I know the kid is 21 but how is someone with 39 pro fights "green". in his case age is irrelevant, you could be 25 with 20 pro fights. i could be wrong but i've never in my life(im kinda young)heard a fighter with 39 pro fights called "green". seems like only when your about to fight floyd your "green", just like ortiz was. i guess floyds fights have to start comming with 28 year old age minimums. sh*t is crazy.
point is im looking for a rational explanation. after all im not an expert i could be wrong.
Erislandy Lara
Canelo vs Lara would be a great fight for both of them, to legitimize they're careers. If Lara won he gets a title, if Canelo won he shows he should not be underestimated.
Its because in the 21st century you're "green" until you lose and then when you lose you're "exposed" and if you lose twice you're "A shell of himself" or "past your prime" which oddly enough is reference to when you were "green"...
Boxing is hard...
Canelo is a much more well rounded boxer then Kirkland. Kirkland has looked questionable for more than just then just his last fight. Canelo has a Much better chance at getting bigger fights because of hos status in the Mexican community, his age, and dominance as being an undefeated fighter. You cannot rate Chavez,Jr. With Alvarez because of Alvarez's offense is not stop and he is learning with each fight.
And of course GR, Jr has a much more extensive back round in amateur fights. He was an Olympic Fighter, who sadly messed up his chance at getting a medal. There have been many boxers who never had an extensive amateur career, including in Mexico. It's not unknown. Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., Sergio Martinez, Marquez, Morales, and many more.
Floyd wouldn't hear the end of it if there was a guy out there to fight but he broke down the guys background like that..."um well he doesn't have any amateur experience so I'm not going to fight him"...I understand both aspects but if every top guy dissected every opponents background, we would either have a lot more so called "ducks", guys not breaking records as far youngest champs or more good fighters fighting for vacant titles instead of getting a crack at the big dogs!!
he's 21 years old
green is a reference to fruit
not ripe
canelo needs/has needed time
not just fights
time
he's getting there.
he's not fast and he's easy to hit, but the kid is a very good looking offensive fighter. nice technical puncher. it's a shame he uses winning gloves, because the kid can crack.
only thing green about him is the green in the Mexican flag
Come on Larold u know better than that. He is green cause he hasnt step up to the elite level and is being well protected by his promoter. He hasn't step up to the elite level and shinned like Floyd and manny did and have continued to do.
come on homie name another fighter in the last decade that was champion and had 39 pro fights that people called "green". you have to admit that the possibility of him fighting mayweather is a factor in people calling him green.
What is with people today? Is everyone expecting Floyd to fight Alvarez and thinking of reasons to pretend it's a great fight for Floyd to take?
Canelo is GB's cash cow. Is he green?..not sure is he overated I think so. He is exciting to watch, strong, and has fast hands. But he lacks head movement and tends to commit a little to much to his punches. Golden Boy knows that Floyd would play with Canelo, but its a win win situation if he looses people can say well he is young and he went up againts the best and lost, instead of putting him in with say Martinez or Kirkland who might expose his flaws and his stock will go down.

maybe people think he's a Martian not a Mexican. Americans have a reputation for not being too great with geography!!:rofl:
lol what does all that crap you wrote even mean?
Point is Floyd doesn't give 2 shyts about fighting the best fighters NO ONE disputes that. Hence its irrelevant how "deserving" Canelo is since Floyd isn't going to fight the most deserving opponent any way.
Ok. Let me simplify it for you.
Floyd has nothing to prove anymore, he's the guy, he's come up, beat who he's had to beat, and is at the top of the sport. He can choose who he wants, where he wants, when he wants.
Canelo has not, and this is why HE's challenging Floyd, not the other way around. Simple. Floyd can CHOOSE to fight Canelo, but it doesn't make him deserving. He's unproven and needs to prove he belongs in there with the best. There's a reason NOBODY (that I've seen) thinks Canelo beats Floyd...I wonder what gives us that idea..
There's no way you're this dense. I don't mean to be rude, but come on bro.
I'm going to sleep. <__<..I fell into your trap card. I'm sitting here debating with you on two different threads.
Are you implying Floyd hasn't earned his stripes? Lara has and therefore Floyd should seek him out? Because we all know Lara to be indisputably the best at 154, likewise for Canelo? Canelo, Lara, etc haven't proved anything compared to guys like FLoyd, Pac, Cotto to a lesser extent. You don't go "Hey, I should move up in competition. I WANT FLOYD MAYWEATHER! I DESERVE FLOYD MAYWEATHER!" Meanwhile....you haven't even tried to earn the honor of being remotely close to the best in your division.

He's not green, but he has not fought the level of competition that I expect from a fighter that is 39-0 and making his 4th title defence. Still he fought better comp than Chavez Jr.
LOL what you're saying only makes sense if Floyd gave a shyt about fighting the best competition. Floyd clearly doesn't or else Floyd himself would be fighting guys like Lara

I agree, I hate the whole spew about him being too green and yada yada. He has nearly 40 fights, Andre Ward has 25 and is already racking up quite the resume (yes I'm aware of his amateur credentials, Canelo has 15 more pro fights than him). Wilfred Benitez fought Cervantes for a world title at age 17, so I don't see why people should bring his age up.
Really though, I think after Mosley it's all going to be a hard journey to travel for Canelo. He'll probably get Mayweather or Kirkland in the fall, and possibly Cotto next year or Lara or Ortiz. We're really gonna find out if he's a hype job or the real deal in the upcoming years (if we don't find out by Grandpa Mosley).
lol Andre Ward is 7 years older than Canelo
The number of pro fights mean nothing the greatest Mexican fighter of all time Julio Cesar Chavez had 43 pro fights and was 22 before he fought his first "dangerous opponent"

Lmfao. Somehow you've managed to twist everything I said around. I'll forgive your ignorance.
He doesn't deserve Floyd. He needs to be fighting guys like Kirkland, Lara, etc. It's not about weather he moves up in competition or not. It's more like he needs to FIGHT some competition, period to deserve a shot at Floyd. Earning doesn't equal stepping up, bro. Different things.

I like Alvarez. He has power and fine technique and he comes to fight. I'm just as interested as seeing his fight on May 5th as I am in seeing the Mayweather fight. Truth be told, I might be more interested in his fight because I know he's coming to take Mosley down, and Mayweather, I suspect, will fight to win a points decision.
I don't buy the "green" label, either. I don't care if he hasn't faced elite competition at 21. 39 pro fights, where the opponent is also a professional fighter and is trying to beat you, is a learning experience. Sparring and training is a learning experience. I think it would be foolhardy to put a 20 year old fighter against elite competition. He is not emotionally or really physically matured yet. So, I find all the hate directed at Alvarez for not fighing so-called elite fighters by 20 or 21 to be very misplaced. His pace iand transition to bigger and better fights is exactly right.
That is retard logic either you want him to step up or you don't you can't pu$$yfoot saying he should step up a little but not all the way.
