I've been impressed by him so far, but let's see what he does as he moves up in weight. Lots of fighters look like monsters early in their career, but fizzle out when their power doesn't carry up. Broner immediately coming to mind. But if goes up with no ill effects, I don't see many guys beating him for quite some time. With the exceptions being Ward, and call me crazy, Froch. The bigger weights are getting exciting again! :boxing:
Defense. Or lack thereof. Too easy to hit. Feel in love with his power at the lower weights (like Broner) but as he moved up and fought guys who he couldn't faze (Salido) he learned the hard way. And he was chinny.
Khan does not have the pressuring ability or the strength to make his speed a factor...He will sit and try to box Floyd and Floyd will pick him apart.. Khan has sloppy footwork and lunges a lot with his chin in the air. He does not have a great jab nor does he commit to it...He has ineffective speed which means he throws sloppy combos with out any base to them. Khan is a counter punchers dream.. His timing sucks and he has no since of distance..all ya'll talk about is his speed which honestly is not all that
Agreed. All very valid points. I don't look at Khan as some sort of master boxer. He's too sloppy and makes too many rookie mistakes to be considered such. Every fighter who has been able to deal with his speed has managed to time him and hurt him at some point. His footwork is atrocious and he can't fight going backwards. He actually looks a lot worse under Virgil Hunter than Roach and his offensive output has dropped dramatically since Khan now fights way more cautiously than before. The problem with that is that he's not a thinking type of fighter.
I feel that Floyd will time him, counter him like crazy and Khan will get discouraged from not being able to do his usual jump in with 3-4 shots routine (like in the Garcia fight). Maidana had a much better shot against Floyd because he had absolutely no respect for Floyd and doesn't generally give a crap about who he's in with. Khan doesn't have that same temperament. He will make it interesting for the first 3-4 rounds then get beat. Not saying Floyd will knock him out, but Floyd will beat Khan and won't get any credit for it.
Good stuff. If Canelo beats Cotto I think he's going directly at GGG.
Interesting. I just see no way Canelo can beat GGG. He better steer clear of that guy until he grows as a fighter a bit more.
Man that would be quite a feat if Floyd pulled it off. But, as much as I'm a fan of him, he can't beat GGG. If GGG moves down to say 154, he'll be drained, immediately taking any credit away. Only way Floyd would get full credit is by moving up to middleweight and beating him, but he can't. GGG is too big, too strong, and his body punching will wreck Floyd's tiny frame. And I'd wager if he did fight GGG and somehow, miraculously managed to beat him, you know what people would still say? "Well, who did GGG beat? He's a bum. And Floyd still ducked Pac." Lose-lose situation.
I'm sure Conte will be making an appearance next. Imagine all three of these guys on TMT. lol BoxingScene would lose it with all the Floyd is juicing posts.
I still dont want floyd to get beat by anyone lesser than pacquiao, if no pacquiao, i still hope he retires undefeated. Call me a hugger but i dont want them to lose to anyone that they would have easily toyed in their primes. Pac-may make it happen.
Agreed. If he loses, let it be against a future hall of famer, not somebody who he would easily beat if not for his age. Pac I could accept, but Khan? Hell no! He'd never stop talking about and would act like he beat a prime mayweather.
Maidana was once overrated on forums, after he smashed Ortiz and did well vs Khan, but t now severely underrated. C level fighter?, no that's disrespectful. maidana is a good fighter and has only ever had one real bad fight, vs Devon. he has improved a lot since then but still gets people saying he is totally unskilled. Why didn't Floyd and Broner win every round then?.
Exactly! Anybody thinking Maidana is a bum or C level fighter isn't paying attention. Before getting with Garcia I could see the argument of him being a limited fighter, but he's improved immensely under Garcia. Is it enough to take out Floyd, not sure, but he's a very live opponent and not an easy go for anybody, Floyd included. I see tonight being more like the first fight and if Maidana can land something big, it just may change completely. As for Broner, he'll never beat Maidana. He fights too flat footed, defense is too leaky, and his power hasn't traveled up with him to the higher weights. He can't really hurt Maidana and isn't smart enough of a fighter to break him down systematically. If they rematch, Maidana will clobber him again imo.
I like Garcia and still thinks he's a good trainer. He knows his stuff and really help Maidana improve a lot, but he can only do so much. If the fighter doesn't listen or follow the gameplan, you can't place too much blame on the trainer. He'll have more world champions soon enough. Roach even had a bad run for a while before he got back on a winning streak. Both are way better than that poser Virgil Hunter though. :boxing:
Floyd's shots to Chino's midsection sounded like gunshots on my HDtv.
Those were the ones I was most impressed with. Especially the shot before the low blow. Body work is such a lost art form. Wish Cotto still went to the body as much as he used to. His shot was lethal!
I think the point is, Pac shouldn't have to do all that just to secure the Floyd fight. They should be able to sit down and work everything out. They'll still make a ton of money regardless of it being a joint promotion. It's just another roadblock. Honestly, neither wants it. Floyd brushes it off with crazy comments and Pac always says talk to my promoter. When pressed about they each point the finger at the other in some way. It could be interesting since both have slowed down, but I'm honestly over it. There are other interesting fights to be made that doesn't include either of them.
how can u sit down and work things out when bob arum is ur promoter??the guy who refuses to work with haymon and floyd,,hell he even made amends with oscar and still dont work with his ass,,
pac has no power at the negtionating table plane and simple, floyd does,
When that much money is involved they'll find a way. Pac does have some power at the negotiating table. Not as much as Floyd, but certain concessions can't be made simply because Floyd wants it. Pac dropping Top Rank and signing with Mayweather is one of them. How does that even sound, I'm gonna promote the fight AND fight you in the ring! Seems like a conflict of interest. Best course of action is to try to work together or pay someone a fee to step aside. The amount of money involved in this fight only happens with these two fighters involved. Pac still has legions of fans that will make this fight go through the roof in terms of PPV, so there's some of his negotiation leverage. He brings in huge audience just as big as Floyd's, has countless accomplishments, future hall of famer, internationally known, has made a ton of money, etc. And is the ONLY fighter that Floyd can fight that will net him well over $100 million for fighting. So yeah, Manny has room to negotiate.
Such a tragic picture....
Both guys lost their legs...
That's completely wrong dude. But I admit I laughed a little (at Martinez not P-Will).
Glad to see Paul in good spirits! Imagine if he'd fought Canelo if not for the accident? Man! Life is so unfair sometimes, but he's still smiling so that's a positive takeaway. Keep ya head up champ! :boxing:
I'm a Floyd fan, but him beating Leonard would not be as simple as you make it. Possible, but Leonard was a beast. It would have to be the absolute best version of Floyd and even then I couldn't say with absolute certainty he would win. Leonard, despite his nice guy demeanor, was a killer in the ring and would probably beat Floyd into a shell. Blazing hand speed, power, combos, foot movement, you name it. The only advantage Floyd has, on paper, is his defense, but that wouldn't be enough to stop Leonard. Now I'm trying to think, which version of Floyd would stand the best chance against him? Gatti? Hatton? Mosley?
Maidana was on a decent win streak and looked especially impressive beating Broner. Khan got beat by Peterson, KO'd by Garcia, floored by Diaz, and beat an over the hill Collazo. I say Maidana deserved it more. Oh and Maidana at least had a belt at WW. So yeah, Khan hasn't done better than Chino to deserve a Floyd fight.
Roach is the #1 troll in America right now. He just eeked past Angel Garcia :boxing:
I agree. Angel's inactivity has really hurt him in the P4P rankings. He's going to be forgotten about unless he says something stupid in the next few weeks.
Hopefully in the future people will understand how religious beliefs are formed and why they persist. And by understanding they wont mock them and laugh at them and display the sort of condescending, obnoxious arrogance that passes for enlightenment by atheists these days.
btw im atheist, but dont look down on people because of their beliefs. Many of them are better people than myself.
To single out one aspect of who they are and use it to belittle them is silly imo.
Many of the greatest boxers have faith. Why overlook everything they have achieved in such a tough sport and insult them for their beliefs?
Like most boxing fans, if you met them in real life you would be slobbering all over them.
Well said. Just because someone chooses/doesn't choose to believe in some higher power doesn't mean you should belittle their beliefs.
Were you old enough to witness Tyson-Douglas? That news hit like an earthquake. It was totally unexpected. The fact that this is a rematch against a known puncher, Floyd's career is winding down, etc. lessens the impact in my opinion. It would still be a distant number two though.
I'm definitely old enough. I watched the fight when it happened. Of course the world thought Tyson was invincible at the time and I'd dare say Floyd has the same kinda aura about him. No one thinks he can lose. Every prediction is pro-Floyd with Maidana only having a puncher's chance. I think in this digital age of memes and gifs, a Floyd KO would resonate for a lonnnng time. People moved on after the Tyson KO and even gave him the benefit of the doubt that he was distracted, etc. I doubt people do the same with Floyd. They'll NEVER let him live it down.
good for my man maidana well deserved, im hoping all this money and spot light aint getting to his head though. Hope it aint taking from his warrior/killer self. Remmeber when Maidana used to come to press conferences in T shirts and hats looking like a cartel hitman??? I miss that guy
I doubt he changes for the worst like some boxers. He's always seemed like a simple dude who'd rather shoot rifles than sip wine in slippers. But 3 million plus PPV revenue might have him in leopard print trunks and have rappers escort him to the ring the next time we see him fight! Hahaha! :boxing:
I got Brook beating my Maidana but it could go either way. I don't know why some posters think Maidana is some bum. He can fight and his style is awkward for most fighters. They bring up the Devon fight, but that was before he went to Garcia who improved his skills tremendously. Maidana has a jab now, amongst other tools. It's kind of like Pac being sort of one dimensional before switching to Roach (not as good of course).
Brook beats him if he can deal with the awkward style and keep his composure, but like I said it could go either way. And I think Maidana whoops Porter. That's an easy fight for him with Porter's aggressive style. And Maidana also whoops Devon if they ever rematch. Maidana has improved, can we say the same about Devon?
Brook split decision. Or Maidana by KO.
Guy is talented but has never been able to put it together. In 2011, I honestly thought he was going to be a serious player in boxing because of his talent, looks and promotional backing. Thought he would really be a force at WW and that he would be favored against just about every ww. I was very wrong!
Many thought that, myself included. Buttt...Maidana derailed that train after he whooped him. Honestly I thought after he beat Berto he redeemed himself as a fighter with heart, then Floyd fiasco happened. It seems like the boxing public is willing to give him a chance, but he's had so many letdowns. The Lopez and Collazo fights didn't help him either. I believe he's missed his moment and will be more of a gatekeeper type of fighter. I think him and Berto rematching would be fun at this point, since both seem shot. It's amazing how the landscape of boxing can be changed almost overnight with certain wins/loses.
If Pac isn't shot he whoops Garcia easily. I like Danny, but he fights too flatfooted for someone like Pac. He'll be searching for that hook all night and Pac won't be there to be hit with it. Pac by UD.
All boxing sites would be practically unusable for weeks. Memes, gifs, endless posts. Skip Bayless will have a field day. 50 Cent will post videos and updates on ThisIs50 and on and on. It'll be one of the most celebrated knockouts in boxing history. Bigger than Tyson losing to Douglas.
Buttt....I don't see it happening honestly. I like Maidana, but his power isn't as substantial as it was at 140. He still has thudding shots, but I don't see one punch knockout power. He does damage from accumulation, especially against guys with little to no defense. But Saturday will tell the tale! :boxing:
Floyd a G
gota admire how he lives for himself and answers to no one
I agree. I like the fact that he doesn't bow down to media pressure. And what he said about Ray Rice's situation wasn't even bad. It's just the media is controlling the narrative and convincing everyone how to feel on the issue. What was Floyd supposed to say if he chose to answer and not say no comment? "I hate Ray Rice, I hope he burns in hades and can never walk again!" Ridiculous.
Thurman is overrated. He squares up soooo much and telegraphs his power punches. His opposition has been garbage.
Agreed. I like Thurman but starting to see a lot of flaws in his game. His footwork is terrible and he's iff balance a lot. I think Maidana takes his soul if they fight.
Some at ringside calling Keith ***39;Erislandy Thurman***39; with his style of fighting tonight. Very defensive and moving a lot more than usual— BoxingScene.com (@boxingscene) December 14, 2014
Erislandy Thurman :rofl::rofl::rofl:
That's hilarious! I think we have a new nickname for him guys.
He's gotten MUCH physically stronger recently.
There's a stark contrast between the guy that fought Hatton, and the Floyd you see now. Floyd that fought Hatton and ODHLYA would get MAN HANDLED by GGG. The guy today could do a decent job of surviving for a bit longer.
I'm not talking about the Floyd that fought Hatton, way too small. I'm thinking the Floyd that fought Shane or even most recently Cotto/Canelo. I meant three years ago in terms of his reflexes. He was the same size as now, but his reflexes were still cat like. He's slipped a bit, but still great.
I'm a Floyd fan, but GGG beats Floyd at this point in their careers. Not because he's more skillful, but Floyd's age and he has slipped slightly in terms of athleticism. Had this been Floyd from, say, three years ago I'd give Floyd the edge because he'd still have the speed, timing, and stamina to deal with GGG for a full 12 rounds. Floyd's a little guy (height and size wise) and GGG is a beast. If he punishes those larger guys at Middleweight, he will wreck Floyd's tiny frame. At this point in his career, Floyd doesn't have the reflexes to avoid the sustained, intelligent onslaught Triple G will dish out. He can handle a fighter like Maidana but that comparison is really irrelavant. Maidana is certainly a big puncher he and Floyd are relatively the same size (a power that Floyd is used to dealing with, a la Shane Mosley) and I would't say he's a smarter fighter than GGG.
If GGG can make the weight COMFORTABLY, I say TKO in 6-8 rds with size, power, and effective pressure.
