The Botha fight. He should've been able to KO him within 2 rounds, instead he gets embarrassed for nearly half the fight before landing probably the deadliest straight right hand I've ever seen.
Comparing an athlete to a man responsible for mass genocide is a slap in the face to anyone who was effected by the second world war. Bob Arum is an idiot.
I believe Sergio Martinez didn't even take up boxing until he was 21/22.
Bernard Hopkins started late.
Antonio Tarver was 22 when he first stepped into a boxing gym & didn't go pro until he was 28
Rocky Marciano was 27 when he debuted.
That guy that fought Pavlik not long ago was 20 odd & self trained.
As was another guy I seen on an undercard recently.
Didn't Marciano retire at 32, and hold the title for 4 years? That math doesn't add up.
Even though he won the trilogy, Riddick Bowe was never the same fighter after he shared the ring with Evander Holyfield. He was basically shot after those fights, at the ripe old age of what...28?
I don't think physical traits make a fighter unconventional, it's their style of fighting that does. Carlos Molina is extremely awkward which is why he has so much success. He gets my vote.
There are tons of American prospects who are on the rise, some of which are bound to become champions. But who really gives a sh*t? Boxing is about enjoying the craft, regardless of a persons country of origin.
And Kevin Mitchell is British.:usa2:
I agree with this. The only advantage Ward had in that fight would be the reduced jet lag he dealt with in comparison to Froch. I'm a fan of the Cobra but I think he keeps mentioning a fight with Ward in England because he knows if he can make it competitive, he'll get the nod. Andre Ward has nothing to prove by travelling outside of the states. He beats everyone put in front of him and in pretty dominant fashion.
Fantasy fights are moot. The point is Andre Ward, tonight, became without question(imo) the greastest smw of all time. He has accomplished more than any other fighter at this weight.
1. Ward
2 Froch
3. Calzaghe
Ward being undefeated and having dominated most of his wins (including one over Froch himself) puts him at No.1 in my opinion.
Im not even a Pac fan. He's just not annoying as Floyd is.
Floyds Marketing Genius:
Floyd burns $100 bills? "Floyd Fans: GREAT MARKETING GENIUS!!"
Floyd in strip clubs and nightclubs balling every night "OH FLOYD DONT DRINk,HE JUST IN NIGH CLUBS AND STRIP CLUBS MARKETING AND PROMOTING HIMSELF"
Floyd hitting his wife "Oh, any publicity good publicity, Floyd getting his name out there, now people will wanna pay even more to see him fight"
Pats losing Superbowl : "Oh its cuz of Floyd man, his great marketing genius"
Gamboa doesnt show up to pre-fight presser against Rios "Oh, Mayweather all behind it, great marketing genius"
LOL...that's pretty good.
He falls just a little short in my opinion. Should have kept disciplined, who knows what else he could have accomplished. Then again he's only the 2nd MW to move up and capture HW gold in the last century so it's debatable.
Well he can "Win a world title" by defeating Nathan Cleverly and collecting his WBO belt, and I'd definitely favor Hopkins in that fight because, ya know, Cleverly is awful and all.
There it is!
Thanks.
^^^ I saw him fight Lopez a couple years back and watched is most recent win. He is pretty mediocre. Just couldn't match the face with the name last night.
At around the time he fought Ortiz, I thought Maidana was one scary dude. It's not always the guys who can hit who intimidate, it's the guys who get badly hurt, and decide they're gonna keep coming after you win or lose, live or die.
Anyone with eyes can see the immense talent possessed by Adrien Broner. I'm not sure if he'd beat Matthysse but it wouldn't at all surprise me if he did. It's just a pity he's in such a desolate division right now. Oh, and yes I do think of Broner as a class A knucklehead.
