i'm actually not all that impressed with floyd's training. there's no doubt it's effective, but he does the same things over and over and over......and then does them some more later in the day. he doesn't absolutely nothing to challenge his normal movements or improve power and explosiveness. which is why he has none. i get what his game plan is and has always been - he's going to rely on accuracy and quickness and let whatever power he has in his punches add up over the course of several rounds. there's no shame in that and it's obviously worked well for him. but i'm still of the opinion that maximal training involves much more strenuous physical explosion than the trademark mayweather "pattycake" routine.
Not sold on Rios yet. He gets hit a whole lot considering who he has been in against. Trash talking and getting tagged doesnt make you the next star.
exactly. when i was re-watching the antillon fight i couldn't help but think about how much damage manny would do to this kid. he's tailor-made for manny's style.....would be hatton pt. 2.
that said, i'd love to see it and would pay good money for it.
i'm not convinced floyd is quite the beast in the gym he's made us believe he is over the years. he's always in there, granted, but it's all doing the same familiar routines and movements and dictating the pace himself. and drinking mountain dew. i mean we all saw him chopping wood like a woman the other day. his jumproping skills are impressive, though, if not a little monotonous much like his entire regimen.
As details start leaking out, it appears that training camp did not go well for Pac. Sparring partner Kenneth Sims has been rumored to have knocked Pac Man three times in sparring.
maybe we should be paying to see him fight instead. that's as many knockdowns as floyd has had in the last decade.
AB is just a very average fighter, and unfortunately for his fans there's zero evidence to prove otherwise. That's not to say he doesn't have some ability, but he's an easy problem to solve and there's a long list of guys at 140/47 who should be able to do fairly easily. I know the al haymon marketing machine is a fun ride sometimes but it doesn't make for quality boxers.
rios is the more exciting fighter at the moment because he fights with reckless abandon and doesn't mind getting hit, but santa cruz is by far the more refined, complete fighter. i'm very high on him and think he'll have a top-notch career if he keeps doing what he's doing - could be another mexican legend in the making.
he's also programmed to repeat the phrase "nobody works harder than me" like a mantra because, you know, that's what floyd mayweather does. i'm not saying he doesn't work hard, but i do question whether he knows what it means to do a real, start-to-finish championship caliber training camp. can't judge much from videos of sparring sessions, but the few of his i've seen looked like a complete joke.
bradley has the heart of a champion and will most likely at least be able to go the distance with manny. i could see a situation where he loses the fight on paper but gains a lot of respect/opportunity for a good showing. in all honestly he should probably go back down to 140 after this fight and clean out the division...he's the best guy at that weight right now. and who wouldn't want to see him to go war against rios or khan...
undersized, underskilled and no power isn't gonna work against top competition. we already saw that once and will get the same result every time out. bradley should be fighting guys like khan, ortiz, maidana, rios, etc..
i still think kelly can compete if he takes care of his body and trains with the dedication he was known for early in his career. he's got good technique and legitimate power. jaco clearly wasn't in his class but i'm looking forward to see what he can do against real competition. hopefully his move to california has him back on track and in top form.
in fairness, there are plenty of perfectly legal pre-workout supplements that take your strength and stamina to a whole other stratosphere. i have tried one in particular - 1MR - that always resulted in monster 2+ hour training sessions that surprised even me. however the crash is pretty brutal, the sleep is horrible, and performing at that level always left me a bit banged up for a few days so i can't imagine taking something like this would be the best thing for a full-on training camp when recovery is so key. can't take that stuff all the time - once, MAYBE twice a week is about all the body can handle.
not buying for a second the talk of cotto being drained for the pacquiao fight. he was in tip-top shape, absolutely sharp and probably in the best form he's ever been in as a fighter - just got run through by an all-time great with the power to make him go backwards.
this is a guy who said he would rather watch bisping/mayhem - a fight in which one of the guys was embarrassingly out of shape and had absolutely no business being in there - than cotto/margarito II. this is why nobody should pay attention to what UFC fighters and fans have to say about boxing. they prefer watching flash-in-the-pan hypejobs with no technical skill whatsoever to the sweet science.
and don't try to sell me on the technical side of MMA - a lot of the guys they throw out there have only been training for a few years and can't even take a body shot. garbage.
i respect everything about andre ward, but my goodness is he feather-fisted...
should be a good fight - i think dawson's length is really being underrated going into this.
You cannot deny, that he's the best body puncher in boxing right now.
There's absolutely no one, that works the body like him and has his liver shot, almost 50 percent or more of his punches go to the body, just look at the Zbik fight, and I have been a fan of him since his first Pro fights,
guillermo rigondeaux. just saying.
scully is very underrated as a trainer and i'm hoping he can continue to make a name for himself with up and coming fighters - no reason he couldn't have a long and successful career as a cornerman. would be interesting to see what he can do with a fighter who is a little more willing to rise to the occasion..
Tall sparring partners
Slow Sparring Partners
Low Output from Sparring partners
No bouncing from sparring partners
No angles from sparring partners
His sparring is terrible.. other than being southpaw they have NO similarities to pacman what so ever.. awesome preperation
my thoughts exactly. on top of that this just doesn't look like the same marquez at this weight.
i put gamboa ahead of him on the P4P list without a doubt. he's a nice boxer, big puncher, but has made his name in a weight class where he clearly doesn't belong. i don't think we'll be able to evaluate him fairly until he's at least fighting true 122 pounders, and maybe even 126. if he looks as dominant beating guys his size or bigger then we'll know he's the real thing.
