you can land 1000 punches i can land one and knock you out... the emphasis is on clean effective punching the numbers dont really matter, if you land 100 out of 1000 and i land 150 of 400 the more effective punches (the ones that hurt) win the round. anything else is a toss up.
**Hatton is fighting a tough 25 yr old Columbian who is undefeated with a 72% KO ratio.
Floyd is fighting a 35 yr old journeyman who has 9 losses and a 12% KO ratio.
urango got a gift in his last fight, he is flat footed and not a very good fighter. Hatton cant prove anything by beating him. in fact it will be so sad to see him land a lucky shot that takes ot hatton cause he isnt really good.
i totally agree with you on that. How can you say he packed on weight when he came into the fight havier than he was on weigh in day. look at PBF, he comes in at the same weight as he is on weigh in day somtimes even less.
Hey, I like Ricky and all, but why do people say that he needed to 'pack on' weight when he moved up to Welterweight? I couldve sworn he cut weight to begin with.
But I have no problem with saying that going up to a new weight class changes a fighter a lot, especially when theyve been fighting their whole life at a lower/different one. That makes perfect sense.
I think Hatton has the best chance against Floyd in the Welterweight division, Hatton would have to smother him like no one before, but Floyd made it through Castillo so you cant really say its nothing new completely new to him...Id like to see this fight happen regardless.
How much does Hatton usually weigh naturally? You cant 'pack on' weight if you have to cut to get there...
i totally agree with you on that. How can you say he packed on weight when he came into the fight havier than he was on weigh in day. look at PBF, he comes in at the same weight as he is on weigh in day somtimes even less.
i belive PBF will out point him easily, may stop him on cuts. I belive castilo will stop him cause hattons defence crashes after 6 rounds and thats when castillo is just pumping up. On the other hand I have seen castilo in a rough in house fight at 135 with Corralles and he got stopped Hatton can do that to him easily cause of his size. So i take back the Castilo stoping hatton. I think it will be a toss up.
im inclined to say Roy Power simply comes from his opponents not seeing the punch. So i guess Roys timming is the key he knew when to throw. He knew when one would do and he knew when it would take 4. If you dont see a punch coming it doesnt have to be from ernie shavers to put you to sleep. I mean the behind the back punch that took out Glenn Kelly was not hard at all ( well i wasnt the one who received it but it didnt look hard ) while the ones he bombed Richrad Hall ( he would actually wind up like a pitcher and land flush ) the put him to sleep. But Hall did go down on seemingly light punches during the fight(better timmed in my opinion)
if at some point in the fight he had hurt simms or put simms in danger or some thing then i would call it a premature....... well not premature but ........ man i dont know he was getting his ass handed to him at it wasnt getting better. The ref has to make sure its a fight not a beatting. Well he was the champ though.... maybe he should have giving him a chance.... or waited for another knock down......... na stop it his defence was gone.
ok finally we can all put the hatton pbf saga to rest. i see pbf killing hatton, i see someting far worse than what pbf did to gatti, and as for hatton fighting delahoya.... please. he is aggressive but his defence is sorry. how many left hooks can he eat from delahoya before he throws up? a fight with pbf will be stopped, by the ref, by his dad, by his corner, by pbf ..... you name it the fight will be stopped!
boxing will be just fine. we go thruogh this dry spell every now and then. UFC is fun to watch, but you must remember it is a very differnt sport boxing. comparing them is not very fair. and i'll list a few reasons.
1. boxers have way more stamina (12 3min rounds) and the best of them still throw and bounce around in the twelfth
2. ufc guys have poor ring generalship (from waht i have seen so far from the best out there.)
3. the best ufc fighters are usually the better strikers, once you avoid a take down and counter submissions(not easy of course but chuck liddel does it all the time with minimal ring movement)
4. (i think this is the ufc fighters archilles heel) They have very very poor defencesive skills.
now a fight is a fight dont get me wrong. a clean bare nuckle punch will lay almost anyone out, but i just cant see a ufc fighter in the later rounds against a boxer.
well there is more than one way to get knocked out, it seems alot of you assume it has to be done by one punch. hatton almost got knocked out/down in his last fight by a soft puncher. I ts the accumulation of punches that mayweather will land that will (if there is to be a knock out)do the job. unless you dont belive he will land them in bunches?
i dont how you guys see it but tarver looked just the way he always looked fighting, defending or attacking, and that just wouldnt fly with a seasoned boxer like BHop, just look at all his fights throw a puch at him and he just turtle shells, time him on his way out of the shell and he wont throw a damn thing all night.
let me get this right, some people here think pbf belives he can beat zab judah but doent think he can beat hatton? really guys come on. Why should pbf go to england to fight hatton for less money, its just like hatton coming to us to fight pbf for less money. they have to come to some compromise. but if hattons people say we are not ready, chances are this mean pbf will stop hatton.
once again i agree with you but with one reservation, pbf is harder to hit, and thats is a lot more mentally taxing especially when you are getting hit, hatton was able to hang in there against KZ because he was also landing shots. KZ landed but not succesively, at the very least you will agree that pbf will land more combinations than KZ did on Hatton, if he can ride throught that then I will concede even if he looses.
very good point i dint think of it that way, market value that is. But as for hatton and castillo, dude castillo has skill i mean real skill, defence, head movement and all, did you see how hatton kept walking into lefts against KZ, dont look at the battle JC had with DC that was just bad judgement on his part as you saw in the second fight he moves very well, not just smothering his opponent or rough housing him. he has the ability to adapt to the situation thats why he gave pbf a tough time in their fights. Hatton.... good fighter yes.. but in oder not to get stopped he needs a better defence, pbf will not be looking to stop him with one shot, Hatton got hit too many times (though not clean hits)by a slower and older KZ (one 3 round fight in 22 months or so) so pbf will land all night and Hattons corner will eventually step in. We all seem to forget the buzz about him fighting corrales, tha buzz about him fighting castillo, he wasnt expected to win. Now Zab on the other hand has speed and power on his side but i still see his poor defence and lack of focus in the ring will hurt him against pbf.
holyfield vs wlad will happen like this:
holyfield rushes him like brewster did golota for like 3 to 4 rounds, wlads size lets him down cause of the high pace, then he gets chopped down badly for 3 rounds then Vitali jumps in and stops the fight, and chalenges holyfield then hurts a body part some weeks b4 the fight.
ufc fighters are some what chinless and not as conditioned as boxer, if the fight isnt over in 3mins the ufc fighter is dead, i mean it literally too imagine a tyson or some other quick power puncher cracking your scull with those tiny gloves, convulsing on the ground will be the least of your worries.
you all saw what roy did to james toney right? would you have thought that would have happened to toney? We've see G-Mac at his best, we've seen Roy at his best, who would you out you last dime on? Mine goes on roy UD.
why would he take a dive? Winning would be more profitable to oscar. The most i would agree to is that he would have found a way to get up if he thought he could win the fight. He probably just said "forget it!" but i think he did get caught with a legit body shot, it was more to the back area than the ribs, try tapping your self there and see how it feels. then imagine Benard catching you there witha nice "jump in" left hook.
if you really want to know how hard the shot was, look at benards legs and hip area as he throws the shot, they move in the direction of the punch first, this adds a trmendous amount of power behind the shot. Im sure you've all heard of punching from the legs, well thats a good example right there.
let me clearify me point. im not saying chopchop is better than cotto, im saying the fight showed me something about cotto i didnt like, chop chop 144 on fight night agaisnt pbf 145 (1 pound difference) cotto had almost 20 pounds on chopchop, if pbf had 20 pounds on chopchop it woud have ended really early for him. cotto is good but i belive now that he is not as good as i thought he was.
yes cotto won, but i saw who cotto was after the fight, a middle weight who come down to pick on jnr welters, he weighed 157 against chopchops 140 and chop chop stuned him badly, i mean if they where only 5 pounds apart chopchop would have stopped him dead.
Look spinks didnt do anything different from the last fight. But ZAB did, he came out faster, stronger and more confident. Thats why he won. I find it hard to belive the undisputed welter weight champion didnt train well for an opponent who nearly beat him the last time they met. Besides do you really belive doing interviews would derail your entire training schedule? Guys come on zab was better (at least tonight he was) periord.
k-dogg just owned your asss with a good post dont ignore it
look its really simple, consider this, the fastest man in the world (100 meter dash record holder ) is not necesarily the world champion, and the world champion is not necesarily the fastest man in the world. To be the best you dont have to be the champion, and to be the champion you dont have to be the best. If you beat the champion in a championship fight then you are the champion.
tyson never had to come back in a fight, he always seemed to run through his opponents, that made him a good fighter but not a great fighter. if he had kept this up for 4 or 5 more years i could have called him great or dominant. I would have like d to see him in a fight were he wasnt expected to win. Like if he had made it out of the Douglas fight,(even with the knock down) win or loose that fight i would have giving him more credit than his normal run thru victims. he seemed to loose by KO when ever he got into a fight.
