No sport benefits when skill is undervalued or is secondary to ahletecism. You can be the toughest, roughest hardest hitting fighter in the world, but if you can only win by ko you get situations like matthysse nonito or ruslan where you can really only match them against other brawlers/punchers. If you're a pure athlete you get a rjj siuation where once it goes he's done.
Networks love brawlers because they have a short shelf life which limits the amount you have to pay them over the long term. Ruslan will be in great tv fights but he has no chance to beat any really skilled fighters in and around his weight class. You can aslo pay him a relative pittance.
The biggest stars in the history of the sport have alwasy been highly skilled. There is a rrason for that.
He is coming of a win vs Bradley doe.
being rich doesnt make you a genius. If you dont know how to do your job you been do successful doing, move on and let some one else do.
He isnt the only rich idiot, im sure you can name a few. I could care less about his wealth and success, he isnt the only reason why he has it.
I bet you would promote Rigondeaux better than he could. How can a promoter complain about doing what the name of their title entails....PROMOTE
Hmm yeah.... Lets act like Ringondaux doesn't have a minimum payout per fight, you know that in order for a business to be successful there needs to be a profit right? Now tell me how do you make a profit when you are paying someone who has no fans 500-700k for a non ppv fight.
Someones wealth is a indicator of the value that person offers to society in one way or another, if Arum is a idiot what are you? Call him an assshole, a mother****er, curse him all you want but an idiot he is not.
Besides Floyd, I don't see anybody beating Thurman at 147. This is coming from someone who's never picked against Garcia.
thurman was getting outboxed by a unproperly trained fighter in his last fight.
Garcia by KO.
No I don't. I think the altitude of Denver makes it a better playing field or just about any place with high altitude. I think Alvarado can use his experience of training and fighting in high altitude to his advantage in a fight that sounds so one-sided. To even up the playing field. The high altitude might be a test for Pacquiao.
Pacquiao often trains Baguiao in the Phillippines which has a elevation of 5,280 ft exactly the same as Denver.
Canelo wanted Floyd. Floyd said no.
:unitedsta
Well to their defense, even I would fight Floyd with 3 hours of training and not care about the outcome since I will be a lot more richer after the fight.
There's a big difference in fighting Floyd for 15+ million dollars and fighting Trout for a fraction of that.
Boxing is a business, Trout has no marketability and was picked exclusively because through research of Canelos management he has been selected as a beatable opponent.
You guys thinking Trout will win are going to lose your money, do you really think Canelos management will throw him against someone who they believe will be a problem?
Canelo by KO\TKO
Today 2 posters taught me that Esteban DeJesus is/was better than Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Unreal.
Well you are only as good as who you beat, and DeJesus beat Duran & Cervantes, how does Floyd top that?
A prime Vargas would be the undisputed light middle weight champion right this moment and will go the distance with light middle weight HOF's like Hearns, Benitez, Winky Wright and so on.
Rios? well he is struggling against the Alvarados of this world, there's nothing to debate here.
Olesegun ajose took a massive beating by matthysee, any other fighter wont last 3 rounds. Same with the beating chavez gave taylor in their first fight.
No competition brah.. a prime Judah gives a good fight to anyone in the history of the sport win or lose.
Berto is in his prime right now, he was just never any good to start with. Just another hyped up fighter who fought bums and got found out when he moved up in competition.
I hope not.
If Judah and Alexander did well enough to get themselves split decision victories (albeit robberies) then you know that Floyd will do it even better and reduce Matthysse to a stumbling mess, like Guerrero.
I know the hype is on Matthysse like GGG, but if one wants Floyd challenged, this guy isn't it. I still haven't seen him destroy a Black boxer yet. Not even Zab Judah who is known to get KTFO.
Hmm so Peterson is mexican now
Absolutely he could. I believe that he came very close to beating Thurman. I saw several punches thrown with KO written all over them that missed Thurman's beard by a whisker. If he had connected it would have been a short night and Chaves would be a budding star just like that. I think the loss will actually make him a better fighter now.
D
What's weird is that his brother (his trainer) told him "You have to fight, You didn't come here to party" in the corner during the 8th or 9th round. He might of been partying the days leading to the fight and that only happens when you have a ****ty training camp and not take what's in front of you serious enough, that plus he gassed out and got put down by a body shot in the latter part of the fight which is another sign of lack of training.
The guy is still only 25 years old and it's pretty marketable since he can easily be promoted as an " exciting fighter with KO power like the other argies". I personally enjoy those type of tensed fights at a slow pace like what we saw in Thurman vs Chaves and hope he gets his **** together and comes back and gives us some wars. :boxing:
Marquez would've beat him at 130
Resume wise. If he beat acouple more top guys he'll match and surpass Senior
Jmm got dropped by juan diaz, chavez would take his soul.
Lets put this in perspective.
He fought mayweather who is undefeated and the best fighter on the planet.
Gave him his toughest fight.
Got beat by trout due to size IMO.
Hes still elite or there abouts.
Hopefully people think hes an underdog at the bookmakers because then ill make a killing.
castillo says hello :)
the notion that you created a thread about floyd that doesn't involve hating is downright preposterous. but lets assume there is a blizzard in the desert.
Last ppv sales were not released. fat dan said 870k gbp/sho said over 1 mil. How did you get 850k?
Manny's best ppv's are cotto and odh-1.25 mil. Floyd's are 2.5 and 1.5. how is that close to hitting floyd's numbers?
canelo, matts, garcia, lara, and trout have never headlined a ppv but you say they will help sales. how did you reach this conclusion? do you have any evidence to support yur opinion?
I think it shows that if floyd does no pre fight promotion he is good enough to sell between 870k and 1. whatever million ppv's with a relatively unknown fighter. That suggests he's as big a draw that he claims but he must do whats necessary to sell the fight to the masses.
remember, you're not hating.
Mayweather was the B side to the ODLH fight, so that 2.5 million doesnt hold as much weight.
Takes a REAL fighter to come back from losses and become a 8 time world champion and fighter of the decade with wins over multiple all time greats on his resume.
Now tell me what win over a prime all time great does Floyd have on his record? :buttkick:
