BoricuaBoxing I was just advised that the NYSAC meeting to determine Antonio Margarito's licensing won't happen until after 4:pm. #boxing # CottoMargarito 29 minutes ago

not much going on yet, but i thought i'd open a discussion about it. twitter is buzzing already.
If Cotto can come in and make Margarito go backwards he wins, he is the better technical boxer but he isn't a guy that freezes out the other guy, plus Margarito has longer arms so running away doesn't benefit Cotto that much because Margarito will come into range first Cotto and can land as he tries to get away, Cotto would be much better served moving in so he really get inside the arc where Margarito is really dangerous and do work from there.
He doesn't have to make Margarito go backwards to win... he needs to be able to do what he did for the first 5 rounds in the first fight... clean accurate combinations, and MOVE.... what he needs to fix... is his endurance... by rounds 5 and 6... he would throw a combination, but the movement slowed, and he would stay in one spot longer, and longer... until he relied on his defense to block and slip punches instead of his legs to keep him out of range.
His defense is not good enough to make Margarito miss everything... he has to be able to use his legs all 12 rounds... if he can do that, he wins. If he can't... we see a repeat.
I'm glad the fight is on, although Margarito's chances will be worse than the first fight. The doctors will be observing that eye very closely, and if Cotto shakes it enough they are going to stop it for sure. It's actually a relatively unfair advantage given to Cotto, since information about one's injury isn't usually spread to the public like this. I have Cotto by TKO.
Ladies and gentleman, just something i think you should all consider:
In the first fight Cotto was dominant for the first 6-7 rounds, before Margarito made his late charge and pummeled Cotto into submission. Cotto hit Margarito with alot of shots before he got tired and worn down. Margo has since had his skull fu*ked by SSM and been annihilated by MP. Margarito has had surgery to correct a broken orbital bone, and also correct the subsequent development of a cataract because of the MP fight. His eye isn't in good shape. Normally NYSAC would not license in this circumstance, but predictably they've bent the rules for the sake of economics. '
This fight will get stopped by about round 8 or earlier, with the doctor calling it off due to Margo's eye. The fight is going to play out the same way the first one did with Cotto landing alot early and outboxing Margo, but this time Margarito isn't going to be able to stand up to the punishment because of the eye and the punishment he has taken post Cotto and the fight will be stopped. Cotto was hitting Margo at will in the first fight early, same will happen here, except he has a nice target to aim for.
Cotto simply cannot fight off his back foot.
He needs to be coming forward working the body, jabbing, hooking.
He simply can't run and box.
When he does, he loses rounds.
It is like a slow train wreck when he starts going backwards, it doesn't look that bad to start although he eats a ton of shots but it continually gets worse until the gruesome outcome.

I wasn't trying to sh!t on Cotto as I know he's the 3rd highest producer in the sport, but these clowns try to turn stuff into a promotional war, like that really matters.
*I'm starting Jay Cutler on FF league*
you wish eagles had jay cutler.
good luck with vince young.
caleb hanie will lead the way to the promised land. :headbang:
even 400k is damn good.
i think it'll do way more.

Why, this PPV isn't making more than 2-400K buys, this fight only matters to hardcore boxing. Showtime will still get it's viewer, and to be honest, most people are still gonna watch the Showtime and grab their laptop and watch the Cotto-Marg online.

bad news for the gbp showtime card:D

you taking marg or cotto?
Tough to say, I don't like Margarito because he honestly seems like a has been but if he can force Cotto on the back foot I can't see Cotto winning.
I will go with Cotto but I certainly wouldn't put money on it
Yea Arum really pays off when dealing with the nasty side of the business, which people don't really talk much about anymore but still exists.
It all worked out though, so that is good it will be a fun night of boxing.

sometimes......
that old man is good for something.
this fight deserved to be in nyc.
don't want the cotto fans to travel too far after another humiliating defeat.

Makes sense, good thing Arum is a crooked guy who knows the cost of doing business.
They don't teach you that in business school~
The session actually ended with someone from the commission saying this: ".....and to quote Vito Corleone........how did we get here??"

I never thought I'd be happy to see Tony get licensed again, but i am. Especially for all who made arrangements to go see the fight. That would have really sucked...and the bs would be flying all over the place.
We got a fight, and I'm happy.
