Against most top or notable dangerous adversaries evena lower level fighter Usually fights them harder and in title fights...its almost always the case and when it happens the guy( the champion who expected to win easy) gets punished...lol
I know Povetkin was slim and very fast more then usual, forget 39 bc I haven't seen him have to actually not just get in/out on shots like that but keep a 6'6 aggressor off him in the process....
Povetkin had Vlad Sirenko ( I consider him to be the most dangerous future top guy) AND Duboius helping him prepare....Joshua did not actually have a Povetkin like sparring partner....
Povetkin had a killers row and still Joshua ( to me ) seemed to coast ) and knew he could end it when the time is right by 6 rounds over which is a LONG time against him.
You have to be a dominator to defeat Joshua ultimately and ones fighting tonight..( Joyce) who barely gives up rounds .
Four dominators today in top 10 spots...are
Ortiz,Joyce,Miller, Fury....
These guys don't lose rounds and seldom if ever behind in fights thus far ,but these are the guys posing style threats more then others..in millers case,a more difficult fight but will give Joshua more target to K.O bc he just comes forward and is heavy footed, Ortiz a southpaw( easier for Joshua,Joyce ( slow in defense), and Fury not a power puncher...all have things Joshua will capitalize on .
Yup. The more things one can do in the ring the better and joshua is learning to do more as he goes along. I think he did what he should have with Povatkin, its all built into the strategy, Even knowing you won't lose rounds if you start slow and cautious...which was not a bad idea. It shows confidence to bring your weapons on line patiently. It shows professionalism.
Pressing Joshua would only force more aggression from Joshua..
Watching the fight several times I had Povetkin missing more and more and Joshua in complete control of the fight where he dicated the pace even in a close fight( I had it even bf rnd 7...
the thing is the thread has a major hole in it...
Povetkin would have lost a 7/10 round in round 7 and Joshua was starting to apply more pressure as he didn't really give up center ring much beyond stepping back when povetkin threw flurries beyond two that connected solidly the entire time.
I don't believe Povetkin was in any position to charge Joshua beyond round 3 when Joshua dropped his left which showed he had gaged Povetkins distance inviting him to throw more shots...
ultimately Joshua was going to land that right hand it stunned him but the left hook is what did Povetkin in which he wasn't going to recover from...no way, he went down again after that ,I didn't see this fight lasting beyond 7 and I actually picked that round.
Looking happy? Therse guys when they realize how good Joshua is..is usually the response. a defeated fighter knows when he has just fought a superior one.
Thats the thing, Povatkin was never going to do anything. Maybe under the most auspicious circumstances imaginable for Povatkin, if he somehow found a way to last the fight, this would have been against all logical evidence of past performance. For that reason, if he really wanted to try to win, as difficult as it would have been, jumping early when he had some success was his option. And I mention the judges because, lets take an even more remote possability, that somehow Povatkin could win rounds...wasn't happening, whether because of the judges, the impossability of the task... just was not happening. Povatkin had to find a way to jump early, much as Sanders did with Vlad, under different circumstances of course.
As far as the fight progressing, when joshua held his hand low it made Povatkin have to gauge where the jab was coming from, and all Joshua had to do, and what he did do, was to start to throw that jab and assert his reach and keep Povatkin back. That was when the fight effectively ended.
if AJ didn’t have that power he would of lost smh
Same for Wilder. Same for tons of fighters. Applying that power is a skill. The power wasnt the issue it was the size in combination with the skill and power.
On topic. Yeah it seemed he was on the way to a robbery. Joshua was finding him in those last two rounds but I thought it was Povetkin the first rounds and quite clearly from what I recall. Povetkin hit him with some shots that would have slept him had he been bigger and more powerful. But that’s fantasy land. Reality is he was much smaller and weaker. Good showing, great heart. Props to both.
uppercut510;19139012]well of course he would have got jobbed, there is no future nor money in a 40 year old 2x ped cheat who isn't on social media, good thing AJ didn't let it get to that point, the threads would have been endless. I had it 4-2 for ped man but as I predicted the KO came

It would have been yet another robbery defended once again by those claiming "there were some close rounds".
A robbery is when the wrong guy wins and the cards reflect an obvious bias that is usually predictable. It hasn't got to be an overwhelmingly bad decision like Chavez/Whitaker or Williams/Lara, it just has to be bad enough to rob a fighter of a deserved win.
Do you, the plural "you" sometimes said "youse" in certain parts of Brooklyn before the hipsters...think giving Joshua every round would have shocked Povatkin's corner? Do you think short of knocking AJ down Povatkin would possibly get a decision as corrupt as boxing is?
Povatkin seems to like Joshua. I think he went in knowing that he was not going to get a decision no matter what he did. Seems to me Povatkin accepted this, for better or for worse...
I actually think the boxing gods threw Povatkin a curve ball. He had Joshia looking cold and could have went for it instead of taking his foot off the gas, which is what he did. If he really intended on winning that fight then when he had Joshua confused he would have thrown everything he had... Instead he boxed rounds knowing that he would not win these rounds according to the judges, no matter what he did.
Im not capping on Joshua either, just saying. Povatkin looked happy and all to willing to get starched at an appropriate moment.
AJ won 2 rounds MAX. 5-1 to AJ is such obvious corruption, but i expect nothing less from Hearns golden goose these days. But then again Wilder was ahead agaisnt Ortiz/Washington/etc when he was clearly losing so...
