lol Spence is on the list. The amount of baseless hype about Spence is ridiculous. Dude hasn't done shyt yet people talk about him like he is the second coming of Jesus
ruiz win over joshua qualifies only as upset of the year.it has very little historical significance and will quickly be forgotten by many boxing historians a couple of years from now.
pacquiao created history 4 times this year.
1. oldest welterweight champ in history
2. only 4 time welterweight champ in history
3. only 2nd fighter in history to hold world titles 20 years apart (foreman was first)
4. only fighter in history to hold world titles in 4 different decades
5. university graduate
no one comes close this year. that's plain truth.
Not disagreeing with anything you've posted about the accomplishment in beating Thurman. However, Ruiz is lesser than Manny and AJ was greater than Thurman. Ruiz also became the first Mexican HWT champ in history. The Ruiz win also created much more buzz than the Manny win.
Its definitely close but I think a monumental historic win at HWT trumps one at WW.
1. Canelo Alvarez
2. Naoya Inoue
3. Manny Pacquiao
4. Errol Spence
5. Josh Taylor

I wouldn't be mad at any of them, besides taylor maybe. I mean it gets really subjective - just depends on how highly you think of their opponents and performances. Canelo has the strongest case for achievement, clean wins, but this can be very interchangeable. Inoue/Pac for 2nd...
Canelo's victory over Kovalev is equivalent to Roy Jones, Jr win over John Ruiz. Both men were garbage. One was very limited skill wise while the other was well past his prime.
Alvarez gets no special award for that Kovalev fight because he knew Sergey was a low risk, cherry picked, washed up and shot fighter that was going to be an easy win. The coward would have never challenged the pre Andre Ward Sergey Kovalev.
Josh Taylor is actually a refreshing candidate. Would be nice to see him win because brings some freshness too. He’s only fought twice this year though and the latter being only a majority decision
easily pacquiao. his historic win against thurman is better than anything anyone has done this year.
pacquiao became the ONLY 4 time welterweight champion this year at the age of 40. joshua doesnt come close.
Come on dude. Manny beating Thurman was in no way , shape or form a better win than Ruiz KOing AJ.
That doesn't mean it wasn't impressive or historic, it just wasn't the best win of the year.
Easily Joshua
Two time unified hw champion. The only guy to chase legacy and has grabbed it by both hands
So getting beat up and stopped by the number 15 contender then fighting down right scared in the rematch gets you fighter of the year?
Why is Spence on this list? Beating a fat lightweight and a guy who can't win the big one?
Whatever.
I say Canelo. Love him or hate him, beating the respected Jacobs and then going to LHW to beat Kovalev is truly impressive. Danny couldn't hit him and Kovalev couldn't touch him with anything other than a soft jab.
Taylor with wins over Baranchyk and (as an underdog) over Prograis should be 1A.
Inoue had a great year, but had a mighty struggle vs future HOF Donaire.
Roman could be considered as well.
Pac--a good win over Thurman doesn't get him FOY for me, just as Ruiz doesn't get it with his win over AJ.
