I just think a lot of you guys dont know who Lazcano is.
Long layoff for Lazcano, but after a few rounds he looked like he did against Harris.
Good, VERY strong fighter.
Hatton had Lazcano hurt a bunch of times, i dont remember the last time i saw Lazcano in trouble, and Harris is a big time puncher.
The Round 10 stuff was bullshit though. British announcers and refs are incredibly biased. I cant wait to hear the British commentary, they were probably rediculous.
And while i gave Lazcano 2 rounds, i dont think a shutout is at all rediculous. I mean the round he got hurt in, he came back and hurt Lazcano. And in round 8 when he was also shook up, he came back and hurt Lazcano twice more so...
Agreed. But putting them against each other in an HBO fight sure does make sense.
I think that both guys have problems of their own to figure out before the cash out from a boxing standpoint. For Malignaggi's sake I'm sure he wouldn't want to pass up the opportunity to make a 7-figure payday, especially when his hands aren't going to allow him to have too many fights. Besides Jerson Ravelo I've never seen a hand so badly disfigured.
Hatton might find Malignaggi's recent vulnerabilities attractive for him at this stage of his career. The fight might be off if Malignaggi broke his hand because he's going to need an extensive rehab, though I'm not sure what kind of recovery can be made for him at this stage of his career, taking into account how numerous his injuries have been.
I know Lazcano well, I just wasn't impressed by Hatton's performance. Lazcano was good as a lightweight because of his physical size against 135 pounders, but he hasn't been the same since the Castillo fight.
Let's not forget, Lazcano was almost blown out early by Vivian Harris in his last fight 15 months ago. If not for Harris' 3 round gas tank, Lazcano could have been stopped early.
Hatton showed a lot of courage and desire, but he wasn't closing the distance as fast as he used to. He was coming in from too far out without a jab and was giving Lazcano the opportunity to time him.
Neither Malignaggi or Hatton looked good enough for me to want to see them in any kind of super fight.
Agreed. But putting them against each other in an HBO fight sure does make sense.
I actually think there is a large noticable difference. He is ALOT more aggressive and rushes forward giving Tzyzu NO time to think or time that big right hand, he avoid more of the punches but the most noticable thing is his chin in that fight IS SOLID, Kostya hit him with some BIG right hands and Hatton didn't even move.
He did not give Lazcano much time to think either, most of the fight was spent in close.
Lazcano of course is a better inside fighter than Tszyu and had a lot more success at a close distance. Too bad Lazcano didn't have much stamina left in the tank.
Hatton's chin has always been solid and still is but he takes an accumulation of punishment in every fight because he leaves himself way too open when he comes in.
Eventually it was going to catch up to him and it did against a class fighter who took advantage of it perfectly, Floyd Mayweather.
The only diminished thing that I've noticed about Hatton is his stamina but he seemed to have a good amount of it left today. He still has handspeed and footspeed which will make him a tough opponent to beat.
I'm not saying he is at his best as a fighter but he is not much different from what he was 3-4 years ago.

Good post and good thread!
I completely agree.
I thought Nick Charles was unfairly negative about Hatton today, and so some observers may have been misled by that..
hatton made so many mistakes it wasnt even funny. i dont see how anyone can think he looked great. he was so open for that counter left hook, and he kept doing the same thing even after getting clocked with it. the announcers are such biased pricks that they would not say anythin negative about his perfprmance at all. the blind hatton fans will still think hes the real deal.
I thought Hatton looked good, he dominated the fight, I scored it 118-110 for Hatton...Lazcano is tough as hell for lasting 12 rounds.
Hatton took way too many shots, got hurt much more than he should've, and tired easily. Laczano is a concensus tomato can by Vegas and the promoters. Hatton was supposed to KTFO this guy. I like Hatton personally. But this is a fight that would have impressed me had it been between two up and comers on Friday Night Fights.
Not a great performance by any means but it was a solid performance after a loss and I do not feel as if he is a 'shot' fighter.
He won't be beaten in the LWW division IMO unless he faces a puncher and gets caught. Perhaps someone like Torres could do the job but Torres isn't all that either.
The way Hatton takes punishment in his fights does mean that he should retire quite soon. Not right now but in a few years.
Those who believe he is shot, how much different does he look in this fight?

Overall i think Hatton did well tonight and it must have built up some confidence his Stamina was improved and he was throwing alot but not as much as i have seen him throw in other fight and he lacked that killer instict when he did have Lazcano hurt.
Seriously, I'll download this fight and watch it again sometime and somebody can try to show me 1 spot in the fight where Lazcano is legitimately hurt.
I agree... his body language kind of looked hurt for a split second a couple of times when he took a flush shot. He backed up a bit, but then he threw a flurry and looked on completely steady legs. Any time that I originally thought he was hurt for split second, he more than proved me wrong by throwing back on steady legs.

i thought hattons punch selectiong was good and i thought he put some good gravy on his punches, i also thought that his output and aggression was good. hatton fought through some tought stuff to over come, there was a lot of pressure on him, and i also thought that it was a wise move to pick a fighter like lazcano, especially after a long layoff.
a couple of things i didn't like about hattons performance were his balance and his defense. i thought hattons balance was crap when he was throwing punches from the outside, he seemed to be leaning forward more than i've seen in his previous fights, if lazcano actually threw punches and countered hatton tonight, i think he could've really gave hatton a run for his money, if there was ever a time to jump on a guy after a loss and go for a win, it was this fight but lazcano kept his hands in his pockets and didn't take many if any openings. hatton won the fight but it was laborious and had he fought someone who was on top of their game even at lazcano's level (just right below world champ, he's been close) hatton would've lost and maybe even stopped. good win for hatton but i think this fight is what he needed to get him back his confidence. i think hatton beats malignaggi...............
I told anyone who would listen that Lazcano was a tough guy and that he'd easily go the distance. Hatton showed his limitations and will be criticized for this fight, but he deserves credit for beating a live opponent.
I think the flip side is (I also stated several times the good money was on this fight going the distance) was not that he beat a live opponent... but how the live opponent nearly beat him. You can look at the positives that he beat a solid fighter in Lazcano, but you can't ignore his huge shortcomings at different times during the fight.
No head movement, no defense on the outside, still a questionable chin, etc...
Not a great performance by any stretch of imagination, but a good showing, winning convincingly 10 out of 12 rounds.
Shame on the ref for round 10, specially since Hatton was in no need for any illegal help.
I just think a lot of you guys dont know who Lazcano is.

"I just think a lot of you guys dont know who Lazcano is."
This is true. The average boxing fan doesnt even know who Lazcano is. Which is why it's pathetic that Hatton got rocked by him and nearly KO'd in the 10th
I've seen Lazcano in the past and remember how he was considered by many to be the best 135 pounder in the world after Mayweather left. This Lazcano that we saw wasn't the same Lazcano.
I know Lazcano well, I just wasn't impressed by Hatton's performance. Lazcano was good as a lightweight because of his physical size against 135 pounders, but he hasn't been the same since the Castillo fight.

I don't want to piss on your parade or anything but Hatton had Lazcano in his back pocket for most of that fight.
Hatton played a game of chess tonight.
Winning the majority of the rounds easily doesn't negate anything I said. Just because he was controlling the fight doesn't mean he wasn't hurt or was hurting Lazcano.
If you want to debate with me fine, but don't just comment about air to me.
Great performance by Hatton IMO. Probably left himself open a bit too much though, a better fighter would have exploited that. On the whole though, he looked good.
Lazcano is one tough cunt for last those twelve rounds.
