Thats OK lacy was a HUGE favorite.. 7-1.. and I walked away with my wallet a little fatter:fing02:
um, where the hell were you betting. Every bookie and sports betting site i went to had Calzaghe a slight favorite over Lacy ... and if you're going to say crazy stuff, keep it reasonable .. 7-1? That's Taylor over Spinks level .. there's no way a bookie would give u those odds
More often than not, good boxers beat good sluggers. That is why I would take young Hopkins in this matchup. While I see the physical potiential in Urango, I believe his 'tyson' style is too one-dimensional for a lower weight fighter. This past fight wasn't the first time he got exposed, he squeeked out a draw a few fights prior.
On the other side, young Hopkins has looked more and more impressive with each passing bout. That last KO he had was one of the best of the year!
Griffin gave Jones trouble early in their first fight but Jones seemed to have figured him out by the middle rounds. There is no doubt in my mind that Griffin would have been stopped later in that fight had it not ended with the DQ. He was getting hammered up until that point. Getting massacred in one round in the next fight reinforces my belief.
With that said, Griffin in his hay day was a very good fighter, perhaps even 2nd tier good. His awkward style made him difficult to fight and he was good enough to beat Toney at least once... that's saying something
I wasn't aware this fight was going to happen, but if its true, props to Cotto for taking this fight. It's high risk/low reward. Quintana has a very legit shot at outboxing cotto for the duration of the fight
It was an extremely close fight and the fact that Quartey was dropped and nearly stopped in the final round, that's enough for me to score it for Oscar. It was a close fight, not the robbery as some suggest
On citywalk, there is a bar/arcade that shows PPV fights for free. Since half of it is an arcade, they allow you to loiter all you want and you dont have to buy a damn thing. The downside is that you have to pay the $10 parking for citywalk.
Commerce Casino has a bar that shows PPV fights as well, and depending on the magnitude of the fight, they may charge a cover. I know I went for the Mayweather-Judah fight and the cover was a ridiculous $15, but I also went for LAcy-Calzaghe and it was completely free. This is a good option if u call ahead, that way u know if there is a cover or not.
Also, its a bit further drive but San Manuel Casino shows the fights on their many LCD TVs all over the casino. It's also free as well, downside being its about a 45 minute to an hour drive from LA depending on which side of LA you're coming from. I've watched several fights there, great place to watch because its all over the place.
BTW Trinidad didn't struggle with top opposition, you may be thinking of ODLH who has fought the best but struggle with the best. Trinidad only has 1 controversial win against ODLH. Otherwise he destroyed or comfortably beat all his opponents including Compas, Oba Carr, Vargas and Reid, he didn't struggle with anyone other than ODLH until he went to middleweight.
The perception isn't that Tito struggles with top opposition, rather he struggles with top 'boxers' - guys that stick, move, and counter. Obviously, Tito got outboxed by Oscar, but his next fight he was outboxed by David Reid. Yes Tito ended up beating Reid like a rag doll, but it wasn't exactly a comfortable win as you suggest. Reid was boxing Tito's ears off for the first half of the fight until he got caught, then of course it went all downhill after. He was also outboxed by Hopkins and Wright, as a result the perception was formed
Toney looked very hittable against Rahman and I anticipate the same Toney to show up against Peter because frankly, I doubt Toney actually comes into 'better shape'. The Toney that beat Holyfield would school Peter, but the most recent Toney we saw will struggle mightily IMO. I think this fight will look much like the Rahman fight but with Peter coming out with a narrow UD.
i dont like excuses but u gotta admit, those accidental low blows had impeccable timing. The first one, Cotto was stunned, and a few seconds later, bam ...
if you think about it, the two rounds Zab won were the two rounds he ended up getting low blowed ..
Cotto wins a rematch though
i know its too late but for future reference, they always show the fights at that bar/arcade in citywalk (forget the name but its the only arcade there), no cover but of course there's that $10 parking ... they also always show fights at San Manuel casino, also no cover and free parking, but a bit of a drive... They have it at the bar at Commerce Casino too, but they charge a $15 cover and the food is crap.
While Roy obviously isnt what he used to be, I dont think his skills and abilities are as shot as people make them out to be. It's his confidence that is shot. however, fighting a guy who he has already beaten (rather easily too), I dont think Roy goes into this fight 'scared' as he did in his last couple fights. With that said, he shows flashes of his old self and pulls a UD over Woods - if this fight were to actually happen of course...
However, i agree that this fight means little to either fighter except going out with a win (RJJ) and revenge (Woods)
Yeah, Montell Griffin put a schooling on him. Go watch it with an open mind.
nah, it was a close fight and then Jones knocked Griffin down a couple of times ... that's hardly a schooling ..... jones struggled more than usual, but getting 'schooled' is a bit over the top, dont u think??
Does anyone get the feeling that Roger is intentionally trying to sabotage a Jr and Sr reconcile. It sure seems that way to me, that he really doesn't want them to really be in good terms and i bet he's brainwashing Floyd against his father .
calzaghe is an incredible fighter, dont get me wrong, but he always says he wants to fight everyone, and then goes out and fights no one. I'll believe it when i see it
come on DLH, you haven't been boxing for a year and you're going to make excuses now?
i just read that article and i didn't see oscar making excuses .. care to elaborate? am i missing something?
It just seems oscar is saying he felt he won the fight and why ... i dont see him giving any excuses for losing
Believe it or not. DLH made the fight interesting. If it wasn't for him the fight would have been wack. YOu think Mayweather would be going after Oscar? Not really. The fight was good I liked it. Even though DLH lost it's all good. He still a great fighter IMO. I knew Floyd would win, but I wanted Oscar to win.
Many people were stupid to think that Floyd would run down or even DOMINATE DLH.
Wasn't the crowd yelling bullshit once Floyd was announced the winner?
i share the same sentiment. It reminded me of Rocky Balboa , just less hollywood. Where the overmatched veteran fighter did better than a lot of people would have guessed, but ultimately loses a split...
Suico has some pop, but Diaz is much more skilled and savy. I'm a big fan of Diaz - I enjoy his made-for-tv style and he displays the humbleness you can appreciate in a young hungry fighter.
He's only 21-22 years old and still a youngster. Once he grows into his body and develops more power - as it seems he's gradually doing - he will be a force. My only concern for the kid is the amount of fights he has had at such a young age. He might be finished before he hits 30 years old.
floyd continually referring to Oscar as 'the Golden Girl' isn't exactly clever shit talking. At least Oscar is stating the obvious, Floyd is trying to be funny and failing ... to me that's a bit more sad ...
