All of their prospects are getting exposed lately it seems. And they don't have that many veterans at the elite level, Miguel Cotto being the lone exception.
Is boxing in a decline on the island?
Sadly, this is pretty accurate.
I sometimes wish we too had to sneak into this country. I suspect we would have a lot more friends in the latin american community. But, it is what is. :usa2::sad2::usa2:
Reported once again for racist comments!!
Rican prospects aren't focussing enough on defence. When they take a BIG step up in class, it's like they never learned head movement at all. I think a lot of island kids are more into drinking, smoking and sex these days..
and Puerto Rican pork ain't tainted like that argentenian beef
You know. Easy to be champ when The sanctioning body is mexican run. I appreciate all races in boxing. My dislikes and likes are not because of a persons race. People on here love talking **** bought PR cause we going threw a dry spell. Dudes got a few cubans and a few argentines and **** goes bananas lol. And of course there many more mexican boxers, you would hope some of them become champ.:buttkick:
Oh yeah and the Puerto Rican run WBO doesn't do the exact same thing?
Pfffft! More Boriqua excuses!!
With all the plaster/steroid heros being exposed... The real question is WHAT IS WRONG WITH MEXICAN BOXING.
Nothing wrong with Mexican boxing except for Boriquas making excuses for it's success. And again Luis Resto motherfuker!!! Everytime you bring up hand wraps just remember who started it and I already know what you are going to say! "Do you see any Puerto Rican's with Resto avatars or saying they are fans of resto". Of course not motherfuker he was a sad sack loser!!! a c level journeymen at best!! So shut you face about the handwrap nonsense because Boriquas were the grandfuking masters and originators of plaster of paris!
Sorry we can't all get free belts like Chavez,Canelo, and mares.

Na they're stepping up. It will happen to the prospects from anywhere. PR prospects are taking the biggest risks. Big props.
Cotto ain't no exception. PR prospects are taking bigger risks than him.
LMAO you must not like Cotto. If you followed his whole career, you'd know hes always taking risks. :poke:
nah bro...the Ricans that live on the island don't claim Danny...there's a thread on here where they was giving reasons why...but yea, I agree...the Rican-Americans should be counted as well, especially when BOTH parents are 100% Rican
This makes no sense especially when all Puerto Rican's are citizens of the same country!!! The United States of America lol!!!
I'm suprised bomba gonzalez didn't take a knee and quit like calderon props to him for taking his ass whupping like a man
Biased ass rican ref was helping him out doe
Had u been the guy to start this thread I could have understood why u went and dug this up but u didn't. So all this tells me is that you went looking and jumped at the opportunity to kick your favorite ppl while their down. How could I expect anything less from u. Smh
Quick question. Why do PR fans claim there's only 4 million people on their island so per capita they are doing well. Yet they also claim PR americans such as danny garcia. If you're going to claim danny garcia add the millions of PR americans as well right?

Say what you want about the state of Puerto Rico boxing today. But historically, they are probably the #1 exporter of elite world class boxers in a per capita sense.
Puerto Ricans have been to boxing what Samoans are to the NFL.
Historically, Cubans and a handful of European countries were never allowed to compete. Of course they had world class boxers, most of their competition came from the America(s)
You said there's 3 million something population in Puerto Rico.... Think of all the millions in America, as well. When you factor that in, it's really not THAT impressive (no hate) and the Samoan-NFL comparison doesn't make sense, IMO... Boxing is a global sport, in 2013 it really is world wide. American football is only practiced and played in America. Not like those Samoans are coming from New Zealand, those are like 3rd generation, Americanized Samoans lol.
Anyway, did Rosado loss his mandatory status to K9 by fighting GGG? I would like to see more of Rosado, he showed a lot of heart.
You can't compare PR to the world when it comes to that stuff. It has an unfair advantage and I'm sure you all know what that advantage is. Its the same reason why Mexico is so much into boxing and has so many champions compared to Central America, South America and the rest of the world. The answer is simple whether people want to admit it or not.
What advantage do you speak of?

Just curious, what is that advantage?
This is a very interesting thread. IMHO, the youth is not fully focused on the sport and I have to agree with BossH that looks, status has much to do with it. Let along the pollution of drugs, excess party and other distractions are more important than fully focusing on the sport which requires 100% attention.
I hope for the best!
War PR!
Puerto Rico is a grain of salt compared to the top boxing countries. We dont have much to choose from when it comes to any sport since we only have approx. 3.9 million people living at the island. Yet we have managed to become a meca on boxing, basketball, baseball just to name a few sports. Same goes with actors, singers and even a few Miss Universe.
We have produced the best of the best on just about everything when compared per capita vs the world. Nothing to be ashamed here we represent wherever we are. That goes for the good the bad and the ugly too.
Viva mi isla Puerto Rico.
