was to circle to his left and catch Manny coming in. Vargas attempted to counter with his right hand and land a huge shot all night but he fell short.
People never do well when they mix it up with Manny so Vargas was smart to try and avoid exchanges. The issue was that Vargas did not have the same sense of timing and distance that Mayweather and Marquez have so he did not perform as well as those guys. Manny was clearly the more experienced guy and it showed. Vargas tried his best to stick to a gameplan but it wasn't good enough to win.
When plan A doesn't work through rounds 1-6 you move on to plan B. In the championship rounds he should've gone for the Ko.
That's what great fighters do.
I guess that if the white man would have said in the past: "No black man will ever beat me" you would be ok with the black man kicking his out of the ring.
wtf are you even talking about?... are you stupid?
Fans want excitement. You have to be defensively responsible and let your hands go at the same time. It's a simple formula, really. Look at Legends like Whitaker, Ali, SRL, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, Chavez, Pacquiao, Barrera, Morales, etc. They were exciting to watch and they were good defenders as well. What happened on May 2nd, should change the way you watch/judge a fight. Let's take it back to the days where a fighter is penalized for excessive running, holding, and dirty tactics. You should have to fight to win a fight. You cannot take away a Champion's belt when they are coming forward and trying to make the fight. You used to have to take away a Champion's title. Judging now is a joke and the refs are as well. Floyd has come along and destroyed what little pride boxing had left with his antics and cowardly ways in the ring. His finale fight won't do 600K. WATCH! Fans are tired of him and aren't fooled by his pot-shotting, excessive holding, dirty tactics, and running anymore. Manny exposed him for what he truly is, a coward. He fights like a punk. It's hard to watch that nonsense.
he's gonna do atleast a a milllion buys in his next fight. fans are tired of watching floyd mayweather and a lot of them say that they're not gonna buy/watch his next fight. but once they see that sho time promo all these people (including many people here on boxingscene) suffer from a severe case of amnesia. people start getting wet. they call up their cable providers and order that 59.99 HD PPV asap.
Are there people on football forums saying "so and so team needs to understand that just running the ball isn't exciting. People want to see deep passes" or on a basketball forum "so and so is so boring with all the lay ups. People want to see guys shooting 3s". Or is it just boxing where the method of victory is more important to some than the actual victory.
you cant compare the sport of boxing compared to soccer, football, basketball, baseball, hockey. its a completely different business.
I think he's socially awkward and has zero charisma. His act is very contrived. I agree with you though people want to see the best, his fights are big events and put together very well.
fans that go pay to watch a mayweather fight, pay to see him lose. celebrities go to mayweather fights to be seen by the media. i dont believe fans go to watch him display his skills.
i think there are agencies out there who pay people to fill the arena to watch good but boring boxers (lara).
Klitschko is at the top of boring as f*ck list bro that includes Floyd, Ward, Lara...
klitschko racks up KO's. mayweather, ward, lara do not.
you guys need to ask yourself this one question. do you think mayweather would be in the position he's in today based solely on his boxing skills. i dont think so. he was able to market himself as the bad guy. people bought into it and ever since he's been making money off of his villain persona.
some of you guys really dont know ****about boxing...
let me give you guys some bullet points as to why khan has the best chance out of everyone in the WW division to beat mayweather.
1. khan is not the same fighter he was 2-3 years ago when he fought danny garcia. it's clear that he's improved greatly under virgil hunter.
2. khan has speed that can match mayweather's.
3. khan throws combinations. manny throws combinations but his reach was a disadvantage. see below.
4. khan has a reach and height advantage. it will allow him to land punches from the outside. manny's height and reach was a huge disadvantage. manny couldn't land anything from the outside and when he tried to be more aggressive to fight inside he would simply miss.
5 khan is younger. say what you want but this still is an important factor. khan still has the energy and motivation to outwork floyd. one of the most surprising things we saw last night was that floyd threw more punches than manny.
khan UD mayweather.
Didn't Broner-Porter do 3.3 million views? Or was it 3.7 million?
I'm pretty sure the entire Mayweather Promotions event was a huge success. Ellerbe did just fine.
Ellerbe had nothing to do with it...it was all broner who attracted the viewers.
uhh well if khan get his butt whipp enough he will quit kust like the rest of them,,the only ifference is that khan is not smart he dont know when he is beat,,,,cotto was a smart man for quitting aginst margarito because that was violent and career altering beatting,
khan was hurt BAD against maidana and peterson. where do you think his career would be right now if he had quit in those fights.
OP that's a terrible argument for Khan being able to win. By that logic, Gatti would have beat Mayweather.
Mayweather had a height and reach advantage and most important of all... speed. So I don't know what youre talking about.
this sucked ass...The whole point of this show is to hype the fight instead all they did was compliment each other.
Also why don't they just call it SkyTV Face Off since it's a essentially a complete rip off of HBO's version.
Except he didn't. After Joshua got up - Wlad went after him and tried to land the left hook. Joshua Avoided it.
Does Joshua get credit for avoiding the KO punch whilst hurt? Or does the punch you wanted to land take precedent?
He threw single punches. Did you see the barrage of punches Joshua threw that eventually ended the fight? Why couldn't Wlad do something similar. It would've been game over if he did.
Wlads mistake was head hunting, instead of working that body
Jousha was in dead water for about 3 rounds, hardly throwing punches, this is when Wlad should have worked his body
Wlad should have broke his body down
f*ck the body. if wlad landed one clean shot to the head between rounds 6-8, it'd be over.
I saw the wlad-Jennings fight from up there. It's not too bad. Definitely worth it for $50. The arena is going to be electric.
what do you mean by "not too bad"....is it obvious to tell when a big punch is landed or do you only when there is a reaction from the crowd but really you dont know what the f*ck just happened.
Honestly, mike Tyson's punch out. Then I started watching the tyson and Chavez fights with my uncles. Then being the only white boy in my family (and in my neighborhood) got me into the gym for a bit to learn the basics.
When I got older I followed delahoya and Mosley. Two of my all time favorites. But, most recently Bradley got me back into the sport.
how did you feel when you found out that your two favourite fighters was a drug user and a cross dresser..
You do realize that if we're talking about styles that Pacquiao is the mongoose and Mayweather is the Cobra right?
The mongoose goes in ferociously and uses quick footwork to move in and out to get into position deliver fast combinations with power. The mongoose is resilent to the cobra's venom and Pac's chin and conditioning make him resilient to Mayweather's shots.
The cobra uses precision venom tipped strikes with pinpoint accuracy and untraceable speed the same way mayweather picks his shots. It coils its body to fool you of it's range the same way mayweather controls distance.
were you watching a different video?...the cobra is clearly pacquiao. the cobra was attacking recklessly while the mayweather aka the mongoose was sitting back using his speed and footwork for defense and eventually countered with a KO.
is there an official rule that states slapping, back hand or hammer punching is illegal? cause calzaghe slapped his entire career and it was never an issue with the refs.
Why anybody would pay hundreds of dollars for a ticket to watch a mayweather bout is mind boggling. Paying for mayweather ppv fight is already bad enough.
The only thing electric about a mayweather event is when the event is finally over. People are mad excited to find the nearest exit
