from these guys from UFC. This guy said boxing is in trouble because UFC is here to take over. Yea....ok.
PS: Shows on ESPN, 'Quite Frankly' as we speak.
Honestly I watched The Ultimate Fighter 3 last Thur rather than Mora on ESPN.......But that was just because. :D
Because Mora is talentless POS that has to get robberies to get victories? Fuck him, he sucks, and if he EVER steps up the competition he's gonna get fucking KO'ed.
I still find it funny that so many of you got upset over a promoter hyping his event... as if Dana White (the bald guy) is only half the douchebag Don King is when it comes to this. Besides, it is not about mma replacing boxing as much as being on a similar level, wich, in terms of ppv numbers, it is doing pretty damn good for a young sport.
IMO PPV has ruined boxing and damaged it a lot, people just see the promos and say "I wish I could watch, its on PPV oh well" they're used to missing boxing matches now, it fuking sucks but noway will UFC do as much harm to boxing as they say.. I never liked UFC i only watch boxing and soccer, but boxing is my fav..
I know. If people at least recognized the names then they might think about PPVing it. Everybody at my school was talking about De La Hoya-Mayorga, but nobody gives a crap about Hopkins-Taylor.
Never really watched UFC ever. I just watch boxing, baseball, football, and basketball.
Good man. those are the only good sports of today. Football and boxing are tied for my favorite sports. Die hard fan of both.
boxing will be just fine. we go thruogh this dry spell every now and then. UFC is fun to watch, but you must remember it is a very differnt sport boxing. comparing them is not very fair. and i'll list a few reasons.
1. boxers have way more stamina (12 3min rounds) and the best of them still throw and bounce around in the twelfth
2. ufc guys have poor ring generalship (from waht i have seen so far from the best out there.)
3. the best ufc fighters are usually the better strikers, once you avoid a take down and counter submissions(not easy of course but chuck liddel does it all the time with minimal ring movement)
4. (i think this is the ufc fighters archilles heel) They have very very poor defencesive skills.
now a fight is a fight dont get me wrong. a clean bare nuckle punch will lay almost anyone out, but i just cant see a ufc fighter in the later rounds against a boxer.

he is telling the truth...boxing needs more contenders...all the big name are gon or they are about to retire...
well then u never were a boxing fan from the beggining. U just liked the idea of fighting and boxing was the only sport that could give it to u. Go to a UFC forumn if u dont like boxing. Why are u here if u dont like boxing. Wierd...
Johnny swift,I agree there have been some terrible decisions but you really felt that Hopkins/Taylor bout made you hate boxing? I thought that the bouts were extremely close and didn't think that Bernard did enough to say it was a robbery. Isn't that when 1 fighter clearly won the fight, Bhop lost the first half of the fight before he did much. Basicly IMO it was close and either could of won but I don't think anybody could say robbery. And doesn't potential fights like PBF/Hatton keep you in love with it? Or classics like the Corrales/Castillo fight? I know there is B.S. don't get me wrong but these other events that I mentioned will always keep me intrigued by boxing.
Man I'm sick of hearing that as well the UFC and similar events don't have the history and the icons to ever overtake boxing in the near future. The olympics and several other things contribute to boxing being a step above, and the only reason it gets some shine is because the negatives that are in boxing turns some people away. I don't think it'll ever surpass boxing.
If it's the number of offensive tools permitted in a sport that can make it bigger than others, then Muay Thai, where you are allowed to use elbows knees and feet along with fists, would have long ago eclipsed boxing. Alongside it would have been Tai Kwon Do, Karate, Jit Kun Do, etc.MMA, I view as an amalgam of various bare-handed disciplines, including boxing. As a combination of many (I still won't say, "all") "martial' sports, it allows combatants to use more offensive weapons than are available to a boxer, thus, prompting enthusiasts to expect it to drive western-style fights out of the limelight. I however have doubts. Sports hybrids are notoriously less able to evolve and subsequently fail to capture the mainstream fancy. The main sports today in spite of some similarities with other sports, remain definable ones: basketball, soccer, American Football, wresling, baseball, golf, volleyball, and yes, boxing. On the oval, the most exciting event is still the 100-m sprint, not the decathlon, pentathlon, etc. In Hawaii, there was (I suppose, there still is) an event called, "The Iron Man", where contestants vie to get scores in various events such as swimming, biking, running, climbing, etc. The contestant who gets the highest comulative score wins. It was on free TV for a while and had an average following. I don't see it now.
Also, back then, there were predictions that mini-golf would eclipse golf, what with the low demands on the pocket of patrons and the small real estate required by the game. Mini-links quickly sprung up all over the American landscape. After a decade or so, it went the way of drive-in movies.
i think that to be really into MMA you have to understand a little more about martial arts and grappling/submission than tha average fight fan.
in tha uk it hasn't really taken off...there was an event in manchester a few months ago which was well hyped up cos mike tyson was a guest ref, but everyone i know who went thought it was really boring with a few leaving early...probably to watch the fights in manchester city centre instead.
personally, i used to be well into muaythai of which there are some elements used in MMA, but i still find most of the ufc fights i've seen boring as hell...
If I knew where the remote was on that night, I would've done the same, but thats only because I cant stand Mora. Boxing is in danger because the youths in America want to be basketball and football players, and have little interest in wanting to be boxers. Its a high risk-low reward sport for the most part even though its the most exciting sport. Isn't UFC on PPV only? Exactly.
UFC is on cable as well as PPV
Fights are also stopped to soon because of "Safety"
What makes boxing great is that people love to see a fight where somebody can be bloodied, have the shit kicked out of him for most of the fight, get knocked down, and come back to win;
Ex: Gatti
I also like to see fights where guys are up on their feet slugging it out, not on the floor acting out a scene from Brokeback Mountain.
All that said, I still respect any man that walks into the ring ready to fight
Do you think it has anything to do with all these bullshit score card discrepancies, hometown favorite wins, no decision rigged judges? At least in MMA and UFC you know who the winner is. Can you say that about the sweet science? How many fight have you seen go the distance and have the judges be so lopsided in boxing that they fighter you saw win actually looses the decision. Boxing commissions are crap! No legitamacy or accountability. I actually like both, but I see how MMA could ride this wave of rigged judges to their benefit.
boxing is here to stay imo. if i wanna see two almost naked guys on the floor hugging each other, i'll watch ufc. if i wanna see a fight i'll watch boxing
LOL, I used to beef with this wrestler in high school. After we got into a fight, they took us to the principal's office to explain what happened. I told the principal that I fought him because wrestling was just an excuse to touch other men. He got pissed as hell. The principal told me to apologize and I said I was sorry, because if he wanted to be gay thats his decision.
