Boxing is coming back. It will be bigger than ever in 5-10 years.
mma will always have a following in the closet gay community but its ppv's are way down and with that WWE guy gone it will be back to a niche sport.
mma was basically poker. Boring crap that had a run and now is back to noone cares status.
Boxing wont be "dead", but it will surely be without a superstar that the casual fans can associate with. The closest we will have will be Cotto who's on the downside of his career and 2 fighters from Mexico. Canelo and JCC Jr. Neither one of them come close to Pac or Floyd's status in the sport.
Yea, that's why UFCs biggest draw, Brock lesnar, was making Joel Casamayor money (400k).
including ppv cut, sponsors and endorsements Lesnar made a lot more than that.
Vera's career should have been over a few fights ago. Biggest MMA bust in recent memory and the only reason he is still in the ufc is because his opponent got caught roiding.
Brandon Vera is a complete moron, and I think I'm a bit charitable in that assessment y'all. The "UFC" is dominated by a few and peopled with individuals that receive the smallest share of the prize imaginable. Outside of a few top stars these guys are working for peanuts. I mention this to illustrate a point about his mouth being a separate entity from his brain.
Boxing has been around over a hundred years, and in other forms longer, but this guy is part of the carnival of human cockfighting. I don't watch the UFC at all, imho the way to the top is too easy and different standards apply. The UFC is a sport undergoing an evolution while boxing has had time to mature and be tested over a much longer period of time. For Vera to speak the words that he did is arrogant and disrespectful.
As to Mayweather and Pacquiao embodying the sport to the extent that boxing will be dead without them, I hope not. You got one guy ready to do a little time for domestic violence and another to thin as a man to direct the course of his life and career. If they embodied the sport then boxing is dead already and we're too dumb to see it.
Brandon Veras career has been over ever since he got his skull cracked open maybe some brain matter leaked out.
Boxing is a Gentlemens sport, Andre Ward has given any boxing fan more amusement then either Floyd or Manny this last year so I think were doin alright.
this is a guy who said he would rather watch bisping/mayhem - a fight in which one of the guys was embarrassingly out of shape and had absolutely no business being in there - than cotto/margarito II. this is why nobody should pay attention to what UFC fighters and fans have to say about boxing. they prefer watching flash-in-the-pan hypejobs with no technical skill whatsoever to the sweet science.
and don't try to sell me on the technical side of MMA - a lot of the guys they throw out there have only been training for a few years and can't even take a body shot. garbage.
I agree but if they both were to retire tomorrow, boxing would be in quite a slump as far as it being a mainstream sport. You can forget about anyone putting up close to 1mil buys.
Think about this, UFC is doing something right for Fox to give them a long term contract. I dont see boxing signing any deals with any tv networks anytime soon in its current state.
We're all diehard fans but some of you need to take off the blinders and admit that our sport is in bad shape!
Maybe I don't believe it because I've heard it before.
But it's never been a reality. Ali retired,Leonard,Tyson,Duran,Delahoya...and boxing still lives. I also don't believe Mayweather or Manny will retire anytime soon .Too much money to be made.
It takes time. Mayweather and Manny were not instant stars either.Boxing is not going anywhere.

Agreed. Boxings death has been rumored for decades, but its still going strong.
What the fack is this ugly wanker on about? One sure gets tired of this constant verbal buggery between the two sports.
Stop talking bollocks and just grow up for fack's sake!
