So after last night the question comes up again, are floyds legs starting to go? From the mosley fight people said that it was just floyd sitting on his punches more and more of a strategy, mostly the same was said for the 4 rounds vs ortiz.
Clearly last nights plan was not to fight cotto off the ropes, and for the second fight in a row, he found himself having to fight himself out of the ropes. I would have expected his footwork and approach to be similar to be similar to the hatton fight, and after going 12 with cotto and his body shots, yes one can say floyd still has a lot in him, but is it safe to say that he is starting to slow down on his feet more?
What do you guys think?
BY THE BOLD; DOES IT MEAN HE THOUGHT HE DID'NT THUS COTTO SHOULD HAVE WON THE FIGHT? A REPLY WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.... :peeright:
Mayweather said he could've easily outpointed him at the post-fight press conference. Anyone thinking Cotto won is delusional.
Mayweather still looked the same as the Mosley/Ortiz fights. He uses his legs as much as he has too. Cotto pressured him effectively and Mayweather planned throughout his camp to fight off the ropes, he fights well off the ropes.
Floyd looked sharp, especially when he threw combinations.
One thing is for sure, vintage floyd fought off the ropes better than last night. Cotto got in way too close and did too much work on the inside. Maybe it is the weigh and cotto's size.
One thing that is true, when he mixed his punches up, he did major damage.

Definitely. He looked a lot smaller as well... even when he was blocking Cotto's shots, his arms would still flail or his whole body would shift causing him to have to reset and get his balance... which has rarely happened.
When he went back to boxing in the championship rounds, he looked outstanding, so he's speaking the truth when he says he could have easily outpointed Cotto by boxing him. Mayweather made it a tougher fight than it really had to be and Cotto really trained well because he still looked pretty fresh at the final bell.

I agree, if he would have kept it in the middle of the ring, he probably would have got the stoppage. Going to the ropes, where cotto is known to be deadly, is a bad move for anyone.
whenn floyd choose to move he looked awesome......but he tried to stand toe to toe for a lot of the fight.....i think way too much.

I think people are right when they say Floyd wanted the stoppage. He could have stood centre ring and boxed Cotto in my opinion but, it would have made for a very uninteresting fight with Cotto not really opening up for fear of getting outmanoeuvred and countered. When Floyd took to the ropes Cotto opened up and Floyd was able to land nicer shots than he would have been able to had he went strictly boxer.
I think the jab to the body was working really well and he seemed to stop using it from the 5th onward.
I think his plan was to box at the start then fight on the inside in the mid rounds and break Cotto down. But, I don't think he expected it to be competitive on the inside as it was.
I was saying to myself at the start of the fight though that Mayweather was pushing for the KO too much. I think that's why he got hit more than usual.
That being said he still got hit flush rarely.
In the centre of the ring he was dominant, bizarrely though he kept backing into the ropes
There was one instance when he walked back towards the ropes and almost gestured for Cotto to join him there

I agree with this, there was a few instances he was very quick in moving off the ropes and starting again when things were not going to plan.
I noticed that too. There were instances where he used his legs very well.
I also noticed that he wasn't using the pull counter.
He only attempted it once and he landed it.
I thought his defense was tight though most of the fight.
I think he planned on going to the ropes.
I think he intended to break Cotto down on the inside and forcce a stoppage but Cotto just wouldn't break down.
Mayweather said at the post fight press conference that he could have moved more if he wanted but he chose not to. I don't think he's lying, personally.

V good question.......... Was an epic fight, I got the feeling that he wanted to fight cottos fight and still fight him when everyone was saying "Stay off the ropes etc." , think he wanted to put on a better performance than pacman. There was times at the fight when he was staying on the outside and boxing him and using his footwork effectively, so i dont think his legs have gone, in terms of his physical gifts (footwork) I still think he has more than enough to move back and fight on the back foot, but he said it himself, he has become more offensive to give the fans a better show.
I reckon if he stayed on the outside and boxed him, counter punching, slick defence etc. he might have been able to stop him late... but yeah Floyd put on a masterful show last night, and when cotto was throwing his hard flurries, everyones going nuts but did they hell land, about 80% them were blocked or mis hits. Floyd proved last night to even the critics and haters, he has more than the upper-hand against pacman, nevertheless pacman still has a chance.
