Dead in the middle of summer, too, for those of you asking why this didn’t perform exponentially better than Pacquiao-Broner. Viewers are on vacation, have more plans, etc. https://t.co/G6CD1DCThd
but I feel like 'Pacquiao vs. undefeated, prime WW' should fetch 750K buys.
It would've pretty easily 5 or so years ago.
But even though Pacquiao has name pedigree, most people (casuals) I talked to leading up to the fight, their reaction was almost universal in the sense that the first thing they'd mention is his age, and be like "ain't he old as f**k?" or "how old is he now 50??"
I think a lot of potential buyers passed on it for that reason alone.
500K just doesn't feel like enough to me. Then again, Pacquiao hasn't been a PPV attraction for ages. Before the Mayweather PPV, his last fight that broke 1M was Marquez IV, 7 years ago. In fact, in the 7 years since the Marquez KO loss, this is Pacquiao's third highest-selling PPV after Mayweather 4.6M and Bradley II 800K. So I guess that means this is a good number, but I feel like 'Pacquiao vs. undefeated, prime WW' should fetch 750K buys.
Dog pacquiao is past his prime with several losses, not even a 35 year old mike tyson after the lennox fight was doing these numbers. I think tysons last few ppvs were 100k each or something really low.
Also floyds fight with andre berto did anywhere from 400 to 600 k buys thats a huge drop from 4 million buys, the weigh in was empty compared to other weigh ins and the mgm had a lot of empty seats for that fight and he never lost just beat pacman the biggest fight of his career if you are coming off your biggest win and the cash cow in what you say is your last fight you should do at least two million buys dont you think?
Id say these are great numbers for pacman if you look at it.
Solid numbers. That's probably about as good as it gets.
Maybe a Spence vs. Pacquiao fight, if it ever happens, in March could generate 700K. But this is the reality of the PPV market.
Pacman vs the winner of spence porter will do a million plus buys. Fox is really stepping up. So far they have done really well with thier first two ppv shows, 450 with spence and 500 with pac thurman.
Fox really investing in boxing unlike espn they never gave a **** about boxing when they had Friday night fights. Never promoted any of the shows on their sports shows.

Idiotic statement from Coppinger. Prior to the switch to Mexican holidays, the highest ppv numbers were always in the summer as they did not have to compete with college football.
Tyson Holyfield 2 1.99M buys 6/28
Tyson-Lewis 1.9M 6/8
Tyson McNeely 1.55M 8/19
Floyd-McGregor- August
500K is an excellent buy rate for a Manny bout with a non-hispanic/floyd dance partner. 400k vs Bradley, 400k vs Broner
Wait for Pacman to leave.
Once he leaves someone else will emerge. I mean they may tweak the way they do PPVs like the UFC did, but PPVs aren't going anywhere any time soon.
Rick Glaser has spoken lol
says the "real" PPV number is 458,000 PPV buys
That's in line with Mike Coppinger reporting.
Coopinger quick with the response to Rick Glaser lol
Glaser says I have the correct PPV number, I can now rest easy https://t.co/tV6WeiR7UT pic.twitter.com/JQfb3iiHFO— Mike Coppinger (@MikeCoppinger) July 26, 2019
More importantly than just the PPV number was that FOX negotiated a different deal than the usual 50/50 split. Wonder what kind of split they ended up getting as not every cable company got to promote the fight.
