What do you think of Charles Martin now?

I kinda said elsewhere... probably an underestimation of Martin - I mean the dude literally never beat anyone worth a damn, and the vain hope that Gerald might have enough left after seeing him beat Helenius even if he looked a bit shit right up to the KO. Thing is Gerald was once OK - never brilliant but a passable fringe top ten guy who had a coupla of fairly decent wins whereas Martin had never done anything except claim a default injury victory over Tsar Glazkov. It was always playing the odds though, I wasn't at all sure that Gerald would win - I just saw it as a much a 50/50 as you're likely to get on a bookies underdog and you gotta use your x5 somewhere. Mainly gutted cos looking forward to this weeks Pick Ems we got a pretty hot underdog in Chocolatito (vs Yafai) where I would much rather have spent my x5. Hindsight's always 20/20 though, as they say.:lol1: Yup Chocolatito is a live dog imo Put it this way , if you would of got it , you would of been looked upon as a genius Gambling is gambling lol

Martin may have made something of himself if he had not won the belt. That may not make sense but I think it gave him a sense of entitlement and caused him to slack. He's not an elite fighter but with proper training and discipline he could be a good scrap for most guys in the division.

My opinion is the same as it was before he beat Washington...very low.

I respect that he picked himself back up and is working his way back up despite losing to AJ and even to Kownacki Don't listen to fans and people on Social Media, put your head down and WORK and that is what he is doing despite all the money he made from the AJ fight. He could've packed it in and retired after that honestly

Martin will be knocked out again by anyone who hits his chin flush. The Washington knockout should not be taken as an example; Washington can't take a punch anymore. Martin is nice, but he's awkward and unbalanced. He does not exploit his strength correctly.

I predicted his win against Washington by a KO; very solid top 20 fighter. Wilder will fight that level of guys when Fury beats his ass again. I would love to see him against Breazeale and Ajagba.

I realize Gerald Washington is no longer in his prime, but no way was I picking Martin to KO him like that. And he was landing the biggest shots prior to the KO too. Does this change your opinion about him at all? Is he relevant in the HW picture? I think he is a decent fighter. Not a world beater but a competent "C+" to "B-" level heavyweight. He would actually be a decent test for Oleksandr Usyk in my opinion

My opinion on him is the exact same as it was prior to the fight. I expected him to KO Washington. I like Gerald, but his defense isn't up to par, and he has terrible recovery time when he does get chinned. Yeah Washington was not adjusting at all. Charles kept landing the left with mean intentions, was only a matter of time till he got a KO. I picked him to KO Washington in that very round so my opinion of him hasn’t changed. He’s a middle of the pack journeyman who might pull off an upset if someone has an off night. Would make for a great Wilder opponent if he comes to his senses and leaves this Fury business alone. Fair enough. I agree that would be a good comeback fight for Wilder. Martin is not a bad fighterbut he has some strong events that make him look bad.... The manner he won the title and how he lost it in 2 rounds to Joshua. He would give anyone outside of the top 3 a tough fight. He’s not a talented fighter but he’s not a bum either, he could be a top 15 guy with a few more wins. Sounds fair. He was still a sham champion but at least he's putting forth a respectable effort now, it seems. Martin VS Whyte or Ortiz would be nice. Probably loses but would be fun scraps. I would love either of those fights. But apparently this fight with Washington made him the IBF mando? That part I'm not crazy about.

I'll also add to this, that I don't see any special attribute that would give him a chance against a top heavyweight. I truly wish he proves me wrong, but I see a future gatekeeper in him :beerchug:

Still probably the worst HW champion of all time. A nice guy though, I met him during Canelo-GGG 2 fight week, he was cool.

Not relevant. Needs to beat boxers of a higher level and standing than Washington to get back in the mix for a title. I personally don't think he is anywhere near good enough. As said above, feed him to Wilder if he wants a nice confidence booster.
