This would be devastating if true. It wouldn't surprise anyone, as there was a lot of shady stuff going on around this fight. Does anyone know who chose to have the fight in DC to begin with?
I agree, if he would have kept it in the middle of the ring, he probably would have got the stoppage. Going to the ropes, where cotto is known to be deadly, is a bad move for anyone.
Mayweather still looked the same as the Mosley/Ortiz fights. He uses his legs as much as he has too. Cotto pressured him effectively and Mayweather planned throughout his camp to fight off the ropes, he fights well off the ropes.
Floyd looked sharp, especially when he threw combinations.
One thing is for sure, vintage floyd fought off the ropes better than last night. Cotto got in way too close and did too much work on the inside. Maybe it is the weigh and cotto's size.
One thing that is true, when he mixed his punches up, he did major damage.
We can say "what if" all we want, but there was actually a local news segment here in Orlando some years ago, where the Magic got to try a boxing/mma style workout for a day. Howard was throwing sloppy one, two combinations on the heavy bag, squared right up, and was obviously brutally tired after some time on the heavy bag, to the point where he struggled to keep his hand up. When he (along with other magics players)were asked what they thought of the workout, he stated that that it was a lot more than what it looks like.
As a Howard fan, i say that you cannot expect the world out of these guys in other sports, since they have specifically trained for basketball.
As a reference, the segment was on channel 13 news in Orlando/Central Florida.
Every point that was touched in this thread goes back to one thing, everyone wants a piece of the action $$$$$. Too many people involved who don't care about boxing trying to make money. Sanctioning bodies could care less if their paper champion is recognized as the best in the division as long as they are getting their money and sanctioning fees.
Something else that cannot, and will not ever be fixed is the greedy promoters who don't care for the sport and only want to make the most money possible. They have such a hard time selling tickets that the only cash cows are being protected like there is no tomorrow, but they are quickly running out and will soon be left with nothing. We know there is something wrong with our sport when snooki helps put on a card, enough said.
What happened saturday with chavez was the last straw. This clown has turned into a full blown mayweather vs pacquiao tye saga. First he was given a ranking by fighting nobodies, then he is given a title because....... Then he just flat out refuses to fight legit opponents, and now this?????????
Bottom line, Boxing is quickly turning into a no mans land
Roy Jones was done as soon as he took the shot, but he still had movement in his body, while pacquiao was on the floor motionless to the point where they were checking his vitals.
JMM vs PAC

Groupies wasn't it? I remember his trainer saying after training there would be 4-5 different girls waiting for him.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was :( What is sad about it is that these are things that can be avoided.
I think the fact that Jin left him broke is the reason he is still fighting. I think we might be seeing the second coming of recent times Roy Jones. I really hope it isn't so :(
I honestly think he was doing that to kind of get sympahty from Pac. He looked like he was scared to hit pac because he knew something was coming back. While Pac is too much of a sport and a nice guy to decline.
True. Mosley looked scared from the opening bell.
that was irritating as fuuck. these 2 knuckleheads gave us a sparing session instead of a war
Calling last nights fight a sparring session is going too far lol ive seen 13-14 year old amateur sparring sessions better than that.
