hearn will want an option on tank if he wins...just like he did with mikey and hed do with charlo......that's the line theyd use to try to take one of them for good....and that's what hearn wants...he wants to get a pbc fighter over there and have them win, stage their next fight, and then hope he can convince them to stay
on the surface a one night 5 mil deal sounds great to fight farmer...cause im fairly certain tank wins.....but if it comes with an option? is that the best deal for tank? tanks already making 3 mil or so and hes headlining and hes selling 14k in tickets in multiple cities....all of farmers shows combined I don't think have sold 14k in tickets(sarcastic exaggeration but kinda serious)....
tank is progressing towards a ppv fight...you think he should kill that momentum for a couple of extra mil when hes already been building something? to fight a guy nobody knows or watches?
just not sensible
Just like the option he had on Ramirez for fighting Hooker? Meaning...NONE! Get a grip peeeps. Enjoy the fact that many good fights are getting made and more dates are available for fighters to remain active. If a fighter wants to make a living and not take chances or accept slightly larger checks, that is on them. Period.
Why is Spence on this list? Beating a fat lightweight and a guy who can't win the big one?
Whatever.
I say Canelo. Love him or hate him, beating the respected Jacobs and then going to LHW to beat Kovalev is truly impressive. Danny couldn't hit him and Kovalev couldn't touch him with anything other than a soft jab.
Taylor with wins over Baranchyk and (as an underdog) over Prograis should be 1A.
Inoue had a great year, but had a mighty struggle vs future HOF Donaire.
Roman could be considered as well.
Pac--a good win over Thurman doesn't get him FOY for me, just as Ruiz doesn't get it with his win over AJ.
Wilder boys are so pained and desperate.
I didnt see this energy from them when wilder ducked AJ's $100mil contract.
Try again.. Fury has no fear of Windmill.
https://bigfightweekend.com/news/let-the-wilder-fury-2-smack-talk-begin/
Easy, popular choice, although it should have gone to Josh Taylor, who won the WBSS as an underdog over Prograis. No complaint though, as Canelo's wins are both legit and meaningful.
Spence shouldn't have even been on the ballot. He beat a lightweight and beat a guy in Porter who doesn't beat the best fighters.
Jose Ramirez had 2 quality wins, including his unification on Hooker's home turf.
Navarette defended his belt 4 times..
Inouye survived a severe gut check to win the WBSS and unify.
Johnriel Casimero fought 4 times and disposed to Zolani Tete as if he were a journeyman..
Come over here. You guys were slamming GGG hard. Moost of you are some hardcore Canelo groupies. I like Canelo so I hate GGG. Same ****** who loved Manny and hated Floyd, or loved Floyd and had to hate Manny.
Funny how life works, now its Canelo who will probably fight Munguia. Keep the same energy now. Want to see you sh#t on Canelo.
No way he was going to fight Kov. He couldnt even fight Jacobs without a rehydration clause. You thought he was going to jump 2 divisions and fight Kov?
Before trying to call me a GGG groupie, he is overrated and been overrated. He is good but just not great. Since that fight in Monte Carlo Isaw alot of flaws in him. Canelo will and has a better career than him. So no point on attacking me.
Lets all sh#t on Canelo now the same way we were GGG.
Lets go
Here is the link to a forum from the potential GGG-Munguia matchup. Yeah, G was not treated with kindness..
https://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?p=19875031#post19875031
Let's see...GGG and Jacobs couldn't dent Alvarez' chin, so the only intriguing matchup is between Alvarez and Kovalev. Spence has zero chance to defeat Alvarez.
And how is showtime treating you? Total garbage mismatches this year. Yeah, you should TOTALLY support a network that gives an occasional, garbage-level fight instead of a network that brings you WBSS, Hooker-Ramirez, Roman-Doheny, Joshua-Ruiz, Canelo-Jacobs, etc. You know what you are and I don't even have to say it.
There are no set qualifications for the IBHOF
Yea but thats not a qualification for Gatti to be there or else Corrales should be there as well.
Our mission is to honor and preserve boxing's rich heritage, chronicle the achievements of those who excelled and provide an educational experience for our many visitors.
Hate to say it, but it is a simple vote. Period. Some voters may have criteria they use, but it is not universal. Kinda of like judging a bout. Gatti and Mancini, due to their charisma, represented what was beloved about the sport. I think they are justly in the HOF. They are two fighters who would be discussed when talking about the history of boxing. Julian Jackson is rightfully in. When you talk about potentially the hardest puncher p4p ever, throw in he's a 2-division titlist with a win over the highly respected Terry Norris, he deserves a spot. There are many who are 'good' enough to be in, but with only 3 or 5 allowed in per year, it is too easy to be left behind if you do not make it on the first ballot. Benn, Eubank for example.
Dead in the middle of summer, too, for those of you asking why this didn’t perform exponentially better than Pacquiao-Broner. Viewers are on vacation, have more plans, etc. https://t.co/G6CD1DCThd— Mike Coppinger (@MikeCoppinger) July 26, 2019
Idiotic statement from Coppinger. Prior to the switch to Mexican holidays, the highest ppv numbers were always in the summer as they did not have to compete with college football.
Tyson Holyfield 2 1.99M buys 6/28
Tyson-Lewis 1.9M 6/8
Tyson McNeely 1.55M 8/19
Floyd-McGregor- August
500K is an excellent buy rate for a Manny bout with a non-hispanic/floyd dance partner. 400k vs Bradley, 400k vs Broner
Golovkin has 1 good win. Jacobs, which is debatable that he won.
Canelo has Golovkin, Jacobs, Lara, Cotto, Trout.
Canelo has a debatable win over G, a clear gift draw, debatable wins vs Lara and Trout, and a GREAT win over past his prime and above his best weight Cotto. Hardly a good argument.
Golovkin actually knocked down Jacobs as well.
That being said, Canelo has faced some talented fighters. He just hasn't separated himself as being more than a hair better, if any.
I would have kept my big lying mouth shut about Ward and Canelo
Golovkin: Would Fight Ward at 168 and Canelo at 154...
http://thaboxingvoice.com/golovkin-aims-high-and-low-would-fight-ward-at-168-and-canelo-at-154/15398/
1 year later, Golovkin killed both of those fights over weight LMAO
you fanboys can blurt out all the excuses you want... but REAL fans can remember exactly what happened...
Golovkin & Ward: Who Is Ducking Who?
"Whatever you think of Golovkin the fighter, there is a serious mismatch here between his team’s words and their deeds, whereas judging Ward by his upcoming test next weekend, the reverse is true."
https://www.thefightcity.com/golovkin-vs-ward-gennady-golovkin-andre-ward-kovalev-boxing/
Use CONTEXT. You give a 2013 article when GGG had left Germany, was trying to just hurry up and fight top fighters for serious money in the US. 2013. To make himself known, he name-drops Mayweather and Canelo--he could cut weight to get a big fight. WHAT WOULD YOU DO???
Again, CONTEXT. You use a November 2016 article that was written AFTER Ward sent a contract AFTER GGG had ALREADY SIGNED TO FIGHT LEMIEUX!! How is that a duck??? Use some sense, hater. Besides...WHAT WOULD YOU DO?? Fight Ward for "show money" like Kovalev did???
https://www.cbssports.com/boxing/news/andre-ward-sergey-kovalev-ii-fight-purses-krusher-to-receive-no-show-money/
Haters like you have no sense of CONTEXT or LOGIC. Period.
You can't duck an offer that was never made in the first place. A serious offer includes a weight, a location, a date and a dollar amount the fighter will recieve. No such offer was ever made by team Ward to team GGG. All Ward did was make a media call out when GGG was in training for Lemieux and legally bound by contract to fight Lemieux. By the time GGG beat Lemieux Ward had moved to 175 and said he was never returning to 168. he never had intentions to fight GGG and his media call out was just just as your so called proof of evil doing by your hated GGG always ends up being. Ward is many years younger than GGG but he retired years ago. GGG is still fighting, still a world champion and still high up on all important pfp top 10 best lists including ring that is owned by DeLaHoya. GGG has more KO wins than Ward has total fights. He never ducked Ward who never made an offer to fight him. that is a myth created by GGG haters like you. Middleweights can't duck light heavyweights and they can't respond to offers that were never made or made when they already had a fight.
Exactly. GGG didn't want/need to fight Ward after his trajectory was set...middleweight legacy and/or Canelo fight. Any of these clowns should ask Kovalev how lucrative it was to fight Ward...no money and incompetent judging/refereeing. And how many of those hater clowns would have done exactly the same as GGG? All of them. IQ's are low when it comes to haters...
They were both good, but GGG's legacy with 20 MW defenses, including a methodical beatdown of Murray, the man many felt beat Martinez, make it an easy pick. Haters will hate and diminish every win that GGG has, but beating DJ and Canelo, at 36, give him the better wins. Had Sergio started boxing sooner he could have been special.
If he gets in, the Hall needs to apologize to Sven Ottke. Wilder has beaten nothing but slow heavies...none who are above average. Areola/Molina/Stiverne/Ortiz/Breazeale....you time these guys with a sundial in the 40 yard dash. Sure, his only losses are 'to the best'....but that is because above average fighters like Povetkin (Povetkin's fault) and Whyte never got their shot at him.
Instead of stepping up to world title level with lemieux and getting beaten 3 guys later?
I have wondered the same. I think he wanted to achieve at least one of two goals....make some life-changing money by fighting someone such as a Canelo or Mayweather (sorry haters, nobody at 160 or 168 had any value) or to break the middleweight record. The shot at Canelo came up soon enough that he was able to cash a big check (now several). Every occupation is about the Benjamins, and going through 3 more camps to fight the Wades and Monroes of the world wouldn't get him nearly the money for a single shot at Canelo. Fame/Legacy doesn't pay the bills.
Good posts...the weird thing about the GGG criticism to me is that every fighter ever, more or less, has a resume which is 90% made up of fighting good/solid fighters...most guys, even the greats, only have a few real fights vs other great fighters, in their primes, at their best weight.
I think with Floyd's emergence, a lot of his fans prop up beating guys with a name, who aren't at their best weight or in their primes...that's just what fans do ya know...they have already picked their side so they will use what they can to try and make their guy look good.
GGG dominated a lot of good fighters...most other greats have a hiccup or two in those types of fights...depending on what one thinks of Derevyanchenko, GGG never really had a slip up or even close to it...I don't really see the logic that GGG did anything other than beat Jacobs and Canelo (twice) convincingly, but some seem to disagree and call those close.
In any event Canelo is a great, probably an ATG fighter in his prime, and Jacobs a very good fighter, in his prime and at his best weight.
You do have some outliers like Ali who have like 10 fights vs other great fighters...but 1) that is why many pick him as the GOAT or one of the best ever; 2) he has a mixed bag in those 10 fights; and 3) he was fortunate enough to fight in a pretty deep era for HWs/his division.
But who is the best guy Floyd beat? And Manny as well? They have great names on there...but you could make a case against every win or fight or theirs as well...very rarely does a great fighter fight another great fighter in their prime at their best weight...GGG at least has 2 of those for him vs Canelo.
And in Manny's case, he has 9 blemishes on his resume compared to GGG's 2...Floyd has none but I think most neutral people would agree that the names on his resume don't really match up to the level of those guys at the time they fought Floyd.
People call me a GGG lover lol...but in truth I just never really understood the logic/hate of some of his detractors...doesn't make a ton of sense to me when I analyze fighters....GGG has flaws too though...could have stopped at least 1 of Jacobs/Canelo/SD in those 4 fights if he really wanted some serious ATG props from foe and fan alike...especially stopping Canelo once in those fights would have been big for him.
You know...haters love to hate. I can understand that some were turned off by the hard push by HBO..but isn't that their job? He was a great fighter. Cleaned out his division. Very fan friendly. No arrests. Seemed nothing to not like.
yuh i guess he wanted the money more than the records.
this is what I was asking, I was trying to attract butthurt 3G fans in droves.
That is why he didn't waste time with a Ward fight after he had established himself at MW. Fighting Ward made him no money (go ask Kovalev about that...) and it also did not add to his title defenses. No money. No legacy. GGG isn't alone in fighting weak comp. Hopkins had terrible MW opponents. Wilder. Tank. RJJ fought his share of bums, and May fought his share of no-hopers as well. Unfortunately it is more the rule than the exception.

From their own mouths...
Why do you think this way? HBO would’ve given nice paydays to both fighters if the fight was made. When Margarito moved “permanently” to 154 did he not fight a smaller guy at a catch?
How come no narrative exists that GGG vs Ward could’ve been anywhere from 168-175?
GGG himself said 168 was easy. Abel Sanchez said when GGG’s “popularity” were big that he’d have to move up, that “it may be even at 175.”
Why do GGG fans gravitate to low standards or is it merely they just don’t like fighters they hate associated to his name?
It will always be true that GGG stans stem from PAC stans. That’s just the way it is. As Floyd said, “y’all just funna hop onto the next.”
Why is it that GGG haters do not use business sense, logic, or context when discussing him? Part 1 of plan when GGG moved to USA---make a name, bang the drums, get a following.
Part 2...make the most money he can (Mayweather, Cotto, Canelo)
How does making peanuts in a Ward fight that gives neither money nor legacy make any sense in any world other than in a hater's mind? Really? Please tell me how a fight at 168 vs Ward for $2M is better for GGG than ANY fight that GGG took at 160? Please?? Did it extend his MW defenses? No. Did it get him a $20M payday? No. What would YOU do????
You mean like Koby vs Steve Nash. Nash was a member of the 40 50 90 club four times in his career. Nobody has ever done that before or since. Even a player as great as Larry Byrd has only done it twice. He has the highest free throw percentage in history. He was a low volume high percentage shooter. So are you saying Nash is a better basketball player overall than Kobe and Byrd.
Exactly right. Some of these clowns think that landing 50% of 50 shots (25 for the math-challenged) should count more than the fighter who lands 30% of 100 (30). Greater number of punches means more aggression and should be rewarded accordingly.
Young Foreman was wild, sloppy, not composed. Old Foreman was calm. Youngster builds up a lead on the cards, but is then erased in the late rounds when he is spent. Old Foreman KO 9
I thought Crawford beat the hell out of Khan and won every round. The low blow was accidental and certainly NOT THROWN IN FRUSTRATION.The punch landed on Khan's leg not his balls. Khan could have easily continued but he quit instead. It is clear from your past posts you don't like Crawford for some unknown reason. All he does is win and dominate and he totally dominated Khan from round one until Khan quit to keep from being KOed.
Plus...Danny was losing every round to Khan until he landed the punch. Good for him, but should be viewed in the same light as Wilder vs Old Man Ducker.
Danny was also dominated by Thurman, and only competitive vs Porter. It's not like Thurman and Porter are world beaters...just good fighters.
GGG. His biggest scalps, Canelo, Jacobs, and Derevyanchenko would beat any MW that Hopkins beat. Joppy? Holmes? Too-small Trinidad? They both had their share of weak offerings (Vanes, Monroe, Squirrel, JDJ) but I believe GGG's top wins (or bogus draw) is better than Hopkins.
??? U comparing an ATG to lil G??? I don't even think ggg gets in the boxing hofame
Hopkins was not an ATG MW..he is merely the co-holder of the record with GGG. Not sure how wins over JDJ (off a loss), multi-loss Squirrel, Bert James, Joppy, Lipsey etc. give him the appearance of an ATG. He beat Glen Johnson before Glen knew how to fight (Glen went on to lose to the great Merqui Sosa and the even greater Joseph Kiwanuka in his next two bouts...)
Could Hops beat G? Maybe. But he is just as likely to lose since after his loss to RJJ he didn't face anyone with the pedigree and power of a Golovkin. GGG did not face a murderer's row either, but his best wins and screwball draw are still much better than any of Hopkins' wins at MW.
You think GGG would beat Hopkins??? Man pass that joint....
https://owned.com/media/_cache/thumb_video/postblock/image/5/1/0/5/5105.jpg.png
Why wouldn't he beat Hopkins? Because Hops beat a list of little guys and nobodies? (similar to most of G's wins).
GGG is not like anyone that Hops fought. And vice versa. I didn't say it would be easy, but if Hops came forward he would be in harm's way. If he tried to move, GGG could cut off the ring. Does Hops struggle with Jacobs, Deravyanchenko and Canelo? Absolutely. Does G struggle with any of Hopkins MW opponents? Probably not.
