Floyd don't get enough credit for moving up to Welter and even fighting at 154 instead he gets hated on for not fighting these fighters at that weight when he was chasing the money fights....if he attempted to fight them at a catchweight lord knows the flak he'd get, whereas Manny, who I do respect also, gets high praise for his antics when he's scared to just move up to the weight division of the fighter he wants to fight....Floyd never asked any fighter he was chasing to come down in weight he went up to face them and is even coming down a bit to face JMM who wanted to face him.
Sure Floyd hasn't fought the best at welter yet but no one here would have fought Cotto and Mosley when you had Hatton and DLH on the table and if you say you would you'd be lying. Remember Floyd has been in this game for a lot of time and had injuries so he wanted a rest from the spot we knew he weren't really retiring because he said before Hatton that he wouldn't fight calender year 2008 or 2009, but hes come back early and he clearly intends to fight JMM, Pac, Cotto and Mosley. Floyd clearly aint a pussy.
I like Ward but anybody that refuses drug testing is immediately shady to me. There is NO reason to ever refuse drug testing of any type in any sport! All athletes have a responsibility and onus on them to prove they are clean.
Drug testing is not about getting one up on your opponent in mind games or anything it is something that in all sports is a NECESSITY and all fighters should WANT to take the strictest form of testing necessary to ensure a clean fight and make sure that fights are safe as possible.
I'm not hating Danny because I was the few that had picked him to win. There is not out cry for this fight because Danny hasn't had that dominant killer performance. He has beaten Judah and Lucas in close fights
The point is that people were talking heavily about Lucas fighting Floyd and if he had beaten Garcia there would be even more talk of the fight and how "Floyd don't want it" etc and thats considering that Lucas fared worse vs Judah and also dropped a decision to Alexander...Matthysse would only have a punchers chance much like most Mayweather opponents in and around his weight class.
The disparity between the enthusiasm for Lucas fighting Floyd and Danny fighting Floyd is vast and just doesn't make sense considering the facts.
It's funny how soon as a fighter in and around 140-154 KOs someone they are the next God to beat Floyd and everyone is shook...I hated the way the Matthysse was being built up to be some sort of deity that Garcia was so scared of.
I have nothing against Lucas, but his fanboys made me like him less - even yesterday just before the fight there was a topic about how daft fighters and experts were for predicting that were picking Danny to outbox Lucas...I had money on Garcia and I'm glad Danny took care of business and I would love to see his dad continue to rub it in everyone's faces because his son was being dissed big time in the lead up to the fight.
This happens after every fight in and around 140-154...One guy dismantles another and all of a sudden Mayweather (who has nothing to do with the fight) would never fight that guy because that guy is a major threat.
I remember all the people bringing up how scared Floyd looked when Mosley stormed the ring after the JMM fight etc...what happened there? Same thing that always happens...
Honestly when people use Peterson as a barometer for someones potential performance vs Mayweather it makes me realize so many people don't appreciate just how good Floyd is! Not saying I don't want to see this fight or that Matthysse is a bum/has no chance...just that Mayweather is on a different level to 99% of the guys out there.
Matthysse definitely. People go on as if he is some unbeatable monster that killed all of the 140lbers and should be getting a shot at Mayweather et al.
Trout was getting hugely overrated pre-Canelo.
Haymon manages both so if a contract was drawn up they would both sign pretty much same day or else there would be no contract drawn up...
Can you show us proof of this contract existing? Fans are so impatient and quick to make topics like this to fit their agenda that one guy is ducking another
People all seem to forget Manny actually looked better than he has for a while and better than he ever has against Marquez in the fight before the KO.
I expect Manny to obliterate Rios in spectacular exciting fashion. TBH Manny will still be the most appealing fight after that because guys like Khan and Bradley have to rebuild (Tim been too quiet after the Manny "win") The 140 guys need to finish their match ups too.
He has fought Pacquiao 4 times and was concretely robbed in the 3rd fight. Finally he has an official victory over him. There is NO NEED for a 5th fight. He has proven multiple times he is on Pacs level and that he is far from scared of him so what does he have to prove now?
JMM and Pac should continue fighting other top guys
Pac beats Broner and the hype restarts for Pac v Mayweather...
I would like to see Broner fight Maidana and then target Khan and eventually earn a shot at Garca/Matthysse
I honestly would be shocked if Conte was to get involved in illegal drugs again, because he is sure to be under huge scrutiny.
That said did Dirrell take the tests vs AA? Because I saw all of AA's opponents mentioned apart from him.
OSDT needs to be implemented at all major title fights at the very least and I am glad that Sauerland push that cause. It needs to be made clear that cheating should not be tolerated, especially in a sport where people aim to hurt one another.
Tell you what bob since you like talking so much why dont we have a promoter vs promoter match between you and Oscar. I would pay to see that and its right on the same level of the vince mcmahon bull**** your trying to pull with a fight like this.
I'd prefer Schaefer vs Arum...do this **** celebrity deathmatch style on the undercard for May vs Pac.
'Rito hasn't been the same since Mosley beat that ass - since then he has had a couple of long layoffs and his eye broken by Pac. Cotto would have to do more than beat Mayorga and a broken Margarito to get back into my p4p top 10.
He looked great last night though!
Pac is confident in his abilities.
Why would he need more drug testing?
Only a very insecure and unconfident person would ask for additional testing.
At the end of the night it's skills that pay the bills. The other guy can roid up all he wants, but if he can't consistently hit you with speed and accuracy and if he can't prevent himself from getting hit then it's all useless.
I honestly find this sort of view shocking! Everytime these guys step into the ring they are putting their health/lives at risk for entertainment...why would you be FOR steroids or anything dangerously performance enhancing...why not endorse plaster or other illegal tricks? I mean let a guy load up his gloves with bricks...if he can't consistently hit you with speed and accuracy its useless isn't it?
he had the date before pac fought marquez so what is your point
Do you not recall that Mayweather is psychic...hence he knew drug testing would be enough of an issue to stop the fight happening and that Pacquiao would look unimpressive against JMM.
Why do you think he keeps posting winning betting tickets? I need to holla at him about this weeks lottery numbers.
Can't hate on Froch - at least he is starting to get the exposure he deserves, over here people have been more obsessed with Khan, Haye, Calzaghe and Hatton, but Carl is getting more and more shine as time goes on.
I wanna see JMM win a title at 140 and if possible 147 to be Mexcio's first 5 weight champ. Would love him to have a retirement fight with Morales in Mexico - think that would be a good one for Mexico...
In light of JMM-Pac III what do YOU put biggest emphasis on when judging a fight?
I tend to score who is landing the cleaner blows and is proving more accurate in addition to if someone seems to be dictating the proceedings.
I tend not to score workrate unless it is EFFECTIVE workrate, i.e. landing a high percentage of shots.
I was using that boxing scorecard app while watching - I had it 116-112 JMM...devastated that he won't at least get accredited an official win over Pacquiao as he definitely deserves AT LEAST one!
Marquez dictated the pace and fought with discipline that I always believed would be key to him ever beating Pac. His tendency to get caught up in a slugfest is what has seen him get knocked down in the past and he curbed that over zealousness this time.
I honestly didn't believe JMM would be as effective this time around, but boy was I proven wrong!
Dinamita is a legend that deserves everybody's respect
I'm sorry but these corrupt bastards are doing everything they can to ruin the sport! That is a disgrace I had it 116-112 Marquez...he was easily in control. Manny and his team knew he had lost and were consoling themselves at the end. That is shocking! JMM deserves better than that and he should have at least 1 official win over Pacquiao. I feel so disgusted and bad for Marquez. A true warrior who proved me wrong tonight and showed himself to be the same guy that fought in the first 2 bouts.
Ortiz and Maidana rematch needs to happen regardless! That is action!
I personally think they should all fight each other...thats how the best stories are made and thats what these young guns need to realise...just fight each other and create a legacy. If they were to do that they will be much more remembered in the future. If these 4 along with Khan and Bradley can have multiple fights vs each other that would be awesome!
Shane was a 4-1 underdog and his struggle with Mayorga was at 154, which explains that more than anything.
I honestly don't see how Oscar would even think of such a plan he probably has so much other more important stuff to be doing than planting wraps...
I also think that whole excuse of "the wraps were on the table already" is absolutely shocking! What sort of experienced trainer would pick up some random wraps that were on the table and start wrapping their guys hands? Come on now!
Coming into such a huge fight who would be that dumb? and to not scrutinise those wraps also? No chance!!
Oscar was just trying to cherry pick Cotto that's all there is to it IMO.
Threads like this and comments like that stuff about Peterson being able to pressure Floyd into submission makes me believe people may be watching Mayweather, but not actually SEEING what is going on the ring.
