Wilder ended the longest world-title drought in American heavyweight history in capturing the WBC from the world #2. champion Bermane Stiverne in 2015 ; 9 years since Shannon Briggs had won the WBO. Deontay Wilder is the greatest puncher EVER, has dropped or KO every opponent he faced. The Ring Magazine Knockout of the Year winner (2019 vs. Luis Ortiz).
Wilder was handed a title against a paper champion in Stiverne, who was lucky he had to face Arreola for it instead of Vitali. Also, if you think Wilder's the greatest puncher ever with that resume, your standards are pretty low. Ring Magazine KO of the year, against a faded Ortiz, who he had already knocked out before.
Deontay Wilder is in great company holding fifth place for most consecutive heavyweight title defenses ; tied the great Muhammad Ali with 10 title defenses. PPV attraction, a star in the Celebrity-Reality television show 'WAGS'.
10 title defenses against mostly tomato cans. Ortiz and Fury are the only good names on his resume so far, and he wound up losing to the latter fighter. Fury is the reason those fights sold like they did. When Wilder rematched Ortiz, the differences in pay and viewership were like night and day, compared to his 1st bout with Fury.
Never failed a PED test, was never banned from boxing. Represented America honorably and the sport faithfully ; despite suffering multiple injuries, our champion fought on and never quit. Yes, the 'Bronze-Bomber' Deontay Wilder has earned his seat at canastota, he never took shortcuts in his whole life ; we cant say the same for many cheaters out there.
Why does Wilder deserve praise for doing what he's supposed to do? He represented America honorably? I didn't know picking cherries most of your career, and dodging $100m to unify is honorable.
kinda hard to keep him out if he regroups and wins some big fights....10 title defenses.....ko of the year honors......bronze medallist with novice experience
he doesnt have a whose who of wins but Ken Norton, Ingemar Johansson, Jack Sharkey and other champions who didnt have the best opponents or wins got in
Ken norton beat muhammad ali, ingemar johansson beat floyd patterson.
Jack Sharkey has some great wins over hall of famers on his resume, so don't understand the comparison there.
I am certain Wilder will be in the hall of fame. With all his KO wins and many title defenses won by KO how could he not be in the hall of fame. The man is famous.

If he gets in, the Hall needs to apologize to Sven Ottke. Wilder has beaten nothing but slow heavies...none who are above average. Areola/Molina/Stiverne/Ortiz/Breazeale....you time these guys with a sundial in the 40 yard dash. Sure, his only losses are 'to the best'....but that is because above average fighters like Povetkin (Povetkin's fault) and Whyte never got their shot at him.

Needs a 50/50 or undecided option for the perennial fence-sitters like me man.:lol1:
I'd say he's got a reasonable shot but is far from a shoo-in.
It's a hall of fame and not a hall of elite boxing skills. For a time - a fairly short time -he probably was the most famous US boxer, and was being described as the hardest puncher in history. And 10 title defenses or whatever ain't to be sniffed at no matter who they were against, and that's the number that'll go in the record books. Was he also the World champion with the highest KO rate in history for a spell too? Not sure, but either way his KO run was exceptional at any level.
I'd say he's got a reasonable shot, maybe 50/50.
