What truly made Don King fall off?How would today's stars careers have went under him?

I think Don just had too much of a dirty promoter rep that eventually when better promoters came along, fighters would immediately sign with them to get away from his dark cloud. Aside from cheating/robbing fighters of their money, didn't he also require some kind of contract where if you beat one of his fighters, you had to then go under his umbrella? I recall the Vitali Klitscko documentary where he said, Don invited the two brothers to his mansions. He then noticed the piano was playing music with nobody there. He thought things were fishy and they got the hell out, lol.

I think his downfall was robbing his fighters. On paper they were paid well but the bigger piece of the pie went to him by the time he got his cut. I would rather have a million dollars now than the promise of 10 million I'll never get

Promoters even today, talk a good one 'But they still don't venture into Africa'. There was awesome documentary, called 'Soul Power'. The Rumble in the Jungle was one of the biggest single day sporting events in history. Note: I wonder if Hearn's ambitions of taking Joshua to Africa, are still something he aspired to do.

Fighters have gain more power, Don King maybe did not adapt with the changing landscape. But he is still in the game, just not the top promoter.

It sounds like a hell of a story though,I just don't know it(or maybe nobody does?) He had an exclusive deal with Showtime for ages, but eventually lost it after bringing Tito to HBO.

He had a good 20 -30 years as being THE promoter in boxing. To be fair everyone is going to have their heyday and then drop off at some point.

When that dried up in America, so did Don King Promotions. Don didn't have the leverage to make HBO and Showtime overpay or buy garbage matchups because the landscape had changed. Top Rank and Haymon/Golden Boy took the reigns from him and never looked back. This and natural aging and no obvious heir to the throne. Top Rank is really run by Arum's step son, there is now way a 90+ year old has the stamina to put in 70 hour work weeks. The axis of boxing shifted to Eastern European and Northern Asian fighters in the heavyweight division less a few fighters and King couldn't pull his street guy flim flam act on these guys. PS, he did have Valuev but only as co-promoter and he refused to negotiate fairly for a unification fight with K2 promotions and after Valuev lost to Chageav that was the end of his chance at relevancy in the division.

What happened to @Thuglife_nelo(say what you will but he knows a lot of random sh about boxing) or @WbaWbcIbf ? They should know the answer to this, anyone who can chime in on exactly when it was that Don King went from top dog to zero?(like was there a certain fighter(s) leaving him who completely were the last straw,or why did hbo terminate his deal, anyone? Don King was a crazy ol fool who killed multiple people I know that much
