Vargas was the champion going into the fight but Pacquiao was clearly the heavy favourite to win.
Vargas showed no intention on pressing the action, fighting toe to toe or making it an all out slug fest. In the post fight interview he basically accepted the loss as if it didn't matter. Instead he should've pressured Pac in the second half of the fight to get the WIN. This fight was only mildly interesting because Pac was pressuring the action 99% of the time.
You can tell this guy wants to be a boxing superstar yet he has the boxing style that will put you to sleep.
Jessie was trying to copy the Marquez/Mayweather gampelan. His plan was to circle to his left and catch Manny coming in. Vargas attempted to counter with his right hand and land a huge shot all night but he fell short.
People never do well when they mix it up with Manny so Vargas was smart to try and avoid exchanges. The issue was that Vargas did not have the same sense of timing and distance that Mayweather and Marquez have so he did not perform as well as those guys. Manny was clearly the more experienced guy and it showed. Vargas tried his best to stick to a gameplan but it wasn't good enough to win.
When plan A doesn't work through rounds 1-6 you move on to plan B. In the championship rounds he should've gone for the Ko.
That's what great fighters do.

He wanted to land that marquez right hand all night, the thing is, you need to really set that up and vargas just wanted to caught him in the way in...Paquiao knew this from the beginning
On another note Pacquiao should move down. Fighting these lanky guys he jumps in from too far and is unable to really land his left without the lead, against someone his own size his boxing always looks way better to me, so why not lower the odds of very tall+alot heavier guys. He'll last longer at 140.
What really bothered me on the night, Vargas only took steps back, without Pacquiao chasing after his 5'10 opponent that would've been a shtfest of a fight.
I know it was the strategy to envoke his inner juan marquez KTFO6 but Marquez would also switch it up and lead.
I don't think anyone's ever stated that Vargas is supposed to be a superstar he's a solid fighter
I thought Vargas did alright and held is own , Pacs a ledgend and a difficult guy to fight against
Vargas did better then other fighters you would consider around his calibre like Rios , Algieri
