Weekends like this past one are whats killing boxing. The two things that sports fans can't stand more than anything are terrible officiating and the thought that cheating could be going on.
The score card turned in on the nonito Donaire fight is an example of terrible officiating. How could someone in their right mind give Vasquez 7 rounds? How could a judge that incompetent be used in a title fight? Will there even be any discipline, review or questioning of how he produced such a card?
Also the issue going on with the Chavez-Rubio fight. Now I have nothing against Chavez as I don't think this is his fault. But how is it that something that is contractually supposed to happen just not done? how do you blame another commission for not enforcing the rules you created? For anyone who has done work under contract you know you are liable to be sued if you do not meet your contractual obligations. Is anything like that going to happen in this instance? doubt it.
These two things are just tips of the ice berg the crazy number of divisions the multiple sanctioning bodies with multiple titles in the same weight class the list goes on and on. Only us hard core fans are willing to look beyond this cluster**** that is the state of boxing to try and enjoy the fights that remain.
Does anyone else see these things? what are some possible solutions? boycott? full scale congregational hearing? I just can't see how boxing will ever climb back into mainstream with this many problems.
For the most part I hate HBO commentating, think they need to have more people who have been actively involved in the sport ( People like Foreman, Jones, Leonard, Hopkins) as opposed to a bunch of twats who are just so detached from what is actually happening.
Foreman and Jones are awful. I don't mind Lampley as much, but Merchant's gotta go. Same goes for Lederman. Kellerman is a much better analyst and interviewer and the only one worth keeping around.

Less useless titles ffs.
More fights that fans want to see
Fighters fight more often.
I also feel lately on HBO Boxing they've been really sloppy overall. The commentators should be spot on with the action (not bickering about the crowd doing "the wave"). And then we have Steward going on quiet mode and Lampley has to reassure him by asking him a question just to get him to say something. I feel Merchant as a post fight interviewer is horrible. They need Max Kellerman or someone else up there.
Hate to say it but UFC as a company handles their sh!t very well. Joe Rogan does an excellent job commentating and post fight interviews. He never bashes the fighters during.
Just my views
What's killing boxing are retarded fans that search high & low for "the next ppv star".
What you get in ppv stars are usually 1 sided mismatches, no one needs any more of those. I'm genuinely happy there are only 2 of those right now. When Floyd & Pacman are gone, boxing will be a better place.
When Floyd and Pacquiao retire someone else will take their place. It's like people don't understand that it becomes unprofitable trying to build multiple cash cows. Money is wasted on promotions and the options give fans the opportunity to boycott fights.
Effort is spent hyping Mayweather and Pacquiao, when they retire that effort will be spent on the next marketable product and the cycle will continue.
The main problem is there are way too many sanctioning bodies. It has to be one title for each division. This way everyone will be fighting for the title of their division instead of being called a champ when they haven't faced top competition. This will increase the competitive drive in fighters.
Another problem is promoter beef. Its all about inhouse money, nobody wants to share, so the fans suffer. Now Bob arum is a scum bag, but if he was running boxing we would have some amazing fights because no matter who wins hes at a gain.
You think having one title a division would help but no it would just **** things up even more because the sanctioning bodies are corrupt. It would result in fighters like Chavez getting protected and fighters like Bradley and Martinez stripped of their titles.
Multiple sanctioning bodies are a necessary evil, the problem can always be resolved with unification bouts. I mean the concept of different ''leagues'' is not new to sports, it can be seen in football and soccer. They play in the Superbowl and Champions league to establish who is number one.
More fight on a regular basis..Boxing could profit by having more tournament style events..Maybe 3 fights in a week..First two in head gear..Coalesce the highlights and play the champ fight in it's entirety would make a good show..Even reality TV shows cost a couple mil an episode you could generate a lot of good fights for that amount.
Stupid Fans who Accept Anything guys like Bob Arum Gives Them is what is Killing Boxing...not just Bob Arum though, you can also point fingers at Oscar and Golden Boy Promotions, while they are the lesser of the two evils
People point the finger at Bob Arum but Arum don't force people to order his PPV's, Arum just take advantage of the NEW Boxing Fans that came with the Rise of Manny Pacquiao, he knows they don't know much about Boxing, he knows because they borderline WORSHIP Pacquiao, that it really doesn't matter who Arum puts him in with, he is going to make a lot of money off of those Stupid Fans REGARDLESS

nothing is "killing" boxing
every time there's a disappointment, we hear this "killing" boxing shit
boxing always had and always will have problems, but nothing will kill it
we need less PPV and more tournaments/unifications
if the best are fighting the best and the fights are good, it's fine
Money/power currupts everything... Not that money isnt good. The love and greed of it makes people do stupid ish!!!!!! This is the problem with the world tho, to narrow it down in boxing i guess don king and arum are some examples
Every point that was touched in this thread goes back to one thing, everyone wants a piece of the action $$$$$. Too many people involved who don't care about boxing trying to make money. Sanctioning bodies could care less if their paper champion is recognized as the best in the division as long as they are getting their money and sanctioning fees.
Something else that cannot, and will not ever be fixed is the greedy promoters who don't care for the sport and only want to make the most money possible. They have such a hard time selling tickets that the only cash cows are being protected like there is no tomorrow, but they are quickly running out and will soon be left with nothing. We know there is something wrong with our sport when snooki helps put on a card, enough said.
What happened saturday with chavez was the last straw. This clown has turned into a full blown mayweather vs pacquiao tye saga. First he was given a ranking by fighting nobodies, then he is given a title because....... Then he just flat out refuses to fight legit opponents, and now this?????????
Bottom line, Boxing is quickly turning into a no mans land
wasnt the judge that gave vasquez 7 rounds also puerto rican? that isnt too much of a stretch for a puerto rican judge to give the puerto rican fighter more rounds, knowing the other judges clearly woulda given it to donaire, since he won the fight.
it was just for support Im sure, and it should totally be illegal and that judge should be reprimanded for scoring the bout based on ethnicity rather than boxing.
(disclaimer: this is NO way a racist post!)
In order for the judge to give Vazquez the 115-112, he had to give him 8 rounds not 7, remember he got knock down.
I think the judge was Mexican.

Racism at its finest.
Kidding. I agree with 100%. I would give a green K for this, but I'm bloodied up.
by far and away the biggest problem is the mass of sanctioning bodies. Cut it down to one overall body with a super six style tournament in each divison to decide the one and only champ per division and the sport would be back in a big way
