At today’s official weigh-in on Cardiff’s busy Queen Street, outside the Capitol Shopping Centre, WBO World Light-Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly came in at 12st 6lb (174lb) while the challenger Sergey Kovalev weighed 12st 5lb 8oz (173lbs).
Undefeated Cleverly makes the eighth and riskiest title defence against the dynamite-punching Russian tomorrow night at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena, live and exclusive in the on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546) and in America on HBO.
Cleverly said, “There is nothing left to say now and all the talking will be done in the ring tomorrow night. All the hard work is done, I’ve hit the weight spot and I’m ready to fight. I can’t wait for it, bring on Kovalev.”

Kovalev is one serious russian fighter-kid man! You dont wanna **** with that kind of kid man! That kid is quite a big hitter and will murder Cleverly. Do they really believe they stand a chance against that guy?
Well like i said.....
I can't think of one honestly besides B-Hop. Pascal? Kovalev would catch him and hurt him sooner or later, unless training with Mayweathers helps his skill. Dawson? I think he might be done. Stevenson? First to land wins. I think that'll be Kovalev. Cloud? :lol1: Hopkins would give him hell though, even though I'd pick Kovalev to beat him.
Pascal is the Berto of LHW, need I say more? I think he does Fonfara and Bellew like he did Cleverly, a molly wopping. Dawson's chin has never been that good, and I'm sure Kovalev will pounce on him once he gets too relaxed. I'm most interested in seeing Kov/Stevenson.
Kovalev is running through the division like a hot knife through butter. I don't think highly of LHW, but the way he's disposing of these fighters is pretty impressive and very entertaining. There has to be someone at LHW (besides B-Hop) that can give him a little trouble.

A good few people have mentioned Clevs poor strategy, lack of plan etc, but the simple fact is that Kovalevs big combos just seem to have that kinda effect.
I remember in the White fight, White's trainer yelling at him to not just stand in front of him, that he had to punch and move, etc, pretty much the same people are saying Clev shouldda done.
You seem to see the same thing when GGG fights as well. After they've taken the first coupla shots, any plans or strategems they may have had just seem to dribble outta their ears.
Gotta feel a bit sorry for Clev though, that kinda embarrassing level of beating in front of your home crowd is something I wouldn't imagine is so easy to get over. He did not look like a happy chap after the fight. That said, Vince should be goddamn ashamed sending him back out in 4.
I got Clev winning big.....don't think he'll stop Frankenstein but he's gonna do a number on him.....Clev was groomed for this moment....I expect him to to shine.....WAR CLEV :boxing:
I saw similar predictions from you before GGG vs Rosado fight. Keep going
I am no Cleverly fan I am a boxing fan, K/o ratio doesn't mean a fighter doesn't have power there are many different forms of power, also different level's of competition.
Carl Froch has the best if not one of the best chins in boxing yet he has been wobbled a few times that doesn't mean he hasn't got a good chin.
I look forward to seeing you on the forum after the fight, Just because I dislike a fighter doesn't mean I will root against him like most people on here I'm neutral in this fight And my neutral opinion is that Cleverly wins a UD or a late stoppage. Why so serious ? ..
Sorry if I sounded too serious :) I wasn't.
It was just funny how UK guys where sure about Cleverly outboxing KOvalev. So I just wanted to hear what they say after the fight. As I saw in another thread you said that Sergey made you a fan of his.
We can'tblame Nathan for not fighting hard and not letting his hands go. He felt the power and as Sergeys trainer predicted switched to survival mode.
KO stats do show fighters punching ability fairly well. It doesn't show how good a fighter is but if it's high you can assume that fighter have heavy hands. It doesn't show if this fighter can deliver his heavy punch against top level opposition thought.
No big deal in this...
No big deal in all the others down the line -- if any...
Kovalev is far better than GGG -- I said this before.
You often try to sound like a boxing expert over here. Than you should know that Kovalev when asked (this was about 8 months ago) who ishe thinks are good boxers from ex soviet union area - he said Golovkin he likes the most. They had some sparring together and he said that he learned a lot from that.
Like the Godfather III, I only came back to boxingscene because I needed some money fast. Thank you all for your advice on the Kovalev KO. Here's a photo of me and boxingscene: :luvbed:
Already looking forward to seeing you eat you're own words, I don't like Cleverly in the slightest but to think Kovalev has anything besides a punchers chance is ridiculous.
In the words of Stevie Janowski,
"WHO THE F*** ARE YOU?!? HUH?!? WHO THE F*** ARE YOU!!!!!"
Kovalev will stop cleverly within 5 IMO.
I'm going to predict Kovalev KO round 3
Lets see if Cleverly can test Kovalevs chin a bit and stamina
I even had 200$ on Kovalev KOing Clev in the 3rd round........ That bastard referee screwed me over big time!!!! Oh well at least i called it, almost ;)
The shot that did the most damaged was the one to the side of the head when Cleverly was already down. Was he not eligible for a 5 minute recovery period?.
(...)
And, if Andre Ward is up for it, he and Kovalev could built up a fight even bigger than Mayweather/Canelo. What do you say, Andre?
I'm saying that Ward is "the one" for Kovalev for some days now...
But people here think I have something against Ward... I wonder why.
(A funny thing a bout the poll here: before the fight started there were only 30 votes for a Kovalev KO... After the fight they were 42... Predictions "apres coup"?)
Roman fight?

Roman Simakov, who died in hospital after he fought Kovalev
Yea, last guy to really bring Kovalev far. He was beat down for 7 rounds until he couldn't go any more. Went to the hospital and died a few days later from the injuries sustained from the fight
What... how did the referee not stop the fight when the round ended? I have seen british fights stopped for much less than that. Oh wait, it was a british fighter who was in trouble. Nevermind.
No formula has yet to surface for Kovalev. Cleverly, a very good boxer, was completely outboxed by Kovalev while also being brutalized by him.
It's going to take someone with extreme conditioning, a great chin, and great footwork just to find out what kind of gas tank Kovalev has. And, sadly, I think that opponent, assuming one fits that description, is only going to be disappointed by what they find out.
I suspect Kovalev's gas tank is as deep as anyone in the sport.
In my opinion, Kovalev is 1 Stevenson win from being able to say he's the the most dominant force in the entire sport.
And, if Andre Ward is up for it, he and Kovalev could built up a fight even bigger than Mayweather/Canelo. What do you say, Andre?
