Partly for the same reason that there are so many Mexican champs in boxing: culture. The Chinese don't have nearly the same interest in boxing as some other countries. Why aren't there any great Mexican gymnasts at the Olympics? With their massive population, China would have quite a few world champs if they cared about boxing the way Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and Cubans do. so in other words it has nothing to do with the size of the population, but how much interest there is in the country.
