I voted other. I expect him to lose around age 35 once his reflexes start to slow down. Probably not to one of those fighters listed though... they will all be past their prime at that point.
"The US is made up virtually entirely from immigration. I`m not aware of any ranked american indian boxers."
I can only think of ONE country in the entire world that isnt made up of immigrants by this logic... probably some place in Africa where human life began.
You're an idiot.
This is such a vague poll it's tough to give an answer. I voted no simply based on the Sugar Shane fight. It seemed like when Shane stepped up the pressure Cotto was losing rounds. I felt like if shane had a tad more power he could have stopped Cotto. The thing is, every fighter is susceptible to certain types of pressure. EVERY fighter...
So far no one's really looked great against Cotto though.
"I'll work on somethings adjust and I'll work on that type of STYLE that Andrew has and be better than ever....OK I guess I'll be 11-1."
HAHA what type of style is that the windmill style?
HaHa. yea, I couldnt stop laughing at that too. That Hartley guy reminded me of Arnold Horsehack from Welcome Back Cotter fighting Screech!

I think Joe Green, Khan, and Andy Lee are the only can't miss prospects i know of. Although I know I'm missing a lot... prospects arent my specialty in Boxing knowledge. Maybe it's just me but I wasnt sold on Gamboa. I think he's just too old to make the adjustments that will turn him into a legendary fighter. He'll be a Quintana at best I think.
Foster was definitely worst, but both sucked in the nights we're talking about. Joe Cortez isn't always bad though. i thought he did ok in the Calzaghe Hopkins fight
I dont understand how he would lose all credibility. If he can easily make a lower weight he SHOULD be fighting at that lower weight. Mayweather should be at 140 anyways... it's about time he goes back down. That's like saying Cotto loses credibility if he doesnt jump up to MW to fight Pavlik...
They were actually fairly honest. Paulie and Hatton each put on rather boring/lame performances. I thought they were criticizing Paulie too...? Talking about how he was standing right in front; moving in straight lines; not working angles; and basically just not fighting a smart fight. I kind of liked the honesty about the fighters weak performance.
Chemistry between them is terrible though. they also dont offer any insight to boxing that an average fan doesnt already know. For example I really like when HBO gets a trainer (like Manny Steward) because he can give some info I would have never even thought of.
Remember it's Versus though... they dont have HBOPPV budget.
"I just think a lot of you guys dont know who Lazcano is."
This is true. The average boxing fan doesnt even know who Lazcano is. Which is why it's pathetic that Hatton got rocked by him and nearly KO'd in the 10th
The ref did it in Round 1 as well. Ricky got hit flush and the ref stepped in and seemed to clean Ricky's glove or something just to buy Hatton some time.
Ricky would have won either way, dont get me wrong. I just hate when refs interfere in the action. This isnt going to help attract many more big fights overseas...
Is there some way we can clone Steve Smoger? Lol
"amazing time to notice it... its such bullshit.. stop tryin to make sarcastic comments when you know what really went down... they dont need to stop action for someting like that at a moment in the fight where a guy is gettin battered on.."
Co-sign. His laces were undone before Ricky got rocked...
If I was Lazcano I wouldnt have gotten off the stool for round 11. What's the point in fighting if the ref is going to stop it every time Ricky was wobbly and ready to go.
I am hereby betting my soul upon Joe Calzaghe to defeat Bernard Hopkins. I am looking for another poster to bet their soul. First come first served.
If you acquire my soul, you are permitted to command my death, which I will gladly accept if Joe is to lose.
Thank you.
I can't help but think of The Simpson's episode when Bart sells his soul to Milhouse. Lol.
I did throw some money down on B-hop though just because I thought the odds were good enough. Im split down the middle on who will win this. I really think it's close to a 50/50.
I think Cortez is now officially my least favorite ref. I dont think its a case of bias against Brits though, he just has to have attention on himself no matter what.
I think he gave it away. He could have beaten Joe if he had the courage to exchange. But he didn't. Hopkins has the skill but not the heart
I honestly feel like B-hop fought the best fight he could have at this stage in his career. I mean he is 43...
I think it's shocking that he was able to beat Winky, Tarver and bang with JT.
Just based on the quality of opponents he faces I wouldnt question his heart
Anybody going to Vegas for Mayweather-Oscar 2? I tell u the truth..I dont care all that much about the fight...but I like the EVENT of a fight like that in Vegas..so I am planning on heading out with eight or ten other guys from the gym...anybody else going???
I went to a Friday Night Fights in Boston a year ago and I remember this little kid was passing out these pamplets/leaflets talking about the legendary trainer John Scully. I wonder if this is the same guy. It was so long ago... I think he was Mike Oliver's trainer...
Anyways, I would definitely go if I could get a ticket to the event for less than a fortune.
I used to live just outside of Hartford CT. and before I left town, I saw this guy named Kevin Johnson (aka Kingpin) fight on the undercard for the Elvir Muriqi (spelling?) vs. Tarver fight. He seemed to have all the tools to be the next great american heavyweight. He had no real power, but excellent defense and an outstanding jab. I really think he would destroy Calvin Brock. Anyone seen him fight since then? maybe it was just me, but I thought he looked legit at the time.
Yea, I know he would get destroyed by Vlad. Vlad is really good. I was just saying he has the potential to be the best american heavyweight. Only seen him fight once though. and his opponent totally sucked, so its tough to judge him too much.
I like watching Sultan, Vlad, Peter at heavyweight. Im starting to wonder if Chad Dawson might be able to put on some weight later and make a move to heavyweight. (representing the old hometown Connecticut, heh) He's only 25 and normally males fill in at about 28 years old.
I would be willing to pay up to retail $55 if I could get a reliable stream from HBO, but unfortunately they dont do it... Has anyone used that watchboxinglive site? looks kind of shady. Are they just providing a sopcast link?
Is he black with big white eyes? :)
Of couse, hah. That's why I named him. Well technically he's not MINE. He roams the apartment with his skinny gray cat friend (Ive named the skinny cat Floyd :) )
Thank You!!!
I just moved to Ireland from the US a few months ago. I have BASIC cable so I never even watch the television. I just remembered RTE is one of the like 12 channels I get, :). (Its on RTE2) Im so excited, this is the first program I will be able to enjoy here :) :)
I saw it in theaters when it first came out. It was 8 years ago so I was about 15 or 16. I was not a boxing fan really at the time and thought it was WAY too long.
I've become a huge boxing buff since then and now love to read about the history of the sport. So now I think the movies too short, hah.
Biggest problem with the movie is I'm a Toney fan and I can't help but root for him at the MSG fight. :) I love when he lands the 'left hook from hell'
EDIT:
I forgot to mention this in my original post. But if you haven't seen "When we were Kings" it's an EXCELLENT movie about the Ali v. Foreman fight.
