Agreed on Pavlik too, but that's why Calzaghe should have taken it. Low risk high reward but Hopkins ended up getting it instead. Blunder from Joe who's career is quite dire already.
Hopkins beating Pavlik and then going on to be relevant at the top for few more years made the Hopkins win for Calzaghe look far more legit than it did at first anyway so i'm not that sure Joe needed the Pavlik fight to make his legacy much greater. Most likely would have been seen in a similar light to the Lacy victory.
I do think Calzaghe has an average resume overall though, too many missed opportunities between 1999-2005.
I just want to see the fight.
That is all that really needs to be said across all these *****ing threads about money.couldn't give a **** just get it on.
Guy is well over 40 now and been inactive for a year.although defeated wasn't embarrassed in his farewell show and went out on his sword passing on the batton the next top man in line. Its how it should be, and Wlad himself took enough time to think about the rematch and came to the same conclusion.
My opinion is he would get brutally KO'd by Joshua and Wilder at this point so i hope he doesn't even consider it.
Ali did lose some fights to lesser fighters compared to Wlad
Ali lost a few fights to lesser fighters when he was absolutely shot.
He wasn't losing and getting sparked out by the likes of Ross Purrity, Corrie Sanders and Lamont Brewster in his prime.
Wilder is a bum with no skills.no way he would have kept AJ at bay like Parker managed tonight and all would be on him landing a wild right hand. He is a 6/1 under dog for me and all that is based on him hitting the jackpot and landing because he can't fight for ****.
I know many people will not be able to agree through their own agendas but Joshua never got out of second gear tonight because he didn't have to.Parker is a throw back Durable guy but limited because he lacks real power. I would give Parker a good chance of beating Wilder though who lacks the skills to keep him away all night.
It was clear from the first round Parker was in to see out the 12 and survive for a respectable defeat.you could see he didn't believe he could win the fight and AJ just boxed it smart for the easy points win. Could he have taken more risks and gone for the K.O? Probably, but he didn't need to get ragged and leave himself exposed when he was he was so far ahead after the first half of the fight.
I imagine AJ will just tell Hearn to get the fight made now. He has stated his goal is to unify and the chance to do so could be in a few months time.its too good a chance to pass up for both men.
Peak 92' Bowe would steam roll Wilder inside 4 rounds, That Bowe would have given any HW in history a tough night. I would give Wilder an outside chance against an out of shape Bowe who fought Golota but he would still be relying on finding the big shot, probably not too dissimilar to the ortiz fight.
AJ has been at world level for not much over 2 years yet his top 5 wins are quite impressive, very impressive compared to Wilder who has 2 guys and not much else.
He is far from done and in a far better position than he was before he got the late call for June 1st.
He has an excellent chin and will provide stiff competition for almost all the top heavies. He is ultimately too small though when coming up against the really tall guys.
He was way over rated after the first fight anyway. Reality has finally dawned on many and it's nice to see.
Ruiz is a decent heavyweight who has a good chin and can bang at close quarters given the chance but no more than that.
Ruiz has always been a fat bastard.he will always be a fat bastard.
But i'm sure the narrative moving forward will be that in the june fight he was some sort of svelte light on his feet reincarnation of Ali who turned into jabba the hut overnight for the rematch.
I think Peak tyson is a myth and he is way over rated but still would have put Ortiz away inside 2 rounds and Wilder would get banjo'd round the ring; probably pooped his pants and lost before getting in there with Mike like most did in the mid 80's.
I reckon you are probably right on dates and opponents.
Don't see AJ fighting either Fury or Wilder till 2021. There is a decent chance we could get Fury-Wilder 2 and 3 to take care of 2020 for those two.
Not relevant.
Needs to beat boxers of a higher level and standing than Washington to get back in the mix for a title. I personally don't think he is anywhere near good enough.
As said above, feed him to Wilder if he wants a nice confidence booster.
I doubt he was in much better physical shape tbh. Wlad was a consummate professional, he was in shape for every fight he ever had.
The Klitschko that Joshua fought had been out of the ring for years and was outboxed and humiliated in his previous fight, the version that Fury faced had barely lost a round in 12 years.
He took one year out due to being messed about by Fury, hardly 'years'.
It's also fair to say long time champ Wlad wasn't 100 percent focused and at it that night against Fury. Fury had fought nobody of note at that point and despite his antics in the lead up was expected to be a routine defence. Shame we never got the rematch.
This was a great fight and one of the most controversial endings of all time. one of those fights you can watch on a yearly basis and still enjoy it and see different things every time.
