Rigondeaux is one of the most talented fighters i have seen in a long time. He is probably one of the most skilled of the past 15 years and that is saying a lot for a guy with so few fights, but you dont get those amatuer and proo accolades with no skill. i have seen it for myself. Including of Ward, Mayweather, and Hopkins this guy is a master of his craft.
Arum in his comfy confines of being a promoter got used to a fighter having a certain demographic that sold. DLH was mexican-american, a heart throb, a puncher etc. so with or without Arum he was gonna be a huge draw. Same for Pacquiao who had a country on his back, a fan friendly style and heart and natural gifts.
How the hell do you have two skilled guys like Mayweather and Rigondeaux and hold them back or dont know what to do with them. Mayweather did everything he said he was gonna do when he left Arum. Break records, make absurd amounts of money, and fight Cotto, Mosley, DLH who Arum prevented him from fighting. G.R. has a decision to make.
If I am a true world champion, one of the most skilled in my sport, would I listen to a guy that has not been a fighter tell me to change what isnt broke? Hell no!!! I bet if he goes to Golden Boy or other top promo companies, they will promotes his skill, and class and not downplay him as being entertaining or not
It's really the same message as Arum's, Dick just cast a wider net. There's probably some promoters that will talk nice only, so that's something to look into. Kathy Duva seems like a nice lady.
What's funny about GBP though is there whole business plan is to build up exciting , popular action fighters then feed them to the boring pound for pound star Floyd. They build these guys up so the fans believe in them. So the joke is on the fans. The Canelo Project was a beautiful business plan that was years in the making.
By the time Floyd retires their whole roster will have L's on their record.
I know. I'm sure I dropped my thoughts somewhere in that thread too.

Lets see what Schaefer thinks about all this. Well, in one swoop he manages to publicly insult his fighter Lara after a career most exciting performance, insult Rigo and Gamboa, and sh1t on Lara Trout, which is a fight on their schedule :lol1:

So you agree with publicly insulting a fighter under your promotional banner after the biggest win of his career?
Nobody is saying that he isn't a great promoter and did a good job with Rigo after the Donaire fight. But publicly insulting him and saying "He can't be a star unless Castro himself promotes" him is not needed and will make matters worse.

"I think TV networks, at least Showtime, is rewarding excitement as well. When you see a fight like a Rignodeaux or a Gamboa - they don't have very crowd pleasing styles. And I think as a result it makes them much more difficulty to sell, and it has nothing to do with promoting"
After the fight was over, Schaefer was annoyed by some of the comments being made by members of Lara's team, who the Golden promoter firmly believes were over-blowing the Cuban boxer's status in the industry.
"When DeCubas Sr. and other people with him are jumping up and down and telling me what a beast Lara is and how sensation he is and how entertaining he is - I'm like 'wait, slow down a bit.' He won, but lets be realistic and lets be honest here with each other. I think we knew Lara was a good boxer but we didn't know how he would react if he got dripped. And he got dropped twice. He showed that he can deal with adversity and that I was very impressed with," Schaefer said.
"But if you are going to come to me, whether it's DeCubas Sr. and whoever else it, and talk realistic with me - then I am all for it. But don't come to me and say that he's one of the most exciting guys ever - because he is not. Lets not bullsh*t each other. That doesn't mean that he's not a good fighter, because I'm very proud of what Erislandy Lara showed. I think what really pissed me off more, is people from his team making these unrealistic moments. Lets call it what it is, he is a different kind of fighter which is okay. Who would want to see Erislandy Lara against Austin Trout? That wouldn't be an exciting fight."

IM glad you get it PBP...obviously the other guy doesnt understand what im saying. Dude is his client, that wasnt classy at all.
I don't think Rigo should change his style. He's not an all action fighter, but I thoroughly enjoy watching him and am a huge fan. It's unfortunate what's going on with his promotional company and HBO. I would love for him to leave Arum and just fight on Showtime.
it doesn't sound like you get it.

Arum has a proven track record as a great promoter. I give him that. The point is, the statements he made as the fighters promoter was out of line and if he wants an easier time promoting the guy he should let him go. If he feels he wont make money off of him, let him go. He was hurt financially when DLH, Mayweather, Cotto or others left him.
The thing is, he expected Donaire to put on a show or ko, it didnt happen. Now he is left with a world champion who is well rounded and skilled, WHAT A HUGE PROBLEM. :bottle:

The irony of calling a hugely wealthy and successful business man an 'idiot'...
yeah, the OP is truly a genius.
He calls a man who knows the ins and outs of the fight game, and been in the business for years and know WHAT SELLS! an idiot.
Rigo is extremely hard to sell! thats the honest truth, he is boring and he has no fanbase and doesn't speak English. HE has skills and is talented but boring.
The bottom line is Rigo is boring, and Wladimir is boring, boring has no color, the only bias is the ones who big up boring fighters just to support them because they are racial supremacists.
Was the crowd Pro-Rigo, Pro-Donaire, split in between or neutral?
Mostly pro-donaire, they were really loud. The cubans, at least where i sat were really quite

when he beat gatti he got only a fraction of what gatti got. rigondeaux is not American, I don't think he speaks English & he has no fan base... people are not lining up to see him fight... he has chris byrd syndrome. he is a world champion but no one wants to fight him because they have a great chance to lose & they won't get paid well either... it's a tough spot to be in...
2 PPV's undercard and Co-headlined the 2nd ever fight in RCMH while getting paid $800K all of this while having 12 pro fights, Bob is definitely an idiot and a scumbag who doesn't care.
People were booing moments of nothing happening which was 90% of the fight. There were literally rounds were they landed a few punches each. The fight was boring to its core, it was just 2 guys hopping around looking to counter punch. I don't understand how someone can think that wasn't a boring fight, no matter who's fault it was or who you wanted to win

The people booing were there to see a Donaire KO. They wouldn't of left satisfied unless he was on his back.

would i believe a person (ts) making probably a dollar or two above minimum wage calling a harvard graduate and multimillionaire an idiot? nah, i think ts is retarded and a possible inbred that has mental issues. that's it...
Agree!
Why would you even want to hold on to someone you feel you cannot make any money off of. Let him go, GBP have a lot of potential match ups for him and that is probably why he won't let him go instead of another Promotion finding success with him Arum would rather just sit on top of a guy career
HBO and Top Rank want to tell the fans what they "WANT TO SEE", let the Ratings show that nobody wants to watch Rigondeaux because that is not the Case at all. Ratings are not "LOWER" when Rigondeaux fights on HBO. Donaire wasn't even breaking 1 Million Views when he fought on HBO up until he fought Rigondeaux
but at the same time 126-118 lbs division will never have "BIG DRAWS" they never have, Casuals don't give a damn about boxing when it comes to anything lower than 147 maybe 140, after that they really don't care
So true, if I was promoting Rigo my main thing would be to label him a boxing professor that schools everyone one of his opponents. They had "The Rumble In The Jungle" why not have Rigo fight right at the beginning of the school year and promote it as (Rigo) Schools In Session.
Arum was speaking very highly of Terrance Crawford weeks ago. I'm not talking money here. I'm just saying, how can you say good things about Crawford and bad things about Rigo? They're both guilty of the same crime. Being too skilled. The only difference is one defeated journeymen and the other defeated a cash cow.
