Was anyone calling for him to move up at Cruiseweight? He has plenty of business left at light heavy.
GGG was scared of moving up to 168 though, at a time when he couldn't a fight at 160 but had a whole bunch of people calling him out a weightclass above. An 8lbs jump is nothing compared to a 25lbs one. Thats what you call scared to move up. When you are the best and the only legit challenge you can face is a weight class up. Not when you have no business moving up, might as well say Kovalev is scared of moving down while you're at it. Its just as irrelevant.
Andre Ward had won the 168 lbs Kumite while the division was red hot with talent.
Then he went up in weight and kicked Kovalev's ass twice. Retired undefeated and in terms of p4p was only behind Mayweather and Pacquiao. Of all the names listed he's worthy of the ATG tag.
Donaire was another one who was knocking everyone out and was p4p only considered behind Manny and Floyd at some point. Don't know if that is enough. Ward however proved himself beyond doubt.
People act like Khan is ducking him, while Brook is the one who priced himself out of a deal. Fight never happened because Brook wouldn't take a 60/40 split, which is more than fair considering Brook needs Khan more than Khan needs him.
Canelo would be too drained. Canelo’s best weight right now is 168. Maybe he can make 164lbs, i’m not sure.
And no, any win over a drained fighter is a bad win.
Canelo was drained for Floyd. Is Canelo fighting at 160 really that bad? Back when he was doing catch weights near 154 he should have been fighting at 160.
TC didn't showcase devastating speed nor power.
to me it just look like Errol was absolutely shot.
Styles make fights, Errol was slower on his feet than people realised, he plodded, his wide stance and wide punches were not as short or sharp as Crawford's.
Crawford isn't exceptionally fast, but he has exceptional punch selection, he was always able to beat Spence to the punch once they were within punching range.
Wilder has dropped everyone he faced. Zhang has not journeyman or not Wilder dropped everyone. Wilders power is not over rated. It is rated correctly as one of the biggest punchers all time. So no Zhang does not punch harder
The point is who is the best fighter Wilder has knocked out? Wilder punches hard without doubt and he can only fight the people they put in front of him.
However I don't think he's nearly as powerful as people imagine. A 60 year old Ortiz is his best win.
Did zhang ko all the bums he faced? No. Did m tyson ko all the bums he faced? No. Wilder dropped them all. Clearly top 3 biggest punchers all time.
By the age of 20, what was Tyson's resume looking like?
Wilder doesn't survive the same schedule.
Fury beat himself. He didn't take this seriously while Ngannou clearly put the work in and proved himself to be world class.
Fury made the grave mistake of underestimating who he was dealing with. It was a circus fight. Rather then turning up as the Lion tamer, or even the Lion, he turned up to play the clown.
Joshua knocks Francis out.
The only way I see a stoppage is if McTapOut calls it quits late into the fight, I'm expecting him to gas half way and I'm expecting his lack of character to show. Floyd is too happy to coast. He doesn't care for the sport's reputation because he gets paid anyway. But if this goes to distance and if Floyd is unwilling to try and take him out, then Floyd should be remembered for the harm he did to the sport.
I feel the same exact way. I'm worried for boxing. It's bad enough I have to hear about it being dead nearly once a week.
The people rooting for Conor either weren't true boxing fans, or they are siding with their race. Period.
McGregor is a modern day Gerry Cooney, the white hope Donald Trump supporters can rally behind. "peeleft:
im white....I voted for trump.....and I'm rooting for Floyd so don't label me lol
Like any generalisation its never strictly true I suppose. But I think you know what I'm getting at. :boxing:
Conor has quit on himself three times by the age of 29. Floyd did what he did with a boring style that nobody likes and without the media hype machine of UFC behind him. Floyd is still top of the world at 40. Conor won't be a fighter at 30.
Didn't Paulie retire after getting worked over and stopped by a British domestic level scrub, Conor just went 12 rounds with an out of shape fat Paulie and could only muster 11 seconds of highlights from 36 minutes of sparring.
Lets keep perspective here. Pillow puncher Paulie who is over the hill. Conor could have asked for anyone to come and spar with him, he chose an old man.
