He was AJ's mandatory for the WBA title; Don't you remember? Right after AJ fought and won his title belts against Wladimir Klitschko. He had an option to either defend his IBF title against Carlos Takam or defend his WBA title against Luis Ortiz instead; but yet he chose the former Carlos Takam. Which set up the Wilder WBC title shot because Joshua refused to challenge him at the time.
Ok thanks for biting. This is what I mean by rewriting history ladies and gentleman. He did not have the choice to fight pulev or Ortiz. What happened was he Ibf called their mandatory and the wba didn’t. It was not a straight choice between the two of them. Had Ortiz not lost to wilder and failed that drugs test might I add he would have been the one facing aj on Saturday not povetkin. But yeah you carry on painting this false narrative of aj choosing to fight takam over Ortiz
Y’all don’t see through the bull**** yet? He’s willing to wait for the Whyte fight which takes place December 22th weeks later than the fight and have no issue waiting on him. However wants Wilder to agree to something when he fights December 1st and can negotiate after the fight. Why they not forcing Whyte to agree to anything when his fight is much later? If folks don’t see through the bull**** and can’t figure out Whyte is his opponent all along and they sitting up new games and excuses i don’t know what to tell you.
Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if whyte has already agreed to the terms of the rematch given his relationship with Hearn which blows your argument out of the water :)
How long was Ortiz was supposed to wait for his opportunity? That was the main reason why he signed with Matchroom in the first place to get his title shot at Joshua. He waited for Klitschko, then he was expected to wait for several more months after Joshua's IBF mandatory defense. I can't blame him for leaving Matchroom for an instant shot at the WBC title from the PBC.
You’re embarrassing yourself even more now. Ortiz signed with Hearn in October of 2016 well before aj became wba champion so that’s not “the reason he signed with him” in fact he left hearn before aj became wba champ so please explain to me once again how that was the reason he signed for him in the first place.
In regards as to how long does he have to wait, he has to wait until the wba ordered the mandatory, it’s not Hearn or aj’s fault the ibf called their mandatory first. Ortiz may have made a lot of noise about being the mandatory and he was but super champions have 18 months to fulfil any mandatory obligations and the ibf called their Mando in the mean time.
Incorrect, he was prescribed hydrochlorithiazide for his blood pressure which is why he was still ranked with the WBC but mysteriously the WBA dropped him after the mandatory Hearn controlled ranking was sabotaged by yes I agree Edwards Hearns!
I agree with everything else, AJ is media hype created by Edwards Hearns, his gold medal was even given to him thanks to home cooked decisions!
So he didn’t fail a drug test is what you are saying
The bigger question is which elite fighter/champion/contender outside of Deontay Wilder ever gave him an opportunity? Anthony Joshua had an opportunity to challenge him but didn't. Wladimir Klitschko had an opportunity to challenge him but didn't. Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte both had opportunities but didn't give him a chance. So the list goes on and on but to this day, every elite championship contender and titleholder continue to avoid and duck this man. Why?
Lol when did aj have the opportunity to fight him? People keep rewriting history on this one.
It’s funny how people think Ortiz deserves a shot after beating that Romanian but will turn there nose up at a whyte rematch even though he just beat an ex world champ
Lol no he's not but nice try what he is though Is a 2 time drug cheat who never deserved to fight for a title again
Are we talking about Ortiz or povetkin here? Aren’t they both two time drugs cheats
And what has Ortiz done or who has he beaten that makes you think he deserves to be ranked above povetkin
BT Sports answer to the gloves are off I guess.
Title already has me laughing O.Ds trash talk is so terrible its hilarious. He's just such a daft ****er I can't help but like him.
He sounds a bit special. Wouldn’t be shocked if he was on the spectrum
£6m isn’t a bad prize fund - I’d probably just retire on that 😂
Fair play to Smith, but Zurdo & Benevidez have good claims on being the best at 168 too. We’ll see who comes out on top over the next year or two.
In some regards they do but I do think he has the most solid claim to being number 1 plus the ring belt
Wilder lost his pen, so Joshua is scared?
Interesting logic.
In his 19th fight Joshua fought Klitchsko.
In his 19th fight Wilder fought the 27th best Cruiserweight in Mexico.
Talk is cheap, look at the facts. There is only one warrior here.
No don’t use logic and reason it’s not fair. It’s all about who talks the loudest scrums don’t matter only words.
Bottom line is the belt doesn’t really mean **** if it’s made irrelevant by fighting less than stellar opposition. The man makes the belt not vice Versa. The wbc have embarrassed themselves in recent years by trying to leach on to any major event. The money belt and that cinco di mayo piece of **** being two examples.
I'm sorry but I don't care what you care about. Stiverne was #2 in the world according the the world's leading experts. Wilder beat him straight up. If you want to rewrite history, you're only fooling yourself.
Who are the worlds leading experts in your eyes? If you truly believe stiverne was the second best active heavyweight at any point in his career you need to put me in touch with your weedman
Wilder beat the #2 fighter in the world for his title. AJ beat the #9 fighter in the world for his title.
Wilder's title has the longest lineage. AJ's titles were all vacated by Fury.
Thank you for your opinion. Unfortunately, the entire sport revolves around the belts. So they only mean nothing in the sense that life means nothing, but in the sport of boxing, the belts mean everything.
You're rewriting history. AJ was handed a belt by fighting a bum. Wilder earned his belt by fighting the #2 guy in the division.
AJ's promoter refused to allow Wilder to fight AJ next. That's not Wilder's fault.
AJ asked for 50 million and was given 50 million, but still ducked the fight.
50 million would be the highest purse in heavyweight history.
I’m sorry but I don’t care if you’re number 2 in the world if your best win is cris arreola. And you lose to a journeyman like demitrius king. As far as I’m concerned he hasn’t really done anything to set himself apart from the likes of Charles Martin. At least Martin hasn’t lost to a journeyman before You can keep repeating it as much as you want but deep down you know stiverne is trash.
All of AJ's belts belong to Tyson Fury who has never lost in the ring. AJ is not a real champion.
I predicted this when he turned pro. The more successful one becomes the more haters thou shalt attract. It’s in the bible somewhere.
