Saw a thread on here recently asking if 'Vitali was an ATG' so i wanna know if you feel Toney is an ATG.
Hes a 4 weight world champ and used to be considered one of the best P4P
Hes always been one of my favorites to watch the way in the ring style he fought in was so calm and relaxed at times it didn't even look like he was trying. His trash talking and post fight interviews have been some of the funniest ive witnessed in all my years of watching boxing.
In my opinion Toney should go down as one of the best middleweights of all time and his achivemments beyond that winning the supper middleweight, crusierweight and heavyweight belts just add to his legacy
HOFer? yes. ATG? no not to me. Does he have ATG skills? yes of course. He would be a match up against any ATG middleweight to cruiser
He has done just as much in boxing then Bernard has. Who on Hopkins resume is a better win then MCcallum, Nunn, Jirov? Most of James big wins he was the underdog.
Please tell me what Bernard has done that puts him so ahead of James?
No way he is an ATG, but he could and should have been. There are many fighters who will go down as greats who never had his talent, but made the maximum of what they had unlike Toney who never got close to what he should have been.
His "got close to what he should have been" is still 80% better than the majority of the current champions.
What he is now can never erase what he has done in the past.
Only newcomers or ignorant boxing fans think that.

He resume and accomplishments suggest he is. Failing drug tests and periods of lack of motivation during he career hurt tho. I think he accomplished more than any reigning champion today, but some are close and are not through yet.
I've been watching his fights and I feel as if Toney had some health issue. I mean if he really does just spar and go to the gym.. he just can't lose weight? Does he have an eating problem?
He gained lotta weight you can tell on his face from just the Jones to Griffin fight, I know he fought at 175, but he just looks chubby and awkward. Pre-fight interview Toney states "I'm goin back to my old ways." Real arrogant. ha
I believe he had a thyroid problem

Fought McCallum three times.
And I strongly agree with the second statement. :boxing:
I know they fought 3 times but he won twice, U was just showing his wins, JT is really underrated with these casuals
Mccallum twice,
Also might have p4p the best chin of all time, I don’t know many other fighters that went from middle to heavy without being stopped.

How is this is a question? This site shows me you guys really just follow hype and don’t know boxing. James Toney’s resume is on par with Roy Jones and B-Hop. Mccallum twice, Nunn, Holyfield, Jirov, Barkley, 3 division champ and a 4 division champ at one point in his life.

He was robbed in the Griffin fights twice
Never ducked anyone
Who has bernard Hopkins beat that makes his resume better then Toneys? Bernard has the longevity achievement but thats about it.
If you don’t believe he’s all time great then I think you guys need to go back and watch the guy
james toney had top-tier ATG talent... but ultimately didnt live up to full potential... HOF-er no doubt... barely ATG based off of career.
one of my personal favorites
